It's clear why they are porting the game to PS5, because there are too many players playing it. They can't stop supporting it right now. No chance.

Now that I had some time to think this through I think I know where this is all going.

 

Rockstar always picks their words wisely and I don't think this time is an exception.

 

I think that "Expanded" could very well refer to a Map Expansion.

We alredy got all sorts of updates in Online that cover a huge variety of activities and offer diferent ways to play the game. The only thing holding back Online from evolving even further is that all these added activities and features are bound to be taking place in the same old and tired setting.

A map expansion would also make a lot more sense as an exclusive next gen content than just a few new contract missions that could've been made available on old gen without any problems anyway. 

Online is the sole reason why GTA V is now the second best selling game in history and the most profitable entertainment product of all time.

It is here to stay and we can only expect it to be expanded even further in all possible directions.

It will likely be at the price of a completely new GTA game but it will be much cheaper and faster to develop and no doubt extremely profitable for T2 and R*.

 

Don't get me wrong this isn't the direction I'd like to see things go but announcing it in second half/late 2021 and making Online free means they are trying to greatly expand the player base and I don't see why they would do that if they weren't investing in the current GTA Online for the long term. I don't see too many reasons why they would NEED to move to GTA Online V2 (GTA6) when they've just expanded and invested in the current more profitable than ever before version.

 

PS: We are all dying for a new setting and I have a hunch this is what we are going to get just not in the shape we were expecting it or hoped for it to be.

Anyways, announcement videos for GTA V PS5 seem to get a bit of backlash on youtube, haven't seen that before with Rockstar games ( Don't really remember really ) so I wonder will they respond or keep themselves silent.

Backlash is not so big. They would respond if there are more dislikes than likes (remember Steam review fiasco).

No, the exclusive features and expansions are in addition to regular GTAO updates according to Rockstar's post.

At the moment of writing the Gamespot trailer has 1.6 K likes and 3.1 K dislikes. Probably steam review bombing will start soon.

My theory is there's no GTAO2 coming with GTA6 - just a huge update (graphics, new map etc.) to GTAO at the time of GTA6 release. Making GTAO standalone on next-gen consoles might be a proof for that. And if that's the case, maybe it's not that bad? Maybe we're closer to GTA6 than 2027?

I doubt, I think GTA6 is in very early pre-production, like Schreier said, and we won't see anything until PS6.

You know what I find most depressing about this whole miserable fiasco?

Conclusion 

Gta 6 is at least 3 years away. Not necessarily bad, they will get adapted to next gen tech. Maybe they can surprise us like we were with GTA 4 (jump in generations)

 guys please calm down, relax and try to understand why rockstar did this. current gen consoles reached its technical limitation and rockstar wants to continue the support for gta online so they are re-releasing gta online as standalone for next gen. they might add new content for gta 5 and give console players 60fps. it could also mean more content for online since loading screens are going to be less. and gta 5 has lots of loading screens.
