Say what? It sounds like you played The Witcher before The Witcher: Enhanced Edition was released.

The idea behind the inventory system in the first game is pretty cool, but that's about it. The fact that the inventory only takes up only a small part of the screen is bad enough already. Small as f*ck icons that are difficult to differentiate was also a major problem.

tbh tbh tbh Desmond was a c*nt and I miss nothing from the modern day stuff.
I can't wait until this game comes out so this Layla girl f*cks off for eternity and we hopefully not get anything modern day related anymore.

I enjoyed the modern day aspect of old Assassin's Creed games. I liked Desmond and all the other characters. The story was intriguing and it held a promise of a payoff. Sadly we never got to see that payoff because they blew it with Assassin's Creed III. How Desmond's story wrapped up was obviously not what was originally intended. Which was later confirmed. Most people didn't care that much because Mass Effect 3 was released that same year and it took all the gamer rage with it.

The real story was definitely intriguing to me. Unfortunately, Ubisoft departed from the original vision even before III. After following the story in back-to-back play-throughs starting from Assassin's Creed, I recall how disgusted I was at the lazy phoned-in excuse for modern day in Revelations.

I know there are people who are really only in it for the gameplay, but I think that there are people who became uninterested in modern day due to Ubisoft's treatment--and execution--of it, and not necessarily the idea itself. I mean, even in the first game, I could see the slow pace made even slower by Desmond's forced-for-no-reason slow-walk (and the admittedly drab-ass environment) making a lot of people resent being kept out of the Animus.

I promise that if I had any idea--any at all--where you could be coming from I would acknowledge it. Each item has a unique image, takes up a different number of grid spaces depending on size, and further, mousing over any item gives its description. Alchemical ingredients are color-coded as well. If there was no mouse-over description, then yeah--I could see an issue.

The leaked footage seems to be from an old build. Odyssey and Origins were far more polished than that.

Patrice Desilets left Ubisoft in 2010 after Brotherhood and that's when AC really started to go in a different direction.

Everytime we switched to Desmond I thought great it's boring time now. I hated the modern day so much for taking me out of the Animus I just wanted to skip through it so I could go back to my historical setting.

The modern day stuff would be interesting if the pay off was a modern day game, but telling bits and pieces of a story that often felt like it was being made up as they went along over years and years just doesn't work IMO.

I think it would have been great if they had put actual effort into an overarching story, with progressively later eras chosen for the historical events that would eventually lead up to a modern-day Assassin's Creed. And since it occurs to me again, I must add that I'm annoyed that the title of 'Assassin's Creed' has come to mean 'Historicalish Romp' instead of.....Assassins and their Creed.

Unfortunately, I think the problem was that they did actually start making it up as they went along, treating it as a checkbox rather than a foundation. Eventually, the games as a whole were just conceived and whipped up as fast as possible to keep them monies rollin' in.

Even three years is far too short a development time for an open world game of the ambition and scope that Ubisoft likes to pretend at. Aspects of development like brainstorming, R&D, problem-solving, and trial & error just can't be temporally compressed by cranking up the manpower. You can greatly decrease the time it takes to build a house by quadrupling the number of workers without a drop in quality; it's not near as true for the design of the house itself.

The leaked release date for Valhalla is two days before Cyberpunk.

....so, I'll be buying Valhalla on sale I guess.

In a time when people will be buying new consoles as well, so money might be a bit tight to spend on games for many, especially after what's happened this year too.

It's not like it's going against GTA or RDR2 (I'd be surprised if Cyberpunk does that well in it's first week sales) but yea, Jesus. They must have been livid when Cyberpunk's new date got announced. The fact these dates are so close to what is probably the new consoles launch as well I think potentially paints a picture about how confident some of these studios are about their games optimisation wise. I'm guessing the current gen versions of Valhalla and Cyberpunk are a little rough.

What they show today better be an improvement over the leaked gameplay. I'm not expecting much It'll probably look the same I just hope that they fixed it up a bit.

The face anims look completely broken and look worse than odyssey for some reason

It's sad to see what this franchise has become, it really is.

The facial animations look bloody awful. The combat looks like a lot of fun to me though, the raids and sieges etc, those all look fun.

Watching some of the gameplay they're showing post-show it's like they've taken as much as they can possibly can from games like Witcher 3 and RDR2, especially when it comes to open world stuff, even having stuff like small random events from RDR2. Valhalla couldn't be further away from the traditional AC games if it tried lol.

There's an open world boss they stumble into it where they basically mumbo jumbo their way into allowing them to have a straight up fantasy boss fight. At this point I don't know why they don't create a new franchise that lets them really go wild with this stuff instead of having to play by rules of an established franchise without sh*tting all over it's story.

I can only guess it's because of corona which slowed down their works.

They should just delay it at this point and fix those issues, it looks terrible.

I'm just so tired of Ubisoft playing it so safe these days. Goddammit. Do something new. Put out quality. Not quantity. I would have preferred a fully fleshed out AC in 4 years instead of 3 mediocre completely similar Assassin's Creeds. I guess it's more profitable this way. You get to sell the same product 3 times with minimum creative effort.

They're charging $120 for the full experience. That should tell you all about where their priorities lie. Quality isn't very high on the list.

If you're a PC player by the way, given when both games release, it is possible to play both Watch Dogs 3 and Valhalla for $15. Should be just about enough time to complete both games with a months subscription, depending on how much you play Valhalla.

Both the facial animations and character models look like last gen and that's not hyperbole. Man are they bad. Other parts of the game look unfinished as well. The best part is the combat which looks great.

It's almost as if the game isn't finished ...

... oh, right, it isn't! That's why they put it in every gameplay scene.

Just calm down people.

The Witcher IV: Valhalla is a fitting name for this game, that's what Ubisoft tries to do, copy everything from Witcher III or atleast tries to but fails and ends up looking like doo doo

They're not going to change the game radically in more or less 3 months.

The only reason why they specify "work in progress" is to avoid another Watch Dogs scenario.

Sure, but did The Witcher 3 have a $120 edition? Nope. Did The Witcher 3 have in-game microtransactions? Also nope. You can get all the microtransactions that your heart desires in a $120 game with janky animations if you go with Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. An offer that you just can't f*ckin' refuse! The Witcher 3 can't compare with that kind of offer.

Reading this, i kind of wish Witcher 3 had microtransactions and a $120 edition would make the game so perfect and janky animations? hell yea for that man i love that sh*t, every game comapany would pack their bags and quit making games, am i right?

Hope they do it for Witcher 4 i'm all for it cause i love spending my money on garbage.

Granted this is looked like an awkwardly timed pic in meh lighting but... Ubi pls:

fireshotcapture027-aszekxe.png

I tried to find a meh lit pic from my own Odyssey snaps (taken in photo mode, so not quite the same as raw gameplay):

L1Wzafa.jpg

Assassin's Creed player models aren't top tier to begin with, but what the f*ck did they do with Valhalla? The player models look a level below Odyssey. My pic isn't even running on max settings either.
