I feel like this is all leading to Sony acquiring Rockstar any day now. And GTAVI will be exclusive unless them and microsoft come to a financial agreement

I just think somehow, some way, people always find a way to hope something will happen soon. This is just the latest version of that

what do they know about anything?

IIRC Sony already tried buying Rockstar/Take Two, the thing is they're much bigger now considering GTA V's sales. It sounds impossible, But timed exclusive? That sounds possible to me.

That seems more plausible. If they outright buy Rockstar from Take2 I see them putting down around ~$10b for them, which is not much more than what MS spent for Bethesda

I don't really think Microsoft or Sony can buy Take Two. Only because of NBA 2k. It would not be beneficial for the NBA to have their best selling video game exclusive to one console. It's what happened with MLB and MLB the show where it has been a Sony exclusive but now it's going multiplat in 2021 probably because the MLB stepped in.

Take Two and I think Rockstar as well have said a movie wouldn't work for GTA. The article also doesn't say where it got its source from.

 

IMO a TV show would work much much better.

I'm more scared of Microsoft buying CDPR they've had a great relationship and they announce their games at Microsoft shows. Cyberpunk 2077 was announced at Microsoft's show at E3 2018.

I think a kind of "GTA movie" would work (and I would love to see) that's set in the GTA universe, but has a plot and style that's nothing like the gameplay and story you have in the games, maybe not even have nothing to do with crime at all. Instead the film could basically explore and "establish" GTA lore further and advertise it beyond the gaming world.

 

I'm thinking films like; a person gets into Kifflom, big foot hunters from Red County, LS gang wars, mockumentaries about various happenings in San Andreas, etc.

 

But yes, a GTA gameplay styled movie, where you basically follow a single protagonist doing "GTA stuff" sounds dumb

Broken or not, that's just BGS. And even then, they're still good games. Hopefully this deal works out in their favour. But it's also DOOM, Dishonored, Prey, Wolfenstein... My word...

Bethesda makes good games but technical wise they are really, really outdated. It's enough to say, that they are making TES VI on 20 years old engine...

On the other hand they can strike a better deal with MS. They already did that once in the past
