SanFierroTriad
At the risk of creating a thread that already exists, I'd like to talk about everyone's favorite missions in GTA4. What was the most exciting/interesting/fun mission or missions for you to do? Are there any that you look forward to in your playthroughs? Do any of the missions feel unique to the GTA series? If this thread exists, just let me know. I searched for it but couldn't find anything.
El Penguin Bobo
I liked most of the missions in IV, but if I had to choose, I'd probably pick Master And The Molotov or Dish Served Cold. iiCriminnaaL, Algonquin Assassin and SanFierroTriad
Algonquin Assassin
I love all of GTA IV's missions even the relatively simple "tutorial" type missions as I believe they all do their part in the world/character building, but for three of my absolute favourites.... 1) Museum Piece. I love this mission for the fact it ties Niko's, Johnny's and Luis' stories together and I just love the Mexican standoff moments before Issac and his crew make off with the diamonds and Johnny with the money. It feels like something straight out of Pulp Fiction. F*cking love this. 2) Three Leaf Clover: Just a straight to the point, no bullsh*t type of bank heist and IMO the best tin the series. The shootout through Chinatown is still intense even after all these years. 3) Truck Hustle. I love this mission because the entire sequence when Niko jacks the truck feels more action induced than other mission where we have to steal a car, truck etc without being too silly and over the top. santosvagos
1.Three leaf clover . I always expect some actions when it comes to heist missions and Rockstar finally did it but too bad for Michael , he didn't make it . 2. Late check out . What is cooler than to storm in the luxury hotel with the nicest suit and the glock in your hand to kill all the mafia and still get way from the police . 3. Liquidize the assets : Since i hate the Russia during the game so i enjoy this mission most and the idea working for Gambetti family , which is based on the Gambino just make me feel excited . Jeansowaty
A Long Way To Fall, mostly for being a huge shootout going throughout an entire apartment block. Smackdown is also one of my favorites due to how basic it seems and how you have a shootout in an abandoned house I love the interiors in GTA IV. I like to do this mission with a shotgun. It feels badarse slowly walking up each level picking them off one by one and then shooting Teddy in the face and watching him fall to his death. Yes this is one of my favorite missions in the game. I like that it is a follow up to the infamous diamond deal, and shows the aftermath of the events. Neither Isaac nor Ray have the money or diamonds, and are threatening to have each other killed. The cruelty of this mission at the hands of a bunch of seedy gangsters is also why I love this mission. Isaac pays 2 million for some diamonds, immediately has them stolen, and is murdered in his penthouse shortly after. I don't know how often these things happen, but Isaac was killed for something that legitimately wasn't his fault, and that just stands out to me. santosvagos, Stevenslender123, iiCriminnaaL and 1 other

Just a tip in case anyone isn't aware, but you don't even have to do this mission by going in the front foyer and up the elevator. There's a window platform around the back of the hotel and you can go up to the roof and work your way down. For some reason I kept getting killed when I went up to the glass house part of the apartment by doing it the default way, but I remembered this trick and it's far easier IMO. iiCriminnaaL and SanFierroTriad

Yes I love that line! It adds insult to injury, and drives home just how badly Isaac got screwed. Loses $2 million in cash, loses $2 million worth of diamonds, and is killed over it. Just a terrible fate for an otherwise honest character. Algonquin Assassin and santosvagos
james787
The Master and the Molotov because of milkale faustins downfall and betrayal by his best friend and how as your chasing him up the roof he talks about how the american dream is a like a disease. but hey he was a fictional psycho so he got his just deserts. P.S LC>>>>LS and That Special Someone mission because when niko bellic confronts darko about the betrayal of his friends for 1000 dollars so he could score some drugs and hearing roman say he should just let him be he doesn't look like he enjoys life too much that really hit me the first time i watched that cutscene. driving eddie low to the pier to drop off the body parts and hearing his psycho talk is kinda funny and than the second time you meet him and he loses it after being called not cool I mean the face on niko bellics face to what he is hearing is like WTF!!! Alexlecj
My favorite missions are Three Leaf Clover and To Live and Die in Alderney, two action-packed escapes in urban centers. They are full of adrenaline and encapsulate mayhem. Dialogue wise, Roman's Sorrow takes the cake for me. Superb writing and acting. KGBeast
Paper Trail. Nice careening heli chase over Algonquin, lots of fun Niko and Jacob dialogue, Jacob shooting the helicopter down looks really cool. Uncle-John
cant find a topic in TLAD but my favourite Missions from the game are clean and serene, just love how hilarious Billy is and the torture scene with pretty boy. Action/Reaction is my favourite absolutely destroying the AOD clubhouse with a grenade launcher and massacring them as they hurry out and then as you get inside a few fall out from upstairs on fire and extra crispy. Romans Holiday is absolutely hilarious in the exchange where Roman craps himself Lmao Niobium, iiCriminnaaL, VenusianDream and 1 other

