Quite excited to get in on the open beta when it's live.. although I must admit, I've been playing BF4 the past couple of weeks and I am absolute dogwater lol. Haven't touched an FPS game in over two years.

Feel like it should be delayed until next year honestly. It's no where near polished enough for a game out next month.

I like the map and thought the weapons felt really nice. The beta is pretty buggy. Was flying a heli and the passenger was sitting outside the heli, just floating in the air, lol. Other than that I enjoyed it. I mean, I'm not the target market but enjoyed it for what it is.

I've been enjoying it also, mind you I've had to crank most settings to medium. Also, Is the obsessive amount of weapon sway with smaller scopes intentional or a bug? Anyone had the same issue? :kekw:

My mate had a game and didn't have a lot of the issues I had, so it may have been server side lag I was experience which made the game basically unplayable. Will be giving it another go and hopefully it'll be better, but I am genuinely sick and tired of buying a new game and my immediate experience being "I can't wait till they fix X / I hope they fix X", so if it's not ready I'd really rather they delay it into next year but we'll see.

Edit: Had a full game on PC (initially played on Series S) and it was way smoother. Still buggy, ragdoll glitches and terrain glitches in particular but the lag wasn't there. It auto set its self to high settings and seemed to be running at around 70fps consistently (3440x1440, 5800x/3070) which is more than playable for me. Couple that with some optimisations and DLSS and it'll probably run alright. That being said, there were some slight stutters in the big moments at times.

DICE's horrific BF menus are back on the menu as well. It's like they're intentionally trying to avoid doing anything that emulates Call of Duty's menus so they're just bloody mental and confusing as all hell.

Delay incoming, according to PS Store Brazil.

(pic related just talks about how Battlefield just received a new release date and isn't coming on Nov 18th anymore)

edit: false alarm, it seems

I played an hour or so of the beta, wasn't expecting much and still felt pretty underwhelmed by what's being shown. The map honestly feels way too huge despite the player count, and it takes me a while to actually find people running around that aren't just bots. Driving feels a bit sluggish as well, despite Criterion apparently helping with the whole handling model and such. UI is also a bit of mess, had no idea how to change attachments or change the view on the scopes until I started pressing every button on my controller possible. Couldn't figure out how to open up the map either but it's probably just me being stupid at this point.

I've had a bit of glitches and bugs with player models ragdolling and tons of texture flickering, even pop in from various trees here and there. I want this game to be good, but so far it just isn't quite there yet. Doesn't help that the Halo Infinite beta was this past weekend either.

Yeah I found this to be true as well. I hope they sort out their UI there's nothing more crippling than navigating through bad menus.

Played a few games on PC and a few games on Series S now. All versions need some work, but the frame rate on the Series S version got rough at times. Don't think it ever went below 30 but I think it got close.

The gameplay is solid, it feels like BF and once the playerbase settles and gets a feel for the game and the maps I think it'll flow better, right now it's a bit chaotic and you can find your self getting shot from all directions right now.

But... Specialists are completely and utterly pointless and need removing. Seriously, DICE need to admit defeat and just remove them and add the ability to allow people to make their own soldiers. The complete lack of distinction between friendly and enemy is HUGE problem that I cannot believe has made it all the way to open beta a month before release, I'm relying on the marker above heads way too much to determine if it's a friendly or enemy.

I 100% think the game will benefit massively from another delay. Go for Feb/March 2022, it'll be disappointing for fans but I think everyone will be fine with it in the end. It needs an extra layer of polish and some features changing/tweaking cause otherwise it's gonna launch hot and they'll end up having to change this stuff while the game is live which is always more difficult.

I played two matches and it's missing the unique spark that BF4 & 3 had. I'm not feeling this one. I was excited to grab it day one, but now I'm not really sure.

My main concern is with the Specialist system. I would've preferred the traditional classes system. It emphasized teamwork within the game more than anything. While over here, DICE seems to be emphasizing individuality creating a gap in terms of communication between you and team mates. It sucks that DICE is going forward with this system regardless because of microtransactions. The ping system is really confusing and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I can't view a map to even fully utilize this system.

