Mister Pink
Yeah, I don't think a single thread dedicated to each game would really last, so I might just make this a general skating game topic. I think I prefer the look of Session. It seems more realistic. Then he does a kick-flip it's the board spins fast. In Skater XL, the board moves unrealistically slow. You know kind of like seaguls in GTA IV. Ivan1997GTA 1 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿

I used to love playing the old Tony Hawk skate games so I might get this as it has a decent price tag of just $19.99. Mister Pink

I feel ya. Skate was/is great and I think simulation is where it's at now. I got the HD remake or re-release of TH, but yeah, it's too ridiculous. Was perfect in the context of 1997. But now it seems silly. Fun maybe, but a bit silly. On 4/14/2020 at 9:50 PM, EasyTiger said: Yeah session was delayed months ago and there's been no news since. Quote Crea-ture Studios took to Steam to give an update on Session, which is currently available in Early Access on PC (and 25% off now through February 26). The team said it's targeting a "spring" release window for Session on Xbox One, which places the launch of the skateboarding game between March 19 and June 20. Further, Crea-ture has teamed up with the "local experienced studio" Illogika to make a "dedicated team [to work] on the Xbox version" of Session. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/skateboarding-sim-session-is-back-on-board-for-xbo/1100-6473935/ Still hope. But we don't know if the virus that shall not be named is going to delay it further. At least if there were bugs and things that need to be fixed, we hopefully should get a finished Xbox version. Rhoda
Back in November, it was revealed by professional skater Lizzie Armanto that a new Tony Hawk Pro Skater game was in the works, albeit accidentally. Things remained quiet until last month when a band called The Death Set confirmed they had a handful of songs for the new "Tonky Hawk" game. Both leaks can be found here in the edited IGN article. I shouldn't be excited, considering what a bin fire THPS5 was. I just hope they've learned from their mistakes. Honestly, I would take a proper remaster of the original games at this point. My interest has been rekindled to the point I've ordered THPS3 and 4 to play again. Ivan1997GTA, Mister Pink and icecoldkilla1467

Daz
THPS Remaster: I am a bit worried. I haven't played a THPS game since Project 8 before the days of skate. Since then, I cannot accept that style of gameplay unless there is some form of semi-realistic mode. I don't mind it being arcadey and easy, but I just dont want the 50mph no pushing skateboarding with 10 point combos. In the last few games I used to disable settings to allow for slower movement and no auto push and there was a "disengage from grind" button to make grinds more realistic looking. But it just doesnt compare to skate. To be honest I would much rather have a HD version of Thrasher Skate and Destroy. I preferred that out of all of the PS1 games. Though I did obviously play the f*ck out of all THPS games, but I dont think I can go back. And the reason I am worried is because they have attempted this a few times before. We have had somewhat recent attempts (post skate 3) of trying to revive these classics and it just isn't the same. I would like a remaster, but not an entire remake. I know we will get some but probably not all of the original music. The maps already look nothing like how I remember them. I know its meant to be modern but I cant get a feel for it like I should. I will have to wait and see but I doubt it will spark anything in me. And at the end of the day I really just want a realistic skating game. Skater XL: So far I cannot find anything in the game that indicates it has any content whatsoever. I managed to do shove-its and some variations of shove-its + flips, so hardflips, inward heels, etc. Which did look nice, but really I couldn't easily do anything else. I think there are grinds and grabs but it feels like its barely a game right now. Session: It has improved quite a bit since I last played, their control scheme is probably one of the worst things in the f*cking world. Luckily they added a legacy scheme so it plays like skate did. It was unplayable for me using triggers to turn, that is just ridiculous and completely uneccessary. So I recommend changing these ASAP. It has a few maps and some customization. The main issue is you can clip and bail so easily which will cause you to ragdoll and it takes quite a bit of time to get back on the board, which can be annoying when it might happen a second or two after respawning. This happens the most when attempting to grind, which I feel rarely works properly and I am very surprised if I can land a grind without some sort of glitch or bail. Its good but needs work. In terms of other games that may exist or may come out. I am not entirely opposed to just straight up specific trick controls. That was the primary thing I loved about Thrasher. The trick was always going to come out the same, and it included in bs and fs flips into its own pre-designed trick. It is very hard to get certain tricks to look how they should when combined with a 180 in other games. What would be amazing is if a community could create the flip tricks via an editor then you just download and apply your favorite styled version of that particular trick. Either that or how I always wanted skate to be, was have multiple different skate styles you could apply, and each had its own style of a kickflip for example. And with a custom editor to choose your own specific version of each trick for your custom character. I probably have far too many specific requirements to what I want from a skating game. But we do need more skating games like skate. I am not entirely sure why we cant at the very least have all skate games released either on PC or re-released on console with some form of modding support or creation functions. Algonquin Assassin
Like most people I remember playing the classic Tony Hawk's games on PS1 back in the day. The funny thing is I was never into skateboarding, but I found those games extremely addicting. I kind of lost interest sometime around American Wasteland and haven't played a Tony Hawk game since. The last skateboarding game I played was Skate 3, but man I'm super pumped for the 1+2 remaster/remake. Hopefully it's a shot in the arm the franchise needs after the last few games (Especially 5) being rather lackluster.

