Bashing YouTubers and making the topic about it (or any other kind of antagonism) will net you a warning for derailing the topic.

Please use some common sense too while discussing subjects, don't delve too deep into speculating about people's personal lives (e.g. Houser departure from R*, Rockstar developers, etc.) as they deserve privacy and not a raging fan forum to make up things about them. Needless to say, any hate will be quickly nipped in the bud.

I'd argue Battlefields popularity exploded on PS3/360, actually. In terms of consoles. It's always, and always will be a PC game. But it was Battlefield 3 which launched the series to where it is today. You could even argue it was Battlefield: Bad Company 2 that really set it up. The PS3/360 versions were significantly reduced in terms of player count, map sizes, etc. But that's still where it got popular.

Fair, I always forget about Bad Company for some reason.

I just distinctly remembering Battlefield 3 on consoles being a pile of poo my self. But Bad Company was big on consoles back then, Battlefield 4 though was a huge game in it's heyday on PS4, and I believe Battlefield 1 was the best selling BF game on consoles to date? Might be wrong.

But I’m sure that the only time that you have felt the need to mention that they’re not the only group is when the focus is on that group.

You sir have a problem. You should try to fix it. Or better yet tell us more about how “evil sh*t happens everyday”. “Smart speculation” lmao

Compared to PC? Well, 30fps, with frequent dips. 24 players, instead of 64, and maps like Caspian Border only having 4 capture points vs 5 on PC. I guess it was, but back then in 2011, I was only 21. And PC gaming was still kinda' new to me. I didn't really care about frame rates and resolutions. I just played BC2 in 2010, and then BF3 in 2011. And had hundreds of hours of fun! There was nothing else like it at the time.

Which goes back to the original point. Does GTA Online have a competitor, or does it need one? I don't even know who could attempt it. And of the very few who could, would they even succeed? I'm not sure they could.

I don't think anyone would like a carbon copy of GTA anyways. That is the exact reason why I mentioned bf vs cod. They are based on same idea but with different gameplay mechanics.

Because there is no worthy competitor for R* yet. R* now is just trying to make their games better than the last one. However with a strong competitors you also need to make it better than the other ones in the market

Is there a thread in off topic or anything where we can discuss it?

I’m sorry but that is an absolutely ridiculous statement. I actually think you need to apologise to whoever that was aimed at.

He shouldn't apologize for the truth.

Does Michael Mann still do movies/tv shows? His filmography is filled with classics!

His most recent film was Blackhat in 2015 and his last TV show was Luck back in 2011. I love Michael Mann he's one of my favorite directors but some of his recent work isn't that good. His last good film imo was Collateral that came out in 2004.

I still wonder how Miami Vice (The TV show not the movie) would have been if he didn't leave after Season 2 to work on Crime Story.

I mean, Call of Duty has never competed with BF lol. Battlefield is large scale land, sea, air and infantry combat where as CoD's bread and butter is small team infantry combat. Very different shooters despite often being set in the same time periods. Call of Duty also exploded in popularity on last gen consoles where as Battlefield's popularity on consoles only really arrived with the current gen consoles as the 360/PS3 weren't capable of handling the player counts.

But anyway, I dunno what good "competition" would do a Rockstar game tbh. They do what they wanna do, I don't think we'd see something like more interiors in GTA just cause there was some competition. It's not like they've not had some form of competition in the past either.

“Competition“ would do for R* what it does for everyone in the business of innovation. It would create pressure and drive more innovation. Or cause them to fail to a more worthy opponent. I love R* too but they don’t simply “do what they want to do”, they are unique, but they do what will make money and keep them in business as well.

So, if there was a worthy competitor to GTA and they were incorporating things into their game that GTA lacked and were not far behind GTA in sales or maybe even surpassing them, you would see what R*’s response would be. And I doubt they would just continue on like they didn’t exist.

To add, Saints Row was released in 06 and for a little while the consensus was that it was “more fun” than GTA, but it was wacky, so in 08 when IV is released they push the envelope in “realism”, which is why some of us love it until this day. Not saying that that alone is why R* did it, but they did and SR couldn’t keep up.

