GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 4]

Bashing YouTubers and making the topic about it (or any other kind of antagonism) will net you a warning for derailing the topic.

Please use some common sense too while discussing subjects, don't delve too deep into speculating about people's personal lives (e.g. Houser departure from R*, Rockstar developers, etc.) as they deserve privacy and not a raging fan forum to make up things about them. Needless to say, any hate will be quickly nipped in the bud.

Is Jason reliable?

Yes, he knows the industry, he knows people, he takes his job seriously and doesn't half ass it.

Is GTA VI in early development?

Surely not, there's just no way.

Can you answer about the meaning of pinning the "soon" tweet?

Sorry I'm just worried.

It’s okay to be worried. You’re gonna get a lot of flack for it though because GTA fans outside of this site (and let’s face it, some gta fans here are toxic as well) will pounce on you for the slightest bit of skepticism. It’s gonna get worse once they officially announce it

I feel crunch is a necessary evil in this industry if developers are aiming to push the envelope and go above and beyond. You can’t really get that with a more relaxed and laid back  workplace.

I'm sure some guy mocked me a few weeks back when I said I wouldn't expect GTA6 until 2023 at the earliest. If it's only been in development for around 18 months, then it's years off.

I don't think its been in development for only 18 months at all, educated guess leads me to think years. 18 months global studio effort is more fitting.

If GTA 6 isn’t in development then yeah that’s it for the GTA franchise it’s dead on bricks.. might as well give the rights to EA

Rockstar Games are better than Ubisoft titles by "any measureable way" there is at our disposal. From Metacritic Scores, up to sales numbers and continued support, as well as user Reviews.

This is so bad but at least I won't have to buy a defective next-gen console. Thank you, Jason Schreier and Resetera. I love y'all.

Depends on how you look at it.

The Pyramids of Gizeh were built by an army of slaves.

Now, would I be considered immoral for arguing that R*s quality games might only be achieveable by modern slavery? Yes.

Might that still be the case? Perhaps.

Time will tell, whether better working conditions equate to better product quality, personally, I highly doubt it, if we go by example:
Developers like Ubisoft employ exceptional working conditions, but sub par products.

I disagree that the pyramids were built by slaves but I agree with basically everything else

How frickin prophetic was Rdr 2 storyline really! Not gonna spoil the Arthur Morgan storyline because you never know who played it but damn... The whole thing was pretty symbolic if you think about it.

In what way?

Ryan McAffrey literally posted an article saying it's in early development and that they only work on one game at a time now. I'd trust him and Schrier over speculation on this thread.

I wouldn't be too sure. If we assume that since RDR2, Rockstar gave people a little more time off instead of going straight into full development on GTA VI, then perhaps it's been in full development for just over a year. Would you still consider that early?

The 2017 leaks were likely during pre production. with full production beginning as RDR2 wrapped. Or rather it was due to begin. After the Kotaku exposé, they may have changed course.

And then they said they wanted to improve community relations 🤣, lying is not really a good method to do so but maybe we're all wrong and the next GTA really is in early devlopement, in this case i think that shooting in your foot would have the same result as only getting started on the next GTA...

This has happened in the past with GTA V. Rockstar are not always truthful with Games currently in development. Telling Kotaku "Early Development" just buys Rockstar more time. The only time we get to know what really went on behind the scenes is after the game's release.

All I have to say is if anyone truly believes that game studios have to crunch to make the greatest games you have the brain density of a mince pie.

Does anyone actually know when they started development of GTA VI?

its got to be earlier than 2014 because: https://www.instagram.com/p/weZqXagGio/

but most likely RDR2 stopped VI development completely

(all studios involved, writers making 100 hour weeks etc.)

There would of been skeleton teams years ago, they outsource as well. Sure still early development due to no crunch, but also could be a smokescreen.

The horror of typing up code for hours upon hours in a an airconditioned high tech office! Those poor poor babies ;_;

And there is a significant boost in overall quality and polish in Rockstar games compared to the output of other games companies. There’s a reason Rockstar is the best at what they do and why their games sell so well and get massive critical acclaim

Whoever is in favour of crunch time, I would like to see them work in those conditions themselves. They won't last a day.

Does Neil Druckmann, the VP at Naughty Dog, too?

Someone who worked years in the AAA gaming industry, producing the highest rated games on Playstation?

People you gotta remember whether you believe or not...

R* had said clearly 3 weeks prior to the announcement of GTA V that it was barely even developed and was just in the process of brainstorming, and then boom! 3 weeks later an announcement with a well made trailer.

How come that all game developers who aimed for Game Of the Year, or produce the highest rated critically acclaimed games, endure crunch, whereas those who do not, do not have the same level of quality and output?

The logic is sound, but the reality is very, very different. It makes sense to think if you work people harder you'll get more done and make a better game. But if you treat your employees terrible, they'll half ass their work and not be very productive. I certainly wouldn't be very productive if my overlords were treating me like sh*t.

They may work less, which theoretically means less content. But... who knows.
