LeeC22
@SummerFreeze I have no idea why but for some reason my mind decided to get me to finally add a missing component to this mod. It's not exactly major, it's just the file browser now handles key repeats for the navigation keys. The left and right keys made things easier but now you can hold a key as well. This isn't currently in the ini file, so the updated file only includes the dll file. Initial delay is 250ms but delays after that are half that, so it better mirrors the windows long-delay -> short-delay process. I did have another idea connected with this mod. I was recently in contact with someone I previously created mods with/for and they showed me how to set up servers and clients inside mods and applications. That means I could create a windows application that lets you load images and pick colours from them. It could then send those colours over to this mod and apply them as custom colours. It would have to do it when the GUI is closed... I think and it would also require a third-party dll to be added to your scripts folder, for TCP communications. Don't know how useful that would be, or if I would ever get round to making it. I just took advantage of a rare moment of inspiration and fixed a bug in another of my apps and add the missing functionality in this mod. If you haven't got the link for the file download anymore, let me know and I will pm it to you. SummerFreeze
SummerFreeze
Hey @LeeC22, nice to hear from you. I'm not regularly playing GTA right now (not until the December DLC), but I still create colors from time to time. I have your download link, so I will get the newest version. As for the new feature you mentioned, for me personally I wouldn't need it, because when I create a color, I simply have GTA in windowed mode and the template in a different window. But maybe if you do eventually decide to make the mod public, I can see that the feature would be useful for someone playing GTA in fullscreen mode. LeeC22
I spin the lucky wheel each day out of pure habit, that's about my limit with GTA. Although I am doing some Contact missions with a Buzzard on my Epic version as I have no businesses on there. It's about 8 missions I do once a day (until they're not 2x anyway) but I can do them without having to use a gun, so they're okay. I don't think this next DLC will change that for me because it's heists. Being a solo player and hating the heist concept, it doesn't really tick any boxes. Bit like the Casino heist but at least that had an Arcade, which was perfect for someone like me who used to manage real Retro Arcades back in the 1980s. I had that app idea but I can't convince myself it's a good idea. You'd need to turn off the "Pause on focus lost" option and you'd have to run the game in some kind of windowed mode as well. Alt+Tab-ing out of full-screen minimises the game window in Windows 7. Someone I used to mod with recently taught me how to use TCP communication between apps and mods, so I think I was just hunting for another idea to use it in. The main purpose of learning was a Tracker mod and app I have, that shows the player and game entities on a scrolling/zoom-able map in a windows app. It's interesting watching the world around the player evolve as you drive around but it also exposes just how few peds there are in the world. Anyway, the changes I made to the paint mod shouldn't cause any problems but if they do, let me know. One other thing I keep meaning to ask... I hate the name of this mod, don't know why I picked it... do you ever think about it being named something else? Same with the data folder as well... if you do, let me know and I can change it. SummerFreeze
The name right now is Custom HSL Setter, isn't it? Maybe: Free Color Picker or Free Color Picker (HSL).

I'd prefer it without the word Free in it if that's okay... just a bit of a developer stigma with Free implying there should be a Paid equivalent. Visual Studio would probably bork at anything with brackets in the name (unless you meant that part as being optional). Colour Picker HSL I like, it's far better than the current name that's for sure and it clearly describes it as a Colour Picker with a HSL basis. If you're okay with that, I'll get the project changed and send a new link. It has to be the same name to use the same Google Drive link. I frequently run out of imagination with project names and end up having to rename them... although my TestSomeStuff mod has escaped renaming so far. I thought "free" as in "breaking GTA's color restrictions". But I understand your point. I also can't come up with a different adjective. I thought maybe Easy but that's even more vague. Maybe Custom? Color/Colour Picker HSL should be good. LeeC22
LeeC22
There's a new link on its way but before I do that, I have to post something here. The mod is now called FreeColourPickerHSL and the reason it is called that, is because I asked you for a project name and then I changed what you gave me. That might seem insignificant but it isn't... if I ask you to name something, then I should honour what you choose, especially as this is your mod. The name you chose represents what you feel the mod does and that alone should have been important enough for me to change it to that without question. Even though I knew what you meant it to represent, I still used my personal issues to override it. There are things I get too hooked up on and the whole paid modding thing is a huge one. I only ever charged for something once, when Shareware was common on the PC and I got a programme onto a cover disc of a magazine (PC Format around Feb 1992 I think it was, they paid me £75 for getting on the coverdisc). I only charged £3 for registration but felt so guilty when the cheques arrived, I never cashed any of them... it just felt wrong. The real buzz was getting letters and cheques from around the world, from people using my programme, I even had one from someone in prison... and I still have them all in their envelopes. But in all the years I have been developing, I have only ever used the word Free once before in a project name and that was for a Freecam mod... it's definitely a bogey word. So to summarise: 1) The dll is now called FreeColourPickerHSL.dll 2) The data folder is now called FreeColourPickerHSL_Data 3) The ini file is called FreeColourPickerHSL.ini Just delete the old dll and add the new one, then rename the ini file and data folder and it should all still work. The zip file contains everything, just so you have a copy of the new build. SummerFreeze
SummerFreeze
If you don't want to have the "Free" in the name, then that's really alright with me. I have not downloaded the new files yet, so you can still change them. That's a cool story with the Shareware you developed. How did it work? Did people send you the money by mail and you responded to the letters with a code that unlocked the full program? LeeC22

The programme was already fully unlocked but registration back then was sometimes like donations might be considered nowadays. It was like saying a personal thank you for something you use. Some more commercially oriented software used to lock parts off, like Doom used to just let you play the first episode. In my case, had the programme ever been updated or enhanced in any way, the people who had registered would have been the ones to get the updated version. As it was, it was a simple app that didn't really have anywhere else to go. It let you create simple ASCII screens for DOS menus, you could copy & paste graphics, draw boxes, fill with colours, quite basic by today's standards. One person did ask for a custom display programme which I created for them, that was the other thing that registration got you, the ability to ask for something and get a reply or in that case, something extra. But for me, who had started in the games industry as an artist, it felt like a massive achievement getting cover-disc fame for writing a programme in assembler language. I still have the coverdisc although it probably doesn't work now. As for the mod name, the new name is fine... it will make it stand out and remind me of why it exists. MATEUSRF
@LeeC22hi man, all right? Is your HSL picker mod available for download? I really enjoyed the idea of creating real colors for gta v, and this tool would help a lot to make the paintings as close as possible. do you have any discord where we could talk? I would be grateful if you answered me. congratulations on the mod
