How to make this kid friendly?

If you're worried about how violence in a video game might affect your kid, maybe don't let your kid play Grand Theft Auto. This is some stupid sh*t.

I played the first GTA when it came out at 8 years old because my parents knew I was not the type of person to be influenced by what I saw in video games and movies.

I can't stress enough how stupid it is to let your child play Grand Theft Auto if you don't want your child exposed to the central themes of Grand Theft Auto. It would be like saying you want to show them pr0nography, but want to censor the genitals. It's a shame you have already passed on your genetic code.

If you're worried about your kid just not having fun because they're getting rekt, start a private server and teach them how to play. They learn fast, and can be some of the deadliest players in online games.

You aren't wrong. The gist of this thread should be not how to make GTA age appropriate for kids, it's how to make kids age appropriate for GTA without being a terrible parent.

It's all to be taken into context and must weigh up own kids mental understanding versus how they would react to seeing something that upset them and what kind of relationship you have with them etc.  Even the kind of area you live in has some bearing on it.

My daughter is 8 and been in the background when me and son, 13 have played for some years. She says the NPCs are rude, Lester the strange guy and often tells us what naughty words she's heard that she's not allowed to repeat to others. She's quite happy to take a deluxo and fly round the map exploring or a quad bike up mount chiliad but knows she's doesn't want to play in a public session yet. She plays solo session or takes chop to play ball in random places in story mode by choice. She's also scared of the scramjet (?!) and told us it gave her nightmares once so she won't use that car ever again... I didn't elaborate why cos I don't have any concerns with that attitude. She will wave and say hello to real life police officers while calling the in game ones crazy because they can crash into you then shoot you... Passive mode not needed, she will shoot NPCs who attack while praising the ones who drive correctly. For a 8 year old that's pretty decent and normal behaviour in my book.

My son came to me years ago after doing humane labs heist and ending up in the strip club. We had a little laugh and a chat about it cos he came to me with a pink face. Just very recently a friend his same age at school told him about some hooker duplicate glitch... He swore all the time he's played he never even knew that existed, and I knew he was telling the truth because in the background I'd always kept a little eye on his stats of private dances/sex acts purchased.

Each to their own but we have a damn good laugh as a family playing this game and have also met some other decent families through it. I've got adults on my friend list who will take my son on a heist if I'm busy and their kids take me on others. Its all very civilised and the younger ones go play minecraft together on the other console sometimes while we are busy playing criminals. It's not all doom and gloom and it can be some good life skills for kids. But as a parent you gotta judge whether it will help or hinder the family. In some cases I think some kids are shoved on gta because the family is already well hindered/genetically damaged!

When I was starting out I spent a lot of time in the Gerald Mission: Pier Pressure. It allows you to do whatever and go wherever and the bonus is the cops leave will completely leave you alone. Up your levels for strength, stealth, stamina and holding your breath underwater without fear of attack, just stay away from the pier unless you want trouble. Oh, and about the Vanilla Unicorn...
