Bashing YouTubers and making the topic about it (or any other kind of antagonism) will net you a warning for derailing the topic.

Please use some common sense too while discussing subjects, don't delve too deep into speculating about people's personal lives (e.g. Houser departure from R*, Rockstar developers, etc.) as they deserve privacy and not a raging fan forum to make up things about them. Needless to say, any hate will be quickly nipped in the bud.

Hi guys.

According to the latest info..

IMO, even in 2017 on neogaf Ash said that the next GTA was in pre production from 2012.
Yan’s x Fun’s words about the game is 70% done is almost right the same as Jason’s with “early development stages”. People just cannot to sum up the info.

If you remember, Rockstar announced GTAV in 2011, 2 years before release, with the words: we are proud to announce that our game is in full development. 2 years.
with the covid-19, release window for the next GTA is really between 2022 and 2023 now.

To sum up, I believe:

2012-2015 pre-production

2015-2020 early development

2021-2022/2023 full development

Sources I imagine he is not in contact with anymore, as he stated he wouldn't be leaking anything anymore. At Rockstars request.

Too bad Yan cannot say anything anymore regarding the game to put us on little bit of ease

True. The game will be designed to be expanded further with not only businesses, but with new lands, cities and even states.

GRANDHEIST

Did the same thing happened with RDR2, was the timeframe of spiked "committed marketing spend" correct even with delays?

cause that would further mean:

Spoiler

Planned delays

Just my thoughts, but perhaps Schreier is very defensive because he has confidence in what he's reported on.
This is someone who has had contact with multiple Rockstar Employees, in the recent months, that are likely working on GTA VI. Are there any other known sources with ties to Rockstar Employees that have refuted his claims? (Genuine question)
I think a lot of the hate to Schreier comes from people thinking "he's" delayed GTA VI. When in fact he's just the messenger and people's personal beliefs seem to clash against his reporting. There was some concerns with his definition of the word "early", but the way I see it is that the game is not past it's halfway cycle (let's say 2.5 years), so it's probably got at least another 3 years to go before it's released.
What he's tweeted today was, in my opinion, a mistake. This information is far too recent and flexible to make any concrete comments on. But I can't really fault the guy, being a journalist on twitter means you're open to criticism and he does read through the replies to see it, just turns out some of those replies involve slurs and unnecessary hatred that likely make him frustrated with this specific topic. Leading to why he was so quick to tweet today and call out those people.

Well that’s the thing he’s being overly defensive to the extent he’s mocking other people who he knows have sources. Maybe his info isn’t as watertight as he’s making out. I mean 10 years for a sequel is fairly ridiculous.

Yan himself stated he isn't leaking doesn't mean he isn't in contact with anyone.

216,3M for 90+ games? Sure, most of them small but anyway. V was around 137M alone.

Are they somehow legally required to release "true" numbers? Or could they simply exclude 150M for VI to not spoil an announcement?

I refuse to believe a release later than 2022. 😅

I think, that 2023 is like absolute worst case on Rockstar's roadmap and GTA VI marketing budget is not even considered in those filings.

Is R* even bound to publish via T2? They could try to carry all expenses but also collect all earnings by publishing on their own. I don't know if a Publisher gets a fixed cut of all profits (even after release like from online) but I could imagine that R* wants a better deal.

I'm not sure he knows anyone he's mocked has sources. Which is the same belief I have. Schreier should be seen as the more credible person in this in my opinion. He has not been approached by Rockstar to stop his leaks.
Yeah, 10 years is quite a shame. But it's just something that might need to be accepted. It sucks to think about, but just because it'll be 10 or even 11 years since GTA V's release, doesn't mean it'll be released earlier to avoid that.

Yes but there's uncertainty with this source, https://imgur.com/a/17mGNuj based off this statement, he's saying it's his personal beliefs. Anything other than that would be against what he agreed with Rockstar.

Rockstar is wholly owned by Take-Two. Take-Two doesn't even publish anything to begin with, Rockstar self publish their own titles, 2K publish theirs, Private Division, etc. Take-Two owns them all but they operate with a labels model, Rockstar being one of them, 2K another.

