PC GTA Online bug leaves people homeless

Solved for me aswell.

 

I was just creating a new character meanwhile transfering level. After creation, tried to switch to my previous and main, which failed and being redirected automatically to GTA V as result (took like 2 mins). Tried a couple times, same result.

 

Then, from GTA V joined a friend session, and... + Wendy is a new contact notification  everything got back, and I even keep the Deluxo I won this morning on the wheel while I was "homeless". So far so good!

fwiw I logged in for 5 days in a row ending today, to do the daily objective thing, and didn't notice any problems. I also got the $500k today finally.

I wonder how many cars will be lost to this bug if you guys are saying they are now placed randomly in your first garage. I can see a lot of potential issues with this.

Be sure that those new cars didn't merge/got replaced with the cars you had there before.

The only thing I've noticed is that my Bunker had converted all it's supplies (75k + 15k) into 168K of product ready to sell.
The last thing I did yesterday evening was a Bunker sale with the buggy (got the same mission again tonight)
I did re-order supplies before I quit but haven't played for the 2 hours needed for conversion due to the technical issues. 
Hence the new supplies wouldn't have been turned into product.

Add the unwanted character facial changes and that suggests to me that their servers were compromised to some degree and they've had to revert to an earlier point in time.
On the plus side it meant I got an additional bunker sale.

I guess we'll never know the cause. Hopefully it won't happen again...

The only bad news, if u have OCD; all your cars have been moved around in the order of the garages, but they are still there

You don't need to add new content to the game. Just take the old content away for a day or two, give it back and everyone will be happy! 

I mean it works with little kids and toys, why wouldn't it work with online games, right?

I'm sure they make backups every day / every couple of hours just in case. If the server died they had to roll back to the previous copy, not a big deal. 

But I do wonder why it happened only now after all those years? Maybe because of Covid there are less people to maintain it if something goes wrong? That could surly explain it.

Sounds like a nightmare for all those people who have every possible garage in the game filled with cars. 

I rly wonder what happens with the order of your personal aircrafts? Are they in random order now? But they have different sizes so its not that easy... Or maybe aircraft are now in a random car garage instead?  I remember people used to glitch aircrafts to store them inside MOC. I wouldn't be surprise if something like that happens now.

Good to see you guys get your stuff back.  Apparently they fixed that faster than expected.

Aside from the vehicles being moved around, the only changes I've noticed were the spawn point being reset, and my organizations name being reverted back to An Organization. Bunker progress, airfreight crates, and Doomsday Heist progress were all unchanged.

yeah  i´m happy for those who got their stuff back as well ! and R* did react fast this time !

I´m just curious what have caused all this, and why some were affected and some not ... was it some damaged spots on the server´s drives so that they had to refer back to the backup or what ?

The issue resulting in GTA Online for PC vehicles, weapons and properties not displaying in character inventories is now resolved. Please restart your game and sign in again for these items to display correctly.

Seems fixed, but i wont be 100% sure until i spend an entire f-ing saturday sorting my 20 garages, because while most seems to be there its weird to me how some of the re-sorted garages have empty spots in them/not all of them are filled to their max. Im also pretty sure i only had like 12 spots open and now my last 2 garages are completely empty (so 20 open spots?) and then some garages are not all the way filled up.

And whats kinda weird is i have at least 1 vehicle im definitely not supposed to have, but i still have that, so its not like they used this opportunity to clean up some people's 'sketchy assets'.

ah darn it. Just finished the DO Event with my first character, logged off to check on the status of this new "Event".

I don't think so. The progress* I made with my second character while this 'thing' was going on wasn't reset.

 

*I did my daily objectives with my second character, which ranked me up. New rank is still there.

I checked one or two days ago and saw two vehicles listed under "Garage", the ones I used most recently.

 

Since then I've only been in single player but got the on-screen notification that I received the $500k.

 

Now it says: "Unable to retrieve personal vehicle details."

 

I only got one character but I'm not going online until there is some clarity on this issue.

An ingame console to move vehicles around would be great, im at about 60-70 and the sorting is ruined now.

I'm on console and a means to tell the Mechanic to move cars to different garages would be great - best workaround I've found (so far) is to stand outside the garage you're wanting to move something to and call the mechanic to bring the car you're wanting to move into there to you.

I was expecting this to be much worse.

People didn't really have their stuff deleted, but instead it was an issue with loading save data, i.e. a database issue on Rockstar's side. They fixed that issue or reverted to backup data.

Quickest way is probably to transfer vehicles between full garages, and using motorcycles to do so, which can be quickly called through the MC menu.

 

But some of the newer garages don't offer the option to transfer, so make sure it always says transfer/move on the game prompt.

They actually do, but they just say that the vehicle will have to be removed because . If you try to actually drive the car in, you'll have the option to move a vehicle to the other garage.

Hmm - so this sounds like that similar thing that went round a year or so ago, right down to cars being restored (mostly...), but in random garage spaces.

 

Can't find any of the old forum threads, though - can anyone remember when that happened?

Well I checked my characters today and weirdly enough everything is like I left it. No missing cars, no moved cars.

Seems like I dodged the bullet since I logged out right around the time the issue started.

Yeah I can also confirm, it was fixed.

The biggest issue is that now all my themed garages are not so "themed" anymore... its a total mess right now and fixing it would probably take hours so screw that.

But the worst part is that the same thing happened to my hangar. And sorting your aircrafts in the right order isn't as easy as you would think... the placement in your vehicle list seems completely random compered to your hangar and you need a goddamn spreadsheet to remember how it works...

Its just a theory but Its possible no one was maintaining the servers responsible for your cars and properties because of covid quarantine (they probably have a different server for secondary characters. That would explain why it mostly affected only those).

So the fix was as simple as rebooting it / loading a previous automated backup.

I was wondering myself but nah, vehicles that had their own special place like the facility Jetpack or Cerberus in Arena Warkshop stayed in the same place. My MC clubhouse was filled with random bikes, just like every other garage was filled with random cars. Hangar had planes in random order as well.

But for example oppressor mk2 was removed from Terrorbyte and placed in a regular garage. Same with the vehicle I had inside my MOC. So no, there was no weird glitches with "usual space" , no hunters in MOC or cars in MC garage. Nothing like that.

Also most of my Arena War vehicles landed in regular garages as well. But speaking of Sasquatch I don't remember seeing it... its possible I lost it but I would have to go and check just to be sure.

Played just fine 4 hrs ago. Did a bunker selling mission, i didn't notice any changes, just carried on with my game now reading all of this i am concerned about the items i posses.
