CharlesVercetti
Not a popular topic, but wanted to point this one after watching Naoki Urasawa's Monster(2004) recently. It's realism, historic timeline and the European background can possibly yield a good live action adaptation.
Awful Waffle
I would say Akira but that idea is a dead horse which has been beaten into a fine granular powder... pretty sure some major movie studio owns the rights and the project has been attempted more than once but has been stuck in development hell for something like 15 years. at this rate I wouldn't trust Hollywood to get it right, anyhow. live action Ghost In The Shell wasn't bad, for instance, but it completely glossed over the philosophical and existential message of the original manga and just skipped straight to the fighting / shooting scenes. Akira has an even more complex physiological angle which delves into horror and nihilism and apocalypse and prophecy; some really intense and disturbing stuff. the modern film industry wouldn't understand how to present Akira to a Western audience. they wouldn't know what box to stuff it into. they would likely dumb it down and simplify it to a painful degree. if anything, great anime like this might actually be ready for a premium TV series. maybe HBO or Showtime or one of the other powerhouse TV producers could actually pull it off. it would actually be a lot better for the complexity of the story and the characters. having it split up into episodes. thisisdagger
I cant remember a single anime adaptation that didn't feel cringe and out of touch with its source material. I dunno but for me anime is just it's very own sphere and doesn't mix too well with "reality" as in how real humans look like. The whole style is just part of the appeal for me. Maybe a very grounded anime like MONSTER could work... but then again what would be the point. sabitsuki
sabitsuki
Banana Fish could work well as a Wire-style Netflix action crime drama. Mr Robot was pretty similar to Serial Experiments Lain but I didn't really like that show. Felt like a cringey woke Fight Club ripoff. Zello
Cowboy Bebop Netflix was working on it but it went on hiatus and so far it sounds terrible. Let anime be anime they don't need live action adaptations. Edited April 30, 2020 by Zello thisisdagger
