How do I find 2 perfect rabbits?

I killed loads but none are perfect

You need to find 3-star rabbit. It's just about the luck. When you find one and you need perfect pelt/carcass, kill them with regular arrow or varmint rifle. Aim only for the head.

You need a varmint rifle, an arrow will mess up the pelt, and small game arrow wont kill it

I could swear, I was hunting them with regular arrow.

@Gobshyte You really want to hunt the legendary Buck and craft the Buck Antler trinket as it reduces the chances the pelt will spoil. Can't emphasise enough what a difference this makes, with the amount of hunting you have to do if you're after completing all tasks for 100%, it will significantly reduce your frustration levels. It doesn't gaurantee you get a perfect pelt, but you can often get away with one of either not using the perfect weapon, or not hitting a critical point (often the head) if it's a 3 star animal. Some smaller animals, like little birds, that go into the satchel, you can wind up with a perfect specimen even if it's a 1 or 2 star animal.

 

Use the varmint rifle. If you haven’t unlocked Dead Eye level two (ie completed pouring fourth oil iv) don’t use it. Because if you can’t tag yet, you’ll likely hit the rabbit more than once, which will definitely spoil the pelt. You must get it with a single shot.

 

As others have said, look for a three star animal. Rabbits are numerous all over the map but particularly good places early on are twin stack pass, and the woody areas between Horseshoe Overlook and Rhodes (long stretch).

Other tips:

This can be combined with Horseman Challenge 1 (shooting 5 Rabbits from Horseback, 3 of these kills overlap provided you aren't on foot).

Donate at least one of the perfect rabbit pelts for crafting to Pearson back at camp as it's a satchel upgrade requirement.
