Euphoria Physics Appreciation Thread

post anything you like about the physics engine! it can be your appreciation for the engine's ability to create some insane moments, or how the engine was ahead of its time, or simply some funny moments. i'll post a video to get started

you're not a true IV fan if you haven't pushed pedestrains off the ledge at asparagus ave (near brucie's place) 😛

Sometimes I launch Grand Theft Auto IV just to drive around, listen to people's conversations and annoy them with my vehicle, sometimes I just drive around admiring the vehicle's physics.

Grand Theft Auto IV is so enjoyable, man.

I hate hate hate to turn this into a IV vs V debate but this video simply illustrates the quality of IV's euphoria best I feel

Not an expert in this but from my  understanding the player/peds seem to have a better sense of weight in IV and don't seem as floaty as the characters in V(as seen in the falling down the stairs comparison) , protagonist bailing out of a vehicle flops around more life like in IV , peds react to being pushed around, peds react more naturally to being slowly pushed around by a car etc

To not turn this entirely to a IV vs V debate here's another one focusing more on the shooting and ragdolls in general which are amazing, notice how Roman and the cop react to where they got shot

It really was ahead of its time

For me tossing a grenade or firing an RPG into a crowd of peds is one of the most satisfying things ever when they fly around in different directions.

Also all the different ways Niko can die. Never gets old. Euphoria is God.

Euphoria really is amazing. As much as I love it and Rockstar, it's a shame that they have a hold on it. Games as a whole could really benefit from the software.

GTA IV/RDR really had great physics, were ahead of their time. I hope it's ok to ask this here, but since I've not played RDR2, how does it's physics system (if that's the right word) compare? Is it the best yet? Or are it's predecessors better?

I could probably watch a comparison video but a) I'm too lazy and b) I want to know the opinion of those who have played it.

Personally I think RDR2 makes better use of Euphoria than RDR1 does.

It feels something between GTA IV and GTA V.

GTA IV's the most fun GTA for messing around because its physics are so awesome. I don't need jetpacks, jets, Rhinos etc.:D

HOW'S ANNIE?

One time I went out of my way to truly test the "randomness", so to speak, of IVs Euphoria engine.

I'd die. Respawn outside the hospital. I'd only scroll through the weapons to reach the stick bombs. Drop a sticky bomb. Still without moving Luis I'd detonate the sticky bomb. And you know what? No two death animations were exactly the same. Some would look similar, but your body would never hit the ground the exact same way in the same position twice. Like real life, the best examples of the Euphoria physics at work are really the 'in the moment' events.

Honestly wtf happened to gta 5? How did the physics end up being so downgraded compared to its predecessor? If it wasn't because of "console limitations" what the hell was it?

I've been trying hard to refrain from bashing GTA V like I used to, BUT when it comes to the physics it's still a sore point for me.

I don't know what happened between GTA IV and GTA V, but Euphoria feels pretty damn good in RDR2. Back to GTA V. Eh. It feels less like Euphoria to me and more like the "ragdoll" physics in Saints Row from 2006.

Another good video comparing armed combat that makes me appreciate IV's amazing physics even more. This is why shootouts are so awesome in IV. You can't even make people roll down stairs in V, sad!

If you've ever tried just walking everywhere (no jogging, sprinting or driving) you get bumped into by cars a lot. Every bump is reacted to differently and could be a save or a flop :D

just because a GTA game has a huge map or a sh*t ton of features does not make it necessarily the most fun to free roam in. IV is easily the most fun to free roam in despite the fact that it is more barebones than other GTAs. instead of killing innocent civilians like in every other GTA, you can push someone down the stairs, push someone into a subway train, bail out of a moving car and watch the chaos unfold, throw food at burger shot customers, run people over (you can do that in every GTA, but IV is the most fun to do it in), get drunk with your friends and trip each other over....

the physics really added more depth to the mechanics, making IV the best GTA game to cause chaos in. IV may not have a big empty map like V, or hundreds of side activities i never touched in SA, but.... rockstar knew exactly what they were doing when they put euphoria in IV.

This.

A lot of people might misunderstand our love to GTA IV and connect it only to its high quality story, but that's not everything about it. As much as I like the story, I believe that GTA IV's biggest strength is its free roam, even slightly before the story. That explains why I usually get sucked into the free roam and enjoy its overworld before I realize that I was planning to complete a few story missions.

(TBF SR1 has some of the best nonrealistic/typical ragdolls seen in open world crime history)

I wish I could take the reactions from RDR1 and 2, along with the pushing physics of IV, and the actual force from bullets, cars, bailing out of cars, falling, and explosions etc. from GTA V
