trip
Sure this might not really warrant it's own topic, but then again it may. The Streets of Rage series was well loved.     25 years since the last release in the series. This one is already getting good reviews. I'm sure most of it is the nostalgia talking. And...that is half of why I started this thread. My wife is a former gamer and Streets of Rage was her thing. She thought she was Blaze. Honest, I never had a chance to touch our NES or Sega back in the day.  She has since moved away from most games, but she expressed interest in playing this. This might be the day where I lose my xbox. Just like in the past when I lost the NES and then Sega to her.    E: This is available on xbox gamepass by the way. If you played the Streets of Rage series back in the day Streets of Rage 4 is totally neat.  Totally worth checking out. It really is what would happen as normal progression of the series.  So the jump from 3 to 4 is not that jarring...even if it has been 25 years in between installments.  I haven't check out the online component yet.  Edited April 30, 2020 by trip Ivan1997GTA, Mister Pink, Halal Cyborg and 2 others 5 My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens
Mister Pink
It has beautiful animation. When I saw the title, I was hoping the art-direction would be more akin to The Warriors: Street Brawl, basically more realistic. But I can appreciate the animation for what it is. And especially since they said it's hand-drawn animation, is nice. It's like Street Fighter and SoR had a baby.  If it's on Game Pass, I'll defo try give it a go. Could be a nice game that you can play 30 mins of here and there. Daz, Night Machine and trip 3  RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)
Night Machine
Streets of Rage is still one of my all time favorite series and I still play them regularly. I will definitely have to get this one for sure since I love the good old classic beat 'em ups. I've Been playing Streets of Rage 1-3 a lot lately along with Final Fight. I would give anything for River City Ransom and Double Dragon to come out on the Xbox1. Thanks for sharing this.  trip, Mister Pink, Ivan1997GTA and 1 other
Mister Pink
Played it last night and it's fun. It really captures the game play of the older games. It's challenging too (but then again, I'm sh*t at games in general, ha) I'm playing on Normal and got Game Over before I could complete the first level with Axel. Tried another go with Blaze and had more success. Killed the first boss. But then you meet those cops with the shields.. damn. Didn't make it far into the second zone.  Edited May 2, 2020 by Mister Pink trip, Night Machine, Daz and 1 other 4  RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

trip
Yeah, it is not a casual game. Ha. I finally managed through stage 1.  Again, I really love how this release is handled like the past 25 years hasn't happened. It is just like Streats of Rage 4 came out in 1995...a year after Streets of Rage 3.   There have been a few really good throwback games of late.  If you have access to Counterattack, I'd recommend that as another good throwback style game too. Johan
Does this game have online co-op ? (campaign) Â On the PSN store it mentioned online 2-2, which to me looks like it's some sort of versus mode? Edited May 3, 2020 by Johan Daz
Daz
Oh man, I have been waiting for this for a long time. Â SOR1 was probably my most played game as a kid, and still holds up despite its age, out of everything from the cartridge era this may be the one game I have to choose as my favorite. So this obviously is great to get an updated game. I was however a little disappointed in a few areas. The music is pretty cool but not as good as I was expecting coming from the original artists. There is a "Retro Audio" option which is really nice, but the audio is random and seemingly only from SOR2 and none from 1 or 3. I did like that you can customize the health pickups to different styles based off your diet choices, though for me I wouldn't want anything other than the classic Apple and Chicken. Â I love the animations and the gameplay is essentially identical which is great. Some of the levels are a bit tedious and annoying, as well as some of the new enemy types being little bitches and using lame tactics, I prefer the levels with basic enemy types that I can combo through instead of annoying AOE bosses and thrown item enemy types and the like. Not too bad though considering. I have beat the game 10+ times now to get all the characters so I have all the classic characters which is a really cool feature. The downside is that I thought for sure you would unlock the new version of Shiva, Max and Estele as they were in the character info screen. So that kind of sucks. Also Axel is pretty slow and ineffective in comparison to Adam which is a shame. I am glad there are retro characters but games like this really need a bunch of choices for characters, hopefully they might add more in the future? But I doubt it. I found it odd that you see Roo behind a bar, and then can't even unlock him. I was convinced of this otherwise why model him at all? Â Overall its a decent game and plays just like the originals, but I was kind of hoping it would have maybe offered some new move sets or other button options to do unique moves. For example there is a button that is a hotkey for the reverse attack, however in the Genesis Collection you could button map even your power attack (Hold X/Square) as an instant move to one of the bumpers. I would have liked to have seen instant kicks or power/slide/jump moves instantly bound to bumpers and triggers, but its pretty much the same as the old days, you have to still do the combo for it. Also there seemed there was quite a few cut characters, a lot seen in artwork or early screenshots never made it into the game which is a shame, there would have been multiple I would have loved to have seen be remastered. Â Not as satisfying as the originals but a decent attempt, it would have been cool to have some custom level or character creator but I think this is probably as far as we will get for this sadly. Wow, I really like the music. Didn't realise it's from the original artists. That's great. Didn't know about the Retro Audio option either.  I wouldn't be surprised if they make a 5th one. This one seemed to work out great for them. And you might see an introduction of new characters and moves.  Looking back on my older posts. I think now the art is in the right spiritual direction and evolution of the originals. It captures the essence of playing the originals.  RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)