Also, why the heck do allies and enemies look the same? Other than the times you would mistake an ally for an enemy, if you lose yourself within all that chaos, it would feel more like a free for all mode than two teams battling each other.

Hopefully, DICE listens to the feedback and make some changes before launch. I have my doubts, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I am so disappointed in the 2042 beta. I really had such high hopes. I personally feel like this beta is sh*t and there's so much left to be worked on.. I don't even know how this is dropping next month. It should be delayed further. Perhaps this beta build is two months behind the current state of the game, but I really just can't look past all the bugs and glitches, on top of the lifeless COD persona that seems to have taken over the BF franchise. There is no sense of character or charm to this game whatsoever. It's sad how BF4, a game that's almost a decade old, feels superior to this game in every sense. Even BF1 is more enjoyable than this. If this is what the final game will look and feel like, count me out.. guess I'll be playing BF4 until the community dies out.

Saw some gameplay, and man, it looks trash. Looks like EA is trying to cash in on the whole hero shooter and Call of Duty trend, tbh.

I still can't get behind the whole Specialist thing, the whole thing just gives me a Rainbow Six Siege vibe. I play Battlefield partially because I like playing as different armies and factions, languages and all, it gives the side you're playing as a lot more personality, and it's what sets the series apart from the others. I like the idea of playing as Private John Doe/Jane Doe rather than play as a pre-established character, it just feels much more grounded and leaves much more room for role play. Worst part is the factions don't even have their own uniforms. I just hate the idea of killing a duplicate character on the other team. They claim it's because of balancing issues but I digress. The game will eventually become imbalanced anyway for a number of unforeseen reasons.

The takedowns are absolutely garbage and it takes you out of the experience. Why change the takedowns to third person? Call of Duty already did it better and they did it really cool. The appeal behind Battlefield is also because of its brutal first person melee takedowns, and somehow they haven't learnt from 4, 1 and V that people just like getting up close and personal.

Just compare this.

With this.

Other than some of the cool things like the reimagined Conquest I'm saving my money on this one, or ever lol. Gaming is getting really stale now.

didnt they say the beta is running with an early 2021 build? so they still had many months to finalize the game

Everyone said this during BF4 beta... and many others. I think it's gonna be another case of waiting 1 yr before picking it up on sale tbh.

I liked the beta but the thing that turned me off the most was the zippy sprinting and player movements. It feels like Apex more than BF. So I'll stick with BF1 in the meantime

2042 Beta feels like a MW2019 Asset flip oddly enough, stiff controls, no chat wheel, sh*tty hit detection, ONE map, and no levelution. I reckon his game is gonna be on the ps plus free games in half a year.

I have merged this and the old topic and renamed appropriately. If you require any critical information added to the first post, let me know.

On topic, I tried the beta, was impressed somewhat, disappointed somewhat. I can tell it has the potential with its game engine and gameplay to be great, I am just not quite sure about some of the choices made.

1: The biggest issue for me is I really dislike the operator/character system. On one hand I love that any kit can use any piece of equipment, I think that is really awesome and something the series needed for a long time, save for really kit specific items such as med bags, ammo, etc, but then again why not? So part of me likes this system. But I have two main issues with it. One being that each character has their own equipment ability, which means this takes up the slot of other  equipment. I ALWAYS ran C4 + ammo bags in each game I played that I could. This was my go to equipment to resupply C4 to take out tanks as I primarily relied on on foot combat an rarely ever used a vehicle other than for novelty. I can no longer do this. It also means that you would not be able to have something like a rocket launcher AND a repair tool like the classic Engineer kit. Secondly my other main gripe is that the characters look LAME AS F*CK. Honestly the assault dude which is the only one to choose due to the grappling hook being so damn useful for so many reasons. But he looks like a cross between Jake Gyllenhaal and Wallace from Wallace and Gromit, only with his eyeballs squeezed out more, more akin to a reject character from Battlefield Friends. I don't want to be a ghillie suit character, or a 90 year old woman, so my options are limited. This also prevents all the cool features we could have had that Battlefield 5 fell short on with kit and character customizations. This is a massive step back in customizability, and uniqueness to characters. I am fine with them sticking with the same camo or color to make sense on the battlefield, and kits can have a similar style, but I always wanted to change my headgear, or have a balaclava and glasses or goggles, or a different style of helmet, or to remove a giant backpack for something more slimline, or just slight tweaks to make a character my own. That is now likely out the window with this new stupid R6 Siege/Overwatch model which I think really detracts from the customizability of the game. Otherwise without kits everyone is only dictated by the character skin/operator and one ability they have, which is kind of silly.