It's a pretty unique model for game publishers really, Rockstar have an unusual amount of independence for a studio entirely owned by a major publisher. Take-Two seems to leave them to their own devices and just cashes in the checks when Rockstar pump something out, albeit in recent years it's possible they've become more heavy fisted and pushed for things like monetisation and if rumours are to be believed faster development cycles as well. It's partly for this reason - Rockstar's unusual independence - that I'm not entirely convinced the numbers in that chart are at all related to Rockstar. Take-Two never gives anything away when it comes to Rockstar announcements really.

I would have looked at your face 3 years earlier..Would you say that too?

The most bizarre move in gaming history would be releasing the so-called GTA6 for current gen. They are not Ubisoft in any kind and that's the right way. Nextgen has unlimited technical opportunities compared to current gen. f*ck teraflops, custom SSD and heavily customized CPU for console gaming with advanced low-level graphics API, that's the real sh*t. No one needs such a huge title as the next GTA to be playable on current gen.

These numbers are for all Take Two projects within FY25, so whatever Rockstar is cooking is in it.

Here we can see they spent $46.5 million in FY2019, most of which was RDR2. I know Rockstar will go all out with GTA6 but 46 is significantly lower than 137 so I wonder how much they'll use for GTA6. I presume that $89 million can increase over time.

Smart speculation1

It looks like 2024-2025 at this point.  They will have another title before gta Vi and that is very disappointing.

If that had to be the case I wouldn't expect their before GTA VI title to be that big of a game, something like Rockstar presents Table Tennis two comes to mind for smaller / mini-games just to see how far they can push the next generation consoles.

I have my feelings it of course won't be a table tennis two but we don't know what Rockstar has in store.

Jason: on the f*cking phone with actual Rockstar developers as recently as this year, has maintained an impeccable record throughout the past decade, published numerous books regarding game development, been the target of antisemitism in the gaming community for years without saying a word.

Yan: he talk sh*t bout me 😡😡😡 bully 2 coming next wait nvm 😤 professional journlism is kil 😢

And the community rallies behind the latter. There's two things I'm looking forward to most in 2024: playing GTA 6 and laughing at everyone who said it was 70% done.

The link was to a post about the current rumors with Take-Two's marketing budget.

Well in him saying that he's suggesting VI will be released in the 2024 fiscal period - which IMO means a 2023 release - if that is indeed the case then his claims of the game being in early development were wrong, unless he either has his own special definition of that phrase or he gathered information on the games development progress back in 2015 or something and passed it as something he's been told recently - he didn't actually specify when he was told that information everyone just assumed.

But tbh if this new piece of information proves to be related to GTA VI then it shouldn't really a surprise, most people are predicting it will be released in 2023 so it kinda falls in with the theory of a 2021 announcement, followed by a delay which sees the game being released 2 years later in 2023.

Jason being on the phone doesnt mean anything especially since Rockstar employees know better than to discuss projects that are in development.

Ah, yes. I've always said the game is going to be released in 2025 or even 2027.

Or maybe they want Grand Theft Auto VI to be so perfect they will release it in 2032 for PlayStation 6.

Maybe it'll depend if Trump wins or not, given R*'s previous comments. 2020 timeline is already crazy enough without him going after a satirical videogame.

And the community rallies behind the latter. There's two things I'm looking forward to most in 2024: playing GTA 6 and laughing at everyone who said it was 70% done.

I mean to be fair the community rallied around the former when Schreier's Kotaku article was released. Lot of people, including my self, commented on his reputation and how he's typically well informed about this stuff.

His now deleted tweet seemed hasty tbh. He obviously got some grief from morons when that Kotaku article was released and I guess this was him jabbing back a bit but I'm guessing he took what he was retweeting at face value and didn't really look into it at all, and it just comes off as poor form from him overall.

Anyway, given Kirsty's article which goes into it in a bit more detail I'm genuinely inclined to double down on my speculative take from earlier, which is that those numbers aren't taking into account anything Rockstar related at all. I think once GTA VI is finally announced the next time we see that chart there will be a much bigger spike for one of the years, maybe indeed even 2023. It's not a crazy prediction given that 2020-2021 is highly unlikely and that they typically announce games 2 years before they actually release and as of yet it hasn't been announced.
