GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 4]

Bashing YouTubers and making the topic about it (or any other kind of antagonism) will net you a warning for derailing the topic.

Please use some common sense too while discussing subjects, don't delve too deep into speculating about people's personal lives (e.g. Houser departure from R*, Rockstar developers, etc.) as they deserve privacy and not a raging fan forum to make up things about them. Needless to say, any hate will be quickly nipped in the bud.

I've seen this trailer for atleast 10 times today.

It's so perfect. This is how I want GTA VI's trailer to be. I personally wouldn't even mind the same song used in this trailer(Self control - Laura Branigan), cause it's so perfect and would suit the VI's trailer if it's in Vice city again.

Damn I can't stop watching this trailer.

Because people keep on posting stupid reddit "leaks" and the word has been thrown around way too casually as of recently.

I've seen plenty of alleged 'leaks'. 4chan has a bunch every now and then. I just don't bother posting them. I'm not adding to the madness.

You know, I’m starting not to care much for the whole nostalgic Miami vibe anymore. Which is crazy because that’s what I hoping VI would be at first. I really want LC back. But even NYC doesn’t feel like NYC anymore

The juxtaposition of having both would be great! Like going from GTA III to Vice City. Would make the gameplay different depending on what location you were in.

Is it possible that Rockstar could announce, reveal and release GTA VI all in a 6 month period?

I truly can't give credit to the fact that are people that believes that GTA VI is in "early development" just because Jason said it (or with the implications they think). It just does not make ANY sense at all. I would bet my both kidneys to the FACT that they've been working in VI since, at the very minimum, 2014, but probably 2013 and even before the first release of V.

The "Early Development" statement could mean many things, but none of them are that they hadn't start working on VI until 2017/2018, nor than it was a "relegated project" that only got full attention until that moment. What it can REALLY mean is:

~He's lying for some unknown reason.
~He's lying because his sources are incorrect.
~He's lying because he misunderstood his sources.
~He was heavily (and fairly) misunderstood, because he did a very poor word choice.
~He's lying because he was told to do so by the Rockstar Marketing team themselves in order to divert attention to the fact that they should have a product to deliver by now, and they don't. Maybe they just want to release all the pressure and continue to taking all the time they need, while also surprise everyone when they're ready to show something. (Yeah I know this one sounds pretty conspiranoic, but it stills makes 1000x more sense than thinking they parked their main franchise for 5 years).
~The game development was resetted once or multiple times because of technical difficulties and maybe the whole game concept or technology basis were debunked several times changing dramatically the roadmap, design plan ang game flowchart. Which basically means that whatever they had worked on 2015 has very little to do with the current project so his statement is technically true.
~The game is so complex that it might be ready for 2028, which technically speaking led us to an "early stage" of the development since we would be in the first 7 years of a total of 15 (first 50%). - but that would contradict with his very own expected release timeframe.
~I can't come across with any other option.

Just remember that by the time GTAV was released, Rockstar had around 900 employeees around several studios, and, for instance, in 2011, they were working simultaneously on:
~GTAV.
~Max Payne 3.
~Supporting Team Bondi with LA Noire.
~Red Dead Redemption 2.
~Supporting War Drum Studios with GTA Mobile Ports.
~Probably working on some other project like Agent or Bully 2.

Now they have over 3000.

Maybe not all of them have the same level of importance and are in absolute "full production", but remember that at least we know that RDR2 was in full development all the time since the very beginning (2010-2018, almost after the first Redemption was finished). Remember they are a company that must stay productive ALL the time. A game being announced a couple of years before its release doesn't imply it couldn't have been being made a decade before that announcement. In the case of Rockstar, and talking about projects that they have very clearly in mind (both creatively and commercially speaking, like GTA and Red Dead), it's pretty obvious that they want to give their teams as much time as possible. Maybe they give them vacations for three weeks and immediatly after that they move forward to start looking and working on the next big thing. They've done that always, and other companies like Ubisoft actually reuse so many assets and mechanics and have so many teams working on the same franchise at the same time, that it could be said that many of their games start development way before the latest installment of the series is actually in the market.
Plus, they have always given priority to GTA series, not only because it's by far their most redituable IP, but also because it's clear for many of us that it's certainly what they can do best, and what they are more passionate about while making (excluding Red Dead Redemption, which I think it is their pinnacle of their trajectory).

Oh, well, another option: they tried to start developing VI without Leslie Benzies for a month or two and that quickly they realized they can't really embark on suck an endeavour without someone like him, let alone finish it properly, so they took all these years to put their sh*t together, find a substitute and figure out what exactly to do with the new key members.

