Y'know it would be really cool if VI's box art ended up looking like this:

Grade-B-Media: Grand Theft Auto III Retrospective Review

Would be cool as a fresh change but the traditional GTA cover art is iconic at this point.

If Cyberpunk 2077 does well(shout out to the brotha Mike Pondsmith) and is a big hit then I can definitely see Rockstar upping their game. Yall agree or disagree?

Cyberpunk 2077 should have been released early. It would have given tough competition  to rockstar.Eventually, would have surely forced rockstar to increase level or make a better quality game.

Nothing will be announced this month, USA will reach its coronavirus top in 15 April. Then the infected/day graphic will go down.

Hey man that sounds like good news. I want this virus sh*t over as soon as possible.

As much as I would like to disagree with you, I think you are 100% correct.

The cornavirus is 100% postponing the announcement to late May or early June.

Just think about it for a second. The coronavirus is paralizing many workplaces, why wouldn't it hit hard R* aswell? Are they Gods, or are they all working from home? If you think that they are working from home, I highly doubt that, since that would mean that workers could easily leak or copy or even sell code or who knows what... I doubt they are working at 100% peace on the project, maximum they are at 25%. Maybe only the heads of departments are working but not the programers, the marketing departments and such...

Stop lying to yourself and stop thinking that they will release something soon... They won't. Just accept it. It's better for yourself.

Did you accept yet that they won't release anything this month? No?..... ACCEPT THAT THEY WON'T RELEASE ANYTHING SOON.

Would have been fun to have them come out the same year R* vs CDPR. Have them go up against each other for the GOTY awards and sales. It'd be like watching two undefeated boxers fighting to keep their records and careers.

I would like to see a more complex and deeper underwater world.

Not this scripted sh*t. If you are a long distance from the beach away a shark spawns every time and eats you.

A blue whale would be nice. Maybe they jump out of the ocean. If you are in a boat it could destroy it or kill you.

There should be much more things to find and explore. It should be even possible to dive to the ground and in the deep sea with an submarine.

Oil platforms with workers on it and tanks of course or huge yachts travelling the oceans. It should be possible to hijack them. Pirates who hijack you....

I was just coming out of HS when V came out. I'm now 26 lol...

I remember discussing the first trailer with my best friend and theorizing what may be in V (some right, others exaggerated) in Year 10 of Secondary School. The game didn't come out until I'd started College. And it didn't come out on PC until the end of my second year at said College. Now I'm in the middle of my Masters (5th) year at University, preparing for a potential Doctorate, and V is STILL the newest entry in the GTA franchise. That's mind-boggling when you consider from 2001 - 2004, three mainline GTA titles were released. That's unthinkable now.

I really hope something for today tbh even you know why. Furthermore, i agree with you on GTA V.

You should not hope for today or tomorrow.

You can expect something in Sept. or Oct. but not now.

It´s just not the time to announce GTA 6, in my opinion.

I now feel that some of the slightly older generation on here (who were in their teens when III-SA came out) were incredibly lucky to have:

III, VC, SA, and IV come out in the space of 8 years. It might even be 9 years between V and VI as you said. This is my argument against those who believe a 2023 release is likely. It means missing a whole generation of younger players and finishing off the older, original GTA players as they get well into theirs 30s. I know it will sell regardless, but I'm sure Rockstar - and Take 2 - are aware of just how long the gap has been. I honestly feel they'll aim for late 2021 (which will probably be delayed to March 2022...)

@AlexGRFan97. I remember feeling that 2003 was a drought. Oh how spoiled I/we were then!

@Jon Dohnson. Sadly you're right. I think now announcement is most likely October. May is a possibility (I'm not basing that on anything) but I won't hold my breath.

I honestly find it very strange that people think now ('covid19 times') wouldn't be the time for R* to release any info or that development has stopped because people can't be trusted to do their work outside of the office..

First off lets be real here, half the world has a lot more free time right now or soon and not much to do because we're all told to stay inside (so really, the next few months will be big business for gaming)

Secondly why would working from home increase the chance of employees breaking their NDA's? if anything working from home would make it easier to figure out who leaked, and with the way things are going nobody wants to lose their income or get such a big fine they will be personally-bankrupt for the rest of their lives

This Year we will hear nothing about GTA 6.... next Year is the most realistic Year. And release 2022 or 2023.

Has nothing to do on them being able to do so. They obviously have all the tools to release a trailer or a tweet with a logo, even remotely.