Mister Pink
Well, this was nice timing. Just getting a mad craving for a skateboarding game and Skate 4 gets announced. Yeah, like Jason said, won't be for long time but they must have heard the demand. Couple of big enough YouTube channels covering the topic, seemed to be drumming up some renewed support for such a game. LL Cool L
so anyone here playing or played SKATER XL? I didnt like it at 1st, but damn, i love it now, cant wait for it to come to switch cos that would be perfect for me.... im much better at it than I was at skate 3 and landing tricks, combos and lines is sooo satisfying.... very good 4 a 1st attempt at a skateboarding game was bothered by lack of npcs, no walking off board and no story/ mission type things or online free play but the actual skating is great....I spent hours doing one sick line i found, even when I was landing consistently....and the big ramp level...so fun..looking forward to any possible future content... Daz
Yeah, FYI, Session is out on the Xbox One right now. Also more importantly, they finally added skate 1 to backwards compatibility, so far we only had skate 3 which was the least impressive of the 3 games. Imo skate. had the best map, and style when it came to how it played, it had better camera angels, smoother done tricks, better selection of clothing that looked good, miniramp skating worked way better. Something about the other 2 just didnt quite seem as good. Though the features skate 2 offered were really good such as getting off your board, etc. Skate 3 was a rush job and I hated the segmented map where you couldnt travel to all areas you had to fast travel to a new map. Skate 2 offered a lot of cool DLC maps and areas from the first game, as well as custom user made graphics for boards and tshirts, so I would love to see that game available on the Xbox one, but for now skate. is defo a nice thing to go back to having not played it in a long time. Anyone with an xbone, go grab it. Edited August 28, 2020 by Daz Mister Pink

Ivan1997GTA
So, there's a rumor going around that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, which is coming out tomorrow, will be getting online DRM, despite the entire game being on the disc. I seriously hope that isn't true. And if it is, I hope Activision will patch the DRM out eventually, just like Bethesda did with the last year's ports of DOOM and DOOM II. First, the COD: WWII online DRM, then the CTR: Nitro-Fueled microtransactions fiasco, and now this. Cutter De Blanc
I wanna know how the new old Tony Hawk game is before I decide to buy it Like, as long as its just as good as the the original thats fine but if they messed it up somehow, like no cheats or something that would suck EDIT: Too late decided to buy it when I saw they still have the create a park, downloading now, only 21 gigs, surprisingly small Edited September 4, 2020 by Cutter De Blanc
Cutter De Blanc
I'll say it first if no one else does, the creator modes suck ass. The character editor in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 was better than this, theres no weird clothes and everything is level locked. Also, it doesnt seem like you can create gaps in your create-a-park, which was my favorite part. The rest of the game is great, just like I remembered Edited September 5, 2020 by Cutter De Blanc

Daz
I have almost all the achievements in THPS, just need to do the hard "get-theres" and get level 100, the gaps were a bit of a pain, skate heaven sucked anus, it had a bunch of gaps that were glitchy or weird, 2 gaps named with the same name. A lot of weird ones that you feel defo should not have been gaps. A little disappointed overall. I guess I wanted more of the nostalgia than I wanted to really play it again, it does play well and is fine for the casual player that doesn't skate. But it offers me almost 0% enjoyment if I am playing it to skate realistically and do satisfying tricks. Skater XL is a bit better now that I have played it some. Its kind of weird though, same with Session. I feel like Session should work the best but the tricks are really quick and odd and don't pop very much, I am sure there are some settings but I can't find it as I play on legacy mode. You also bail off ANYTHING and it takes a good second to respawn from the ragdoll which can get annoying. Skater XL is a lot easier to play than Session at this current time. The control is a bit weird how it works but I can get used to it, it just doesnt really feel realistic at all. You can hold a flip trick forever so if you want to do a 720 shuvit down some stairs you can. I like that it is dynamic and you can do a different looking version of each trick depending on how you do it, but I personally dont think this is the way to go. You get this weird floaty glitch feel and it doesnt feel like skateboarding really. The Skate games still sh*t on both of these for how they play. I would rather have a few different skaters mo-cap some pre-made tricks so that when I do them, they look realistic and awesome, just set up a good control sceme to do them, similar to thrasher maybe. I wish that game had a HD remaster...