2: My second biggest issue is that in order to have a cool name (BF 2042 instead of BF6) it now gives the obligation to have futuristic weapons all because it wanted to mirror 1942 as they always do. The issue with that is that it is too far into the future, it is not a couple years ahead like games usually do. And we also don't want fake guns, we want the real thing. If you give me an AK-24 that just seems stupid to be because it does not exist. I would rather just have the AK-12 that does exist. (This method does not seem to happen with the vehicles as they all seem pretty conventional and not futuristic to an extent.) They also felt the need to replace pic rails with what looks like thicker "powered" rails. Which makes no sense to me, because they still use existing optics from modern day, so I don't quite know what they were going for here. As if you had a rail that powered your red dot, it would mean red dots could be FAR smaller and not require so much space for a battery, but the optics are the same, so what is the point? Maybe this only exists on a small number of main base guns in the game that each side uses. But I really hope it doesn't spoil and ruin classic guns. Everyone wants to use the Battlefield favourite G3, but I don't want a G3-2035 version, because that whole concept would be redundant and stupid. So I want to make sure my classic weapons don't get messed with. Even the fake Glock (G57) has some weird thick black rail below it which does not look quite right. All in order to appear futuristic. Which I think they should swiftly abandon. I am all for correctly named and correctly represented firearms in games like this, especially where shooting is the primary focus. And don't give me that BS about having to pay companies to license it, it NEVER effected them in the past before, it just is a lazy aspect of gaming being used lately, especially with games such as Hitman, Modern Warfare and others. There is no need for it. I don't want to learn FAKE model numbers, if it is fake, or not named correct, call it a nickname that is easy to remember. May as well call the Glock18 the Banger18. G57 makes no sense. It would not even follow that format within Glock's naming strategies, as it would more likely be a Glock18 Gen6 rather than taking a new number designation entirely.

I do love that enemies now drop ammo finally, which has been needed for SO LONG, as it was my primary reason for running ammo bags. But now with this and the ability to switch ammo types to get more ammo, seems like it makes the ammo bags a bit pointless, especially considering you could be using C4, a rocket, or armor instead of this. Hence why we really need to have both slots available for use in addition to the characters ability, or just let us choose if we want it at all.

The customize your gun on the fly feature is interesting, completely unrealistic and kind of weird, but unique in its own respect. The only issue there is how will this work later in the game? Can we unlock 20 different sights and choose our favorite in the list to be our default close range and default long range optic, our default compensator and default suppressor? Or will it list all 20 items in a row being cumbersome? Or is that all we get? Will there not even be any other options in the game other than this? That is worrying. I am hoping for the pick your default for each type option.

It is a bit weird though being able to put on a scope whenever you want to suit your needs. It may be a little too much freedom? Maybe they might restrict it to only be able to be used within a base or friendly cap point? Or maybe only at a specific box? I don't know yet.

Anyway that is all for now, I am sure I missed a lot, but it is mostly kits, a lot of freedom that makes everything the same. Also how each side is the same is pretty stupid, we should have at least US vs Russia for visuals. Also the gameplay is pretty damn quick, not quite sure about how that will play in relation to other things. It is so fast and quick to get around, I can't tell if its for good or bad.

