GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 4]

Bashing YouTubers and making the topic about it (or any other kind of antagonism) will net you a warning for derailing the topic.

Please use some common sense too while discussing subjects, don't delve too deep into speculating about people's personal lives (e.g. Houser departure from R*, Rockstar developers, etc.) as they deserve privacy and not a raging fan forum to make up things about them. Needless to say, any hate will be quickly nipped in the bud.

 At this rate, they shall even port the game to Android/iOS.

That would be hard to imagine for me imo the same for IV. There's too many controls for it to work. Playing it on a phone would be like driving a manual transmission irl. Also online would be a mess lol.

Yes, probably a lot of on-screen buttons. Back in the day, I couldn't imagine them porting San Andreas because of all the features and controls. But they did it anyway. Something tells me they will do it, just to delay another title even further (if it comes to it LMAO).

If GTA Online standalone is going to be free for PS5 subscribers for the first three months only. Does this mean that it is going to be a subscription based game?

Lets hope not. I got that impression too.

It's intentionally vague. It can mean GTAO standalone is not free to play and it's an one time purchase. PS5 players will basically have it free to play for 3 months.

Or they can go Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls Online mode and add a subscription in it.

Whatever they do, the game will be playable without subscriptions imo. Subs will provide advantage to those who bought it for sure but not in a way to completely lean the game in their favor.

And if this, separating online from SP means quicker SP games, at least how I interprete the situation anyway, Strauss wanting both pieces of pie - Continuos online revenue and quicker SP releases for even more profit.

Friendly reminder: just because Rockstar plans to keep expanding GTA Online in the future (past 2021) doesn't mean that they can't start advertising GTA VI. Instead, they can use the huge playerbase and community of GTA Online to boost sales and excitement some more, by doing initiatives such as cross-game unlocks (i.e. if you do a treasure hunt mission in GTA Online right now, you unlock the Double Action Revolver, which you can then get for free in RDR2). We won't have to wait until they stop updating GTA Online for us to see the first trailer of GTA VI. Instead, I think we will see that as soon as 2021. GTA V for next gen is coming "in the second half of 2021", so if it all goes well we're talking summer/early fall. So then a late fall/early winter GTA VI announcement would fit right in, all while GTA Online gets its last updates before a release date of let's say 2023 for 6

That's exactly what it is. Look how many people who say "Rockstar won't make GTA VI until GTA V stops selling".

For me it seems (It’s obvious) that they want to port GTA Online in a new engine. It’s clear that they’ve been working on GTA   6 and the engine has sustained a lot of improvements since RDR 2 (just compare RDR 2 to GTA 5, if you look close enough, the difference is staggering).

From my previous post I made a mistake, stating that GTA V engine versions supports improvements. It does, but not in  an improving the mechanics and improving the player capacity way (100+ players or more on the same server). Adding a new physics systems means rebalancing the whole game. This will take a lot of time (1.5 years 😉 ). Some of you stated that there are a lot of scripts running in GTAO, so the whole code is bloated by now, it needs redoing to increase performance.

My intuition tells me that they are rebalancing (And rewriting code) the current GTAO in the new Engine version (they are building the foundation for it).
Why? Well, for future updates of course. If they will be doing this, they can port whatever map and mechanics from GTA 6 in an instant. So GTAO will be it’s own game. Singleplayer will be standalone, because they proved that an online game needs a more arcade style to it, and people push a balance of realism and arcade for singleplayer. That’s why I think that singleplayer and multyplayer will have slightly tweaked mechanics, that’s why they want to separate them.

Conclusion:

- they have the latest engine which will serve as foundation for GTA 6 (early development, but the hard part is finished, smooth ride from here);

-they are porting GTAO to it right now;

- GTA 6 (singleplayer) announcement may come at the end of 2021and release in 2023. I would even consider that it can come at the end of 2022. If you treat online separately, testing and QA will take a shorter time. As for singleplayer, they probably have the setting, story and a big chunk of motion capture already completed.

-this is just speculation, so feel free to intervene and improve/ disprove my statement. I just try to find fitting justification to  “defend” the s*it that they’ve just pulled, as I believe that Rockstar is not stupid or shallow, just greedy.

I'd love to say that this is exactly what TakeTwo/Rockstar has done like 2 weeks before they announced V, but who is this and why should we believe him?

My theory in my head is that T2 only brings the Mafia series out when we aren't getting anything from R* or we are getting a R* announcement soon but the game is far away. Mafia is the only other title in their library that they have that is closely related to GTA in that they're both now open world crime games (Mafia 1 and 2 weren't). It's what happened back in 2016 just after Mafia 3 released RDR2 gets announced a week or two later. Maybe after Mafia Definitive edition gets released R* announces something but I doubt it.

Yes they knew the release date of PS5 in 2013. C'mon this is just a coincidence.

PS5* lol But yeah. These doors have been known for the past 7 years, almost. And I still think it's nothing more than coincidence. At least the 2021 door. No way they could predict any kind of release that far ahead. Ballpark for something, maybe. But to know that GTA Online would take off the way it did, leading to a PS5 release? No chance. At best it was a rough guesstimate for their next GTA, but whatever it is people will say it means whatever happens in 2021. a year ago and beyond EVERYBODY knew it meant GTA VI's release year. Now EVERYBODY knows it means GTA V on PS5. Funny how the meaning of it changes to suit the current reality.

I remember an interview I think it was Dan Houser in 2013 with polygon that talked about what they were doing after V he said that they didn't really know and might not do anything. So I guess he was telling the truth back then they really didn't do anything.

https://www.polygon.com/2013/9/16/4736274/dan-houser-on-grand-theft-auto-5s-relevancy-and-future

Quote

"I do not know what the future of anything is aside from the next few days and then Oct. 1," he said. "At some point in the next weeks and months, [lead producer Leslie Benzies and artist Aaron Garbut and co-founder Sam Houser] and myself will have to actually think about what we're doing next, and if we're going to do anything. You know, maybe we'll go ‘Well it's enough now.' But hopefully ... we'll see."

You can't really take his word at face value. Usually they avoid saying anything specific about the future

Be funny if on PS5 they add in a couple extra doors 2022, 2023, 2024, etc on purpose. As many doors as possible that can fit and not look weird lol.