Imagine there's only one thing you want: The announcement of the next GTA. And then finally, after years of waiting, they announce it! And then say nothing for a full year, minus a handful of screenshots.

2011 - October: Announcement

2011 - November: Trailer 8 days later.

2011 - December: Nothing

2012 - January: Nothing

2012 - February: Nothing

2012 - March: Nothing

2012 - April: Nothing

2012 - May: Nothing

2012 - June: Nothing

2012 - July: 2 screenshots

2012 - August: 10 total screenshots, Transport, Leisure & Business

2012 - September: Nothing

2012 - October: GTA V announced for Game Informer's December cover, New Artwork: Pest Control, GTA V announced for Spring 2013 release

2012 - November: Hurricane Sandy delays second Trailer, Game Informer's Cover Story released and previews across other sites, Trailer 2 released

2012 - December: Nothing

2013 - January: Box Art reveal later this month, 31st January, No box art revealed. Game delayed to September 17th 2013.

At that point it was small stuff until the marketing cycle began in around April 2013.

Haha! Awesome job. I remember perfectly that timeline, and believe it or not, those events are the main key points in my life within those years, and the ones that I remember the most.

It was horrible at the time. But looking back, it left is eager, wanting more. And that made it more special. I hope everyone is prepared for a repeat of this for GTA VI!

I agree. But I'm certainly not prepared to experience it again!

I specially remember the August 2012 screenshots (first half of 2012 was almost completely dedicated to Max Payne 3 marketing-wise, and I remember people theorizing very angry they had only teased GTAV at that moment in order to attract people to their Newswire and help the marketing campaign of MP3, which it might actually had been the case). After the heli and Mirror Park screenshots, they unexpectedly celebrated the "Business. Leisure. Transport" screenshots week. I remember each of those articles in their Newswire had +30,000 comments, which it's a lot by the standards of any blog, specially those days. And the Friday the only thing they said was: "we will have more to show you in a few weeks or so". And then that turned into almost an omnipresent meme within the community at that time. Someone even made a song on that phrase! Anybody remember?

And then the January 2013 events: they had promised that they'd reveal the cover that month, so in the last day everyone was waiting for it, but not only they didn't reveal the cover on the 31st, but they used that day to announce the nearly 4-months delay of the game itself.

But at least the rest of the campaign was truly enojable, specially the "Sunsets, Seas, Skies and So On" set of screens and the week of the Gameplay Trailer.

After GTA V, and then RDR2 on top, you really should be prepared. But hey, it'll be fun. We'll all be here desperately analyzing every pixel of each screenshot, or frame from the trailer for a good few months at a time 😂

"Max Gayne 3"  "In a few weeks or so" "Soon" Gives me PTSD...

I still think Summer of 2013 was one of the best in recent memory. At least in terms of gaming. All the GTA V updates, gameplay trailer, website unlocking in parts, The Epsilon Program Twitter, even Achievement Hunter's GTA IV Let's Plays, and back when Vive was still a thing.

Good times....

That wasn't even a trailer, not really. It was an announcement using stock footage because the game just wasn't ready to be shown yet. And yes, I'm kinda' being sarcastic lol. But seriously, it was the best they could do with zero footage to share, when they were seemingly forced to make the announcement in a video presentation.

We can obviously receive calls, but as it’s in the 80’s we have no caller ID so we don’t know who it is until they talk.

For making calls I wonder how they will do, I assume we can have certain  contacts on speed dial and when hovering over 1, in the top right of the screen it will say who it is you will call.

This would be given 9 speed dial contacts, but maybe we can “write” all new contact numbers down and once selected from our “contact book” it will automatically type and call them.

Yeah. I actually had the light house Epsilon screen saver on my laptop, with the iconic music. I think I heard that sound for like +10 hours every day for more than three months. I remember listening it one day during an important exam at my University because I forgot to completely shut off my PC.

I think it would just work like the cellphone in san andreas, you get calls in certain moments but can't interact with the phone,or maybe you can use it for cheats like gta 4 and call certain numbers for easter eggs

Different era, different Rockstar, different times - nobody knows what they have in store or how they'll go about things.

For the record I was here for the infamous drought of 2011/12 and have been playing GTA since '97 - it's unclear why users like yourself attempt to take a higher ground over others because you've experienced said droughts before and they presumably haven't - like thats some kind of f*cking achievement.

Btw, we just surpassed the 2000 pages between the 4 parts of spectulation thread. That's 60,000 messages!

In comparison, this is the entire Watch Dogs Legion Official Forum since more than one year ago:

I consider myself a Watch Dogs fan for the first game, but I won't get tired of saying that they're definitely doing something wrong.
