Must have mods for GTA IV

Hello everyone, I'm planning to play IV again. And this time, I really want to fix all these annoying graphic issues and problems, so can u please tell me what mods are must have for this game? I'm only interested in mods that are going to fix and imrpove experience of the game. No ENB and all that crap, just pure vanilla GTA IV with some improvements.

In my opinion, it is highly recommended to create your own experience in terms of mods, but there are a few that are absolutely essential:

-XLiveLess (for <1.0.8.0)

-RIL Budgeted (fixes the Taxi Bug, when adding new things into the game)

~Kilatomate's Realistic Handling & Driving (stock IV driving is already good, but this mod makes it even better)

 

In terms of optional stuff that I like, that adds to the immersive-ness of the city:

-VisualIV (most subtle graphical mod, just google the effects)

-Recoil Fix (adds weapon spread to guns, just like in the console versions)

 

Any other mods that you add to the game is up to your preference, this is just a recommended start.

 

Oh, and don't forget the Commandline fixes!

 

(P.S., this goes without saying, but downgrade your game to 1.0.7.0, before modding the game heavily.)

If you're looking to see some more gang hostility (both between rival gangs and to the player, depending on story events) and crime rate you may like what I've done with Potential Grim.

More variety in traffic

Computer for Bohan and Alderney safehouse

First of, I would recommend you to play IV with patch 1.0.4.0 installed - best version with less bugs/glitches

As for really must have mods, I would recommend only bulletspread fix and AMD water fix, if you on AMD video card

Also, limit your fps to 60 via vsync or framelimiter (vsync better) to fix zoomed it cutscenes and stuttering

I have the following mods installed for realism:

 

1. GTAIV_Vanilla_Fixes_V1.4

2. ultimate_textures_v20

3. lords_textures

4. RealisticDriving_EFLC_13

5. Realistic Traffic and Pedestrian Mod for GTAIV, EFLC and The Complete Edition

6. 1499901104_HQ Radio Icons 1.2

 

I'm looking at Potential Grim as well but I think that would wipe out mod no.5 which I also like

I would not  use texture-mods... for me it only causes more texture popup and vanilla textures still fit best to the game. 

 

If you want to have vanilla graphics but without the so called "piss-filter" you can use this mod...

You can also check Responsive Plus if you're in for some minor enhancements here and there, such as: briefly tweaked suspension and acceleration for various vehicles, less blurry and more refined time cycles (while keeping the original art style untouched), more realistic weapon performance (armed pedestrians will aim faster and also have more accuracy, which make somewhat more professional and challenging gun fights), and more (including Dimitri Rascalov without glasses 😜).

The texture mods are actually working really well, no pop ins whatsoever thankfully.

The game is on average pushing my 2070 super at 80% usage which I am happy with considering how famous this game is for bad optimisation. I think a large part of that is because of dsr x4 though.

 

I really recommend mod no.5 (Realistic Traffic and Pedestrian Mod) it adds nicely to the immersion of busier days and quieter nights.

Can somebody kindly assist a total idiot looking to buy gta iv for pc and add some mods?

 

was going to buy an old copy from amazon because I know from trying to apply mods to GTA:SA earlier versions work best with mods. 

 

Ive seen the updated steam version has a lot of changes in that it’s only the complete edition available and that it uses a different ‘launcher’ (clueless)

 

am I better buying the used amazon copy or downloading it from steam and in either case will I still be able to use mods?

 

any helps appreciated

You should use CryENB v3, it makes the game look much better while retaining it's natural look.

My mod list is the following:
 

I'm playing on GTA IV Complete Edition (Steam version) 1.2.0.43.

ESSENTIALS:
- Ultimate ASI Loader + Fusion Fix
- Script Hook 0.5.1  + Complete Edition Hooks
- Radio Downgrader + Hotfix

SCRIPTS:
- Traffic Flow
- (optional) Project2DFX 4.4
- (optional) Simple Trainer (used only for testing purposes)

COLOR CORRECTION (TIMECYC.DAT & OTHERS):

- CleanIV
- RealityIV
- Sweet Autumn
They are all good in my opinion, of corse you can install only one of those. For now I'm going with RealityIV (without its shaders) but I'm open to more options.

TEXTURES:
- Exaggerated Blood 1.16
- Tweak All Peds
- DKT70 HD Roads & Vegetation
- Ultimate Textures 2.0
- (optional) Variety Vegetation
Installed in this order, because some files are overwritten by others.

GAMEPLAY & QUALITY OF LIFE:
- Killatomate's Realistic Driving & Flying 1.3 (I'm using the recommended files)
- GrandMaztahAce's Realistic Traffic and Pedestrians
- Keelo's Realistic Weapon Damage & Ammunition v2
- Plane Flight Path Improvements
- Dot Crosshair with HP
- Fixed Combat Shotgun Icon

MODS I WOULD LIKE TO USE:
- Potential Grim (its "popcycle.dat" overwrites "GrandMaztahAce's Realistic Traffic and Pedestrians" one, I don't know whether to tweak it or simply replace it with Potential Grim's one)
- Responsive Plus (pretty cool mod by the same author of the aforementioned one, but more "invasive" because if installed in its entirety their files replace "Realistic Driving 1.3" (handling.dat), "Keelo's Realistic Weapon Damage & Ammunition v2" (WeaponInfo.xml) and modifies txd files already changed by Radio Downgrader's Hotfix. I'm thinking to do the same thing as above)
- TheYoshiPunch's Character Fixes (it replaces a lot of files but it's very intriguing).

Now it has its own traffic and pedestrian changes, with some more realistic values, as well as differences between weekdays and weekends. There's still an option to have the default traffic and pedestrians, though.