billiejoearmstrong8
Three Leaf Clover and A Long Way to Fall for the reasons already mentioned. And That Special Someone, obviously not much to it gameplay wise but it's the most emotionally affecting mission I've played in a game. I also love Hostile Negotiation. First that picture text from Dimitri and the optional phone call to him, then just a great shootout against the Russians in an abandoned warehouse with them taunting you the whole time and special dialogue from Niko about rescuing Roman instead of the usual fighting dialogue, and dramatically saving Roman. I like how you can vary it, going the conventional way or alternatively going round the back up the stairs to near where Roman is so Niko and him start yelling to each other and the enemies run out after you and you can gun down half of them before going in, or turn up in a helicopter and go in from above through gaps in the roof, making sure you don't get blown up the the guy with a rocket launcher up there first. Niobium
i'm surprised nobody has mentions a dish served cold yet. it was so satisfying to finally bring an end to that piece of sh*t dimitri. i love the mission get lost. storming a maximum security prison with your buddies just to kill one guy. it's over-the-top but it is also unique. i like how the mission made use of a prison. and billy has one of the best pistol executions in IV. "checkmate dude." party's over is really fun too. but really challenging. you have to bring a strong weapon (like an AK47 or M4), and kill the russians quickly before they charge up the stairs to the VIP area. then, you have to bring lots of explosives with you to deal with the cars outside. but blowing them up is really fun. iiCriminnaaL, Algonquin Assassin, SanFierroTriad and 2 others

TheSantader25
Cutscene wise it has to be Crime and Punishment. That thing is gold. It has humor, seriousness and brilliant dialogue with relevant characters to the story. That's easily the best cutscene of the game IMO. Gameplay wise I have to go with Three Leaf Clover. engaging af. I'd like that mission more if there was more planning and build up to it. Like the first time I did that mission I wasn't even aware I was robbing a bank, they just told you to get a suit and meet at the McReary's. I mean, even San Andreas had more build up to the casino heist than this. Also to add to this list, I really like all the diamond related missions. As soon as I realized it was an overarching story, I was really excited to play those missions when I played through each episode for the first time. I felt like GTAIV established the diamond story, TLAD expanded on it and showed you more details about everything going on, but TBOGT kinda fell flat and I was honestly disappointed with how they presented that story arc in the episode. Did anyone else feel that way about the diamond story? I do enjoy playing the museum mission through each perspective, I think that's my favorite mission regarding the diamonds, also as I said before, Late Checkout when you wipe out the Jewish Mob at the Majestic. Algonquin Assassin
7 hours ago, LorshZontek said: I think that was the point really, it was a bank heist that was not planned and went wrong Yep and it's what makes it stands out compared to other heists in the series IMO. It's clear the McRearies don't plan it out very well so when things go to sh*t it actually feels realistic and believable in the context that any sort of "planning" was haphazard and shoddy at best. We also have to remember Niko's not in charge and is a crew member so he's not involved in the planning process at all and all that's required for him is to get a suit and getaway car. No meticulous scouting of the bank required. When I first played GTA IV it was cool how it sort of just happened out of the blue. Obviously given Gerry's reaction to Niko's involvement he was never supposed to be apart of it so that's why it seems to catch us off guard. I don't even mind that the bulk of the hold up takes place in a cutscene which has always been a criticism of this mission, but for me this is reminiscent of how at the start of Reservoir Dogs we don't see the jewellery store job play out and only the aftermath of it. The only difference is we do see it play out, but Niko's more of an observer to Packie and Derrick's bickering which leads to Michael being killed. I'd argue if there was more participation it would take away from a lot of the impact of Michael being killed and the descension of trust between Packie and Derrick. We can still go down to the vault afterwards to retrieve the money so that's fine at least to me. Onto the gameplay itself the shootout through Chinatown still remains as one of the most intense in the series. It's not that hard, but for anyone with claustrophobia the section through the subway probably would've been pretty harrowing the first time playing it. I even like how it incorporates some of GTA IV's non-linear gameplay. For example when we first go outside you could follow Packie and Derrick down the alley or go around the other side and flank the cops from ththat end or going into the subway you can go down the suggested route or go down the other side and avoid the cop that's there all together. Overall I just love that this mission although is very straight forward and simplistic in some ways still manages to feel original and unique in others. There's a reason R* saw this as the inspiration behind the heists in GTA V afterall. billiejoearmstrong8, SanFierroTriad, LorshZontek and 1 other
billiejoearmstrong8
I also think although there isn't any planning there's still a decent build up to it in the form of the other robberies you do with Packie and the crew. First a small job just you and Packie, then a medium sized one with more of the guys, getting to know them along the way, and then a bigger job. Flows nicely for me.