The attachment swap system is unrealistic but I really kinda like the ability to tweak your loadout on the fly like that, but I think they need to add a realistic aspect to it but not because of immersion, but balance. It's so quick now that changing ammo types is quicker than reloading, and you can swap scopes too quickly and easily. They need to add some decent animation to it that slows it right down, an animation where you see your character physically swap the attachments out would fix all the issues with it I think.

But it's stuff like that ammo type swap thing, the lack of factions etc that genuinely flabbergast me with this game. This is DICE, one of the most experienced FPS developers on the planet but BF 2042's just full of rookie mistakes and I just can't understand how these issues made it into a beta one month from launch. I can not get my head around it.

As I and others have mentioned, the specialist system just needs to go and I'd go as far as saying that there needs to be a major rework to tools due to the lone wolf playstyles they encourage. The grappling hook, if it stays, and I'd be all for it being deleted, should probably physically deploy a grappling hook anyone can use and players should only have a very limited supply of grappling looks before they need to resupply. It balances them, makes them more squad friendly and leaves them for enemy soldiers to take advantage of. The sentry dog needs some type of order system, or changing into a mobile turret you can order to stop or something. That way you can have it help cover a spot for your squad, rather than it being a headless chicken with a gun. The medic gun doesn't work, I'd replace it with a juiced up medic bag with an increased radius or something like that, and add defibs back as an optional gadget.

I am very curious to see how DICE responds to player feedback and concerns after the beta honestly. The game just has one too many issues to launch it right now, it's either delay it and fix the issues or launch the game in a sorry state and fix it live, which is always more difficult. But more than anything, DICE need to admit defeat on some features and revert them to how they were in previous BF's or heavily tweak them. I'd also like to see fortifications added in from BF V, but I doubt we'll get those anytime soon.

The Specialist system is far into development that scrapping the whole thing isn't likely an option nowadays. It can still be addressed by introducing changes and making it more restrictive than it currently is. Plus, the studio already announced more Specialists on the way. For example, there's this Wingsuit Specialist, which has been datamined here:

Spoiler

Her Gadget aka Smart Explosives makes it a bit promising and so her specialist doesn't sound bad as I initially thought. But should it have been made into a specialist? Like this could have been an upgrade to one of the existing four specialists we have. Many of the other specialists sounds the same. One Specialist is much like a Medic, but he's all about repairing armor. Another Specialist is allegedly able to spot enemies after being shot at and can see enemies thru walls.

We already have a limited version of fortifications exclusive to Kimble “Irish” Graves Specialist.

Quote

Includes the DCS Deployable Cover to protect from bullets and explosives, and the APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel to take down explosive projectiles.

Anyhow, the good news and what's really promising is the Battlefield Portal Hub/Feature DICE have teased. It can bring back the classic class system into the new BF2042 maps or even let us experience older maps and also the custom script editor sounds promising too.

If I'm gonna pay full price after launch, it would most likely be due to the community-created content.

Meh and i preordered that game, because it's the first BF after years that is not a World War game. But f*ck it i will give it a try. Maybe they do something about the specialist thing, i really really hope so.

I still got BF4 installed, because 1 and V sucked. I did love BF2, liked BF3 and still liked BF4, but after that all was just bad, i thought they would bring back the good old BF feeling but no, they completly destroyed the core of the game it seems.

I will play it less than 2 hours after release, and if it sucks i will just refund it. If i can somehow get into the game, i will keep it. At least a new game, it's been ages i played a new competetive shooter. Hmm who knows, maybe the 128 players chaos is fun. I didn't play the Beta, so no idea how it will be. I can't judge a game by gameplay videos, i always need to play it myself.

Edit: I just informed myself about Portal, wow it sounds fun, that will probably be the main reason i won't refund it lol. If the base game sucks, i will just play Portal. Oh yeah that is comforting.

It seems portal mode is going to be the best part of BF2042!!
I wish there was a map editor...or at least we had Siege Of Shanghai map there! my fav map of all time in any shooter game!
