RDR2 happened, and again, who knows what "early in development" really means at R*. They might've been working on the tech side of things, and plans must've changed a lot seeing GTA Online's success. Not getting a new GTA title this entire generation kind of proves it imo.

 

Whatever it is they have in store for GTA Next needs to be future-proofed for the remainder of the next generation (unfortunately?).

I am sorry, I have not read all the comments on this thread, but I have a few unpopular speculations about the next GTA title. 1st, I don't think it WILL be GTA VI. since GTA V was the last title, never before has a numbered GTA title been released back to back.  also it could be released for VR much like the Half-Life title Alyx. which is meant to predate Half-Life 3. I would very much like to experience that, but I would have to settle for watching Youtube videos.    GTA in VR would be something to see for sure. and I think all the next gen AA games are eventually going there.

I feel like if we're waiting 10 years between titles it has to be numbered.

 

If some of the ideas from the rumours we've heard end up true such as a game taking place through multiple decades or a world that expands through updates over the years. Either one would be a big enough change to warrant a numbered title in my eyes.

 

Imagine we switch characters like in GTAV but this time you see the world reverse or fast forward morphing through the years to take us back to the time where that particular protagonist story takes place. That would really cool.

I want that to happen so bad lol. Could have a godfather 2 scenario play out. 2 or 3 characters from different times and you see their stories play out in a non linear way as you jump backwards and forward constantly.

There’s no way they would have just now started working on VI within the last couple years. That’s complete nonsense.

I hope that we get more legitimate businesses. I would love to have something like a trucking company with a fleet of trucks and where we can run the day to day operations if we wanted to.

I'd love to see in VI antagonist that messes with you from the start and during the progression of the game similary like Tenpenny in San Andreas.

At the time I guess it was good but completely overshadowed by GTA. It was apparently going to come out in 2000 a year before GTA3 but got delayed. I wish it would return we need another open world crime game. Saints Row went to crazy land, Watch dogs is about hacking, idk what's going on with Mafia. All the other open world crime games have just disappeared. Not only is The Getaway a crime game but it's in London a setting that hasn't been used a lot in open world games (Aside from WDL whenever that comes out) if Sony wants to give R* money and R* doesn't do anything at all like that RDR2 deal they should bring back the Getaway and make it their big "GTA" like title

Nah that would be boring. I'd rather own a garbage truck company and sell heroin on those routes. I'd also use it to intimidate shop owners to give me more money or I'll send them their garbage back.

How would it be boring? Of course it would involve the illegal aspects. I'm saying it would be a nice change of pace to at least appear legitimate for once.

I just googled the getaway. Turns out that team behind LA Noire is founded by former developers of the getaway