Are you actually for real? Just think about what your saying. To make a lazy blanket statement like that about everyone who disagrees with what Rockstar are doing is just insulting. But whatever. I’ve said my piece. I’ll stop there.

This is all I'll say on the matter. But attitudes like these are basically saying "Hey I know black people are being racially abused, and being killed, but I don't care, video games are more important to me."

A lot of people showing what little they care for people, recently.

Couldn’t have put this any better myself. Thank you.

Remember the episode when Bill Russell (NBA Hall of Famer/Legend) shot Kramer (Seinfeld)? lol

Not hard to believe that some people feel like that but fine, if it doesn’t concern you it you don’t care, fair enough. But constantly complaining or moaning because you can’t get game news (which wasn’t coming anyway) or playing GTAO (which half of us complain about on a daily basis) because a company is standing up by allowing what they feel is a bigger issue to have the floor is just in really really bad taste.

But selfishness brings out the absolute worst in people.

They already do pull from other games in some capacity. RDR2 leaks talked about Skyrim-esque stuff and the like.

Competition is good of course, the sorry state of the sports games genre sums up why it's good, but with Rockstar stuff they are where they are through doing their own thing, where as shooters compete directly in terms of playerbase and sales, sports games compete directly the same way, but open world games (sandboxes, RPG's, whatever) don't really compete in the same way.

Or to put it another way, Cyberpunk, which a lot of people on this forum have stated is competition for Rockstar, won't impact Rockstar's success in any shape or form. Saints Row, Mafia, Assassin's Creed, anything, nothing impacts Rockstar's success, these games do not directly compete with them for sales due to their release dates being super spread out from each other. Rockstar release their games once every few years and once they set a date pretty much every other studio avoids that date like the plague. The only thing that can hurt Rockstar's future success is, well, them.

You and others need to think about what yall are saying. Rockstar is choosing to honor George Floyd in their own way. That statement is no more insulting than people having a problem with that because it is interfering with their gaming.

I've said my peace as well and will no longer engage.

Remember a while ago when I asked if anyone got Skyrim vibes when playing RDR2? hehe, yeah, this is where it was born from. 😁

(Yes I know it doesn't play or feel the same, but the general sense of exploring, finding environmental storytelling, and in similar biomes just made me feel like that's exactly what they were going for)

There were a bunch of GTA competitors back in the 2000's. Unfortunately a lot of them were either very buggy and glitchy or they were Niche games.

QP3PSYN.jpg

Like True crime where you played as a cop. A brilliant idea at the time it just didn't stick around or get as popular as GTA all the glitches and bugs those games had also didn't help.

Saints Row was probably the only series that came close to giving R* a run for their money. Saints Row 2 really attracted a lot of people who didn't like the direction of GTA IV.

There are still things that Saints Row does to this day that are miles ahead of R* and I wish R* would incorporate in GTA. In Saints Row you could use an MP3 player and listen to music when you're walking. They had drive-thrus which would have been amazing in V since we didn't have interiors for burger shots and other fast food places.

I liked both GTA IV and SR2 for different reasons, while I hold GTA IV in much higher regards, I think SR series did stuff that worked for them aswell, and both franchises took ideas of eachother (especially with GTA Online DLCs).
I always preffered the world, the physics (car and ragdoll), and stories of GTA over SR, though the customisability of SR was a huge plus my biggest let down of SR is the engine, it feels very dated hopefuly the next SR is more like a reboot with a brand new next gen engine, just like the leap between Renderware (i think that was the III era engine) to RAGE.
I feel like San Andreas was a mix of lots of gameplay elements including weird and silly things and dark and serious. and I think they tried to emulate that with GTA V but went further down the "less serious" path and personally I dont think that was a good choice. Im kinda glad the craziest stuff stayed on GTA Online.
I feel like games like SR and True Crime/Sleeping Dogs had good elements in them that made them fun, but the overall feels lacking with other elements, like driving, physics or as youve said with bugs and glitches.

What do you think Rockstar will do with the Moon and Sun in GTAVI? Make them big as they do every game, or real size?

Maybe they want to change their old logo, and put  a new one, doesn't need to be connected to rockstar games.
