I seriously hope that my theory that Dan departure was Zelnick's doing, which objective is turning R* into online games (read: GTAO and RDO updates) developer isn't true...

We'll have to wait and see, the single player part of RDR2 was good so I think it's too early to say they'll definitely just release MTX-filled GaaS from now on. There certainly are reasons to be worried but I have still hope that the SP part of GTA VI is not going to be neglected.

First one is understandable as you said.

 

2nd one is very reasonable for someone who worked at a company for over 20 years, has money, family and just wants a normal family life now. Of course we won't know the actual reasons as Dan is a very private person.

 

3rd one is also a no brainer considering they didn't update GTAV for current gen at all and they'll certainly continue to update GTAO in future, so an overhaul markes 100% sense. The Casino interior runs at like 15 frames per second on consoles.

RDR2 doesn't need any huge enhancement other than some visual upgrades and maybe an unlocked frame rate (I don't think it's gonna get Ray Tracing though).

 

So at the end of the day we don't know anything. Sam is still at Rockstar. (If anyone says Sam will depart later, that doesn't mean sh*t. The older guys will move on one way or another. It's just a matter of time.) And Rockstar's next couple of games will answer everything for us.

After the Zenimax deal everything is possible. CDPR is also cozy with MS but they're funded by Polish government to some extent, so I don't how that's gonna work out. MS has almost all westen RPG studios under them so they can go the extra mile and get Larian too. And If they can snatch one of the big three (Activision, EA and Take Two) it's gonna be a bloodbath and MS has the kind of money to make this move. Also I read somewhere about a potential Sega acquisition too.

 

MS ain't playing around that's for sure. They need a constant stream of first party content to fuel Game Pass, so more acquisitions is definitely coming.

If it keeps up with Rockstars pattern of each game being more ambitious than the last, I seriously doubt it will be able to run 60 FPS on console.
