We are definitely getting closer to a announcement. If the 6th & 9th passes without a announcement, then we can move the goalposts to October

They wouldn't announce GTA VI on Monday.

Realism. Filling your cars with gas. Holding guns in the trunk. Following traffic lights. A full out simulation.

No way. Games, especially GTA, shouldn't be miserable IRL chores.

I think the Preacher might have been right, but because of the ongoing pandemic the planning might have been changed and so did the announcement. But of course, we don't know.

We were already supposed to get an announcement on:

March 20th

March 25th

March 31st

April 1st

April 2nd

April 3rd

And now we have new dates for next week?

This will never end. Only Rockstar knows when they are going to announce it.

It's just weird that Rockstar out of nowhere liked a photo from the account of nbaoncourt where LeBron James has the cover of Vice City on his table.

I personally feel like the vast amount of resources put into RDR2 vs the payoff has left Take Two and Rockstar in a little bit of a predicament. And it is the new breed of gamer who wants instant gratification who has put them there.

RDR2 visually is stunning. Story wise it is epic.

I can’t get my hands on actual development costs but if I had to guess it would have cost a lot more money to develop and produce RDR2 than it would have cost to develop and produce GTA 5.

GTA 5 has created recurring revenue in the millions of dollar range year over year for nearly the past decade.

RDR2, although an epic tale and stunning visuals, hasn’t been able to generate cash flow on the same level.

Cash is King. Shareholders, investors, and CEOs do not care so much about providing stunning visuals and epic stories to remember. They care about their bottom line. Profit.

Because so many have scoffed at the beauty of RDR2 and have failed to appreciate the artwork for what it is. Because so many haven’t even played it. Because so many would rather get that million dollar in game home without the grind. I’m afraid RDR2 may have been the apex of gaming.

Its why Dan left. Story doesn’t matter. It’s all about the Mula. Dan was all about the art form. His departure signifies the end of an era.

Rockstar and Take Two May be able to convince investors that the best strategic path forward is to continue in the foot steps of RDR2 with the next GTA. This means epic story. Realism. Filling your cars with gas. Holding guns in the trunk. Following traffic lights. A full out simulation. And topping it all off with doing online right and generating that recurring revenue stream.

But if people fail to appreciate the game. If people scoff at it. If people don’t want that realism. Rockstar has nowhere left to turn because that has been what they have building towards for over 2 decades.

After that, well get nothing but online. No epic stories. No grind. No game.

A pay to play virtual social gathering full of heat seeking missiles, jet packs, flying cars, and clown uniforms resembling Saints Row.

This is a dire warning to the community. Appreciate the artwork this company produces. Get some taste. That’s how we keep Rockstar in the spot light, and ensure we have beautiful immersive games for years to come.

They could do both. Generate instant cash by selling a proper singleplayer game and releasing some over the top online game that generates constant cash flow (maybe even at a monthly cost).

I wouldn't mind. Go ahead, make the investors and shareholders happy by pulling money out of the 12 year olds pockets. As I long as we get a real GTA VI, it's okay.

I would care about online if it wasn't that much over the top. It's more like Saints Row than GTA.

The guys at R* had to swap from working at their office to working at home, I think they had to do some things to make that possible and take the time.

But it was posted even less than a day ago. The image didn't exist to be liked by R* until now. So, if this image was posted 2010, they'll like it.

Actually this makes sense to me now, so, if that's true, the preacher had info before covid-19 declared a pandemic.

Of course this is all speculations. We don't know things for sure, but that makes sense to me.

The only thing I doubt is that if they were to announce something, it could've been easily done with just a logo or by just saying #GTAVI, but they didn't do that.

i really don't want to see real cars in any GTA game

Me too, as others have said some of the cars we have now are iconic, I'd really miss the Blista Compact and the Futo.

Ths only one I miss from the real world is the Miata, it's such an iconic model! It's strange that they never added it.

Isn't the Miata supposed to be the Banshee? They added it in GTA III.

Agree with you 100%. Man I just hope that’s not the reason Dan left and Rockstar continue to make masterpieces. Dan was truly the vision and an exceptional writer. We all should appreciate the greatness till it lasts.

@RichWalterWhite I think it was the mañana but in liberty city stories, it was front wheel drive if my memory is right. The banshee reminds me more the Dodge Viper

@MrQuiche I'd go for the na or nd!

I think first GTA 6 trailer won't even have a release date at the end

Both 4's and 5's first trailers didn't have release date specified

I see that the community is divided over the duration of the GTA. Some say that the past is boring, we need modernity. Others say that modernity sucks, the past is atmospheric.
In fact, Rockstar can sit on two chairs at once, dividing the plot into parts - one in the past, the other in the present (as for example it was done in Driver PL). The plot might have been more interesting in the past, but our time is much more convenient for online.

Well, in general, you can recall GTA 2, where the action took place in the near future, and the game itself was in the style of retro futurism

By the way I wouldn't expect gtavi.com to be available until announcement. I'm almost sure, that they are working on it internally and it is accessible only in their internal network (intranet).

It's also why I dislike most visual mods too. They often strive for realism (and never really hitting it, I should say) while removing a lot of the handcrafted atmosphere Rockstar created.

Same. Most of them look to clear, also. Like the draw distance is infinite, and you can see everything crystal clear. Unlike real life, where things in the distance look "greyed out" due to either the atmosphere, pollution or the humidity. There's only one graphical mod that I do like though. But even that looked extremely clear, but it did it in a realistic way.

Not really I just checked the NBAoncourt Instagram and they uploaded the picture last night. So it just seems Rockstar wanted share it and I'm sure they knew it would get people talking a bit so yeah maybe it was a slight nudge to what we already basically know. If it was posted a couple months ago then I would say it would be really weird for Rockstar to share it.

I just watched this video, which isn’t related to GTA, but it just shows how Rockstar Games can make masterpieces games when they want and learn from their mistakes :