But announcing such a big title during a sh*t economical situation, which will only get worse in the COVID fallout, is just not good thinking. The level of pre-orders would not be the same and considering the conjuncture, I also don't expect this new generation to be very succesful right off the bat because the world is not going to solve the crisis in a couple of months.

They might, or might have not had plans for a current year announcement with a release next year/2022 but those could have changed. T2, like any other company, wants to maximize their profits, and plans change accordingly to that.

At this point I am somehow convinced that there might have been plans for march/april tease/trailer, however, as all of you are starting to realize, it is very likely covid19 has made them delay this until the situation goes back to somewhat normal. And we all know about rockstar and delays, don't we, they get along very well

I'm not saying this is going to happen later today, but one of the things I've been thinking about is how they could use the GTA Online Update article on the Newswire to tease something - whether that be subtle or obvious. Subtle would be some cars familiar to Vice City going on sale, and only those that appeared in Vice City being on sale. Or, there could be a whole "taste of Vice City" thing they do where they have a new playlist with new events with names relating to Vice City, new outfits styled after those from Vice City, and even hinting at the type of missions we could encounter with double rewards on those things within VI  - such as the MC Businesses or Air Freight Cargo.

As others have said, Rockstar do the unexpected. A GTA Online Update on the Newswire could just flat out confirm GTA VI as a thing before getting into everything else for the week. It'll be interesting to see where the first official talk of the game does come from.

I don't really think this situation would alter their plans that much. Microsoft and Sony both revealed their consoles specs a few weeks ago. Bethesda, just yesterday announced they will be revealing details on their upcoming games, in the coming months. As a replacement for BE3. So, game announcements and gaming news are still happening. The difference is that these situations likely involve games or consoles that were due for release either this year, or within the next year or so. Those plans can't really change too much.

Besides, if GTA VI were announced tomorrow, hypothetically. The pre order numbers would be irrelevant. As they wouldn't even talk about the game for a year, anyway. just look at GTA V or RDR2.  Pre orders likely wouldn't even be open until much closer to release. People like to wait for special/collectors editions, etc. GTA V had those viewfinder pre order bonuses that began in October/November 2012.

I'm still not expecting an announcement until next year. But I don't see COVID-19 halting their plans like some seem to think. It's pretty standard for Rockstar to announce a major game, then say nothing for 5-6 months. Give us two screenshots, then say nothing for another 5-6 months.

Its been debunked as April Fools cause Next Gen has 60 Frames per Second and Gta 6 is a PS5 exclusive anyways

Do you know how much money they would lose making it an exclusive, they might make it temporarily for a month but not more. Rockstar never makes their games exclusive and it would be the dumbest business decision anyone could make. They would lose out on so much profit, I don‘t get how people believe that, it‘s just plain stupid.

Exclusive would only make sense if it was a launch title (unlikely that will happen) if the consoles came out 1 month apart.

I know this has been shown before no need to remind me. But I am very curious what this would be for. Any ideas?

I think it's 99.9% for GTA Online. No way they release a new game in 3-4 months, except summer 2020 is an announcement for a new game. Then I would think Manhunt 3 or a new IP.

I agree, tho I also think you should take into consideration the aftermath and the way the whole situation is going to unravel. I guess Rockstar is thinking ahead and considering that a big economical crisis might occur and affect not only their games, but the sales of next gen consoles for the next 1-2 years. That's if we assume the game will be next-gen only.

Even if R* were to just announce GTA6, something like "It is in production and more information is coming out soon, and here are some preview shots" or whatever, it would still need a massive amount of work behind the scenes to manage all of this. It would trigger an absolute tsunami of interest and enquiries. Maybe now of all times it is far less risky for the teams to just hunker down and quietly keep going (from home).

You would need a strategy to handle all the press enquiries, probably a press kit and a PR roster to do interviews. You would need to update staff on policies about what they can and can't say. Third party contractors will need to be told about the plan too; they would probably need to be consulted before the announcement came out. Then what about all the folk who are remotely involved in the game, who might want to say something but are waiting until the lines are blurred by an announcement before coming forward?

As soon as R* say anything, the gates are open and it needs a very proactive control strategy to stop a free-for-all and make things work in their favour.

I know some people will say, 'well, this hasn't happened in the past when they announced games'. But that's largely because there was a huge, well-resourced and coordinated PR machine to control everything. Times were normal back then.
