I’ve thought more and more recently that Rockstar could capture that 80s feeling with sound wave and 80s radio stations rather than just setting it there. I’d still prefer it set in the 80s, but I think could still capture a similar theme in the modern day with the right soundtrack.

Honestly, I really don't care when it's set. I like both. I'd much prefer it in the 80's for the full effect, but I'll happily take any setting, 80's or modern.

You have to post the direct link, that ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, etc...

Just for the sake of speculation in regards to the synth wave rumors whether true or not. I really hope they contacted Miami Nights 1984. They make some great music, the beat just hits it. Although its the new wave compared to the old new wave I think its a bit better because of the range they have now. But still there is something deeply cool about the first gen new wave.

I have a sort of wild theory, Rockstar will set GTA6 story mode in 70s or 80s but when porting the GTA6 map to standalone GTAO (I'm pretty sure they'll do map expansions in future honestly) they'll make some changes and set it in modern era to continue the existing online timeline. It's probably a difficult task but Rockstar could do it.

Or conversely just set everything in modern era. That's more likely in my opinion.

So what do we know then people? anything new at all? I can't us getting a GTA VI reveal for years now it since GTA Online will be on PS5 by this time next year i'd say will see easy another 2 years of updates on that platform

Standalone GTAO will last another decade probably. They'll add maps, content anything they can muster. It's the only reasonable argument on why they're separating GTAO from GTAV at this point it's life cycle.

I think people are missing the point with "standalone GTA Online" It's no different that what already exists. You just wouldn't have to buy GTA V/VI to play GTA Online. That's what standalone means. It's just Online, no single player. Likely F2P, no paywall = players more likely to spend on microtransactions. They aren't separating it. They're just making it available to those that want to just play Online.

It doesn't make sense why they'd do this only for next gen tbh. If they separated it back in 2018-'19 then I'd be more inclined to agree. 

I believe Rockstar knows very well they can't reproduce the same level of juggernaut that GTAO is starting from scratch. So they'll just keep the train rolling.

If R* really wants to sell us GTA V again I don't see how it would make sense for them to announce GTA VI for now.

The point is GTA Online having a standalone option doesn't mean it will be expanding. GTA Online expanding was a given. It was always going to happen. People seem to be taking that (standalone version) to mean more than it actually does. It's just a different way to play it.

R* splashed the water with V and created a wave, which it continues to ride on until it wanes. Then they will splash the water with VI. I think they were making VI, but Covid-19 stopped them from doing that. I think they start again when Covid-19 has waned in Britain.
