This should already get people excited for the gta 6 graphics No way they are gonna step down from this, it can only go up from here

Something felt so cool about rd2 compared to 5. Idk how to explain it but when your walking the world just seems to be more zoomed in idk how to explain it, it is just a great game 😂

RAGE is the most "cinematic" engine in gaming, i cant wait to see what they do with it going forward.

Honestly get giddy thinking about a next gen GTA with bounce lighting and GI 😍

But this kinda unfair comparison, how much gta handles in compare to RDR. Say all those traffic cars are the grass on this screen shot.

Imagine gta 6 has every little detail like police acting tactical and not a bunch of crackheads like 5

In other words you really feel like you‘re in the game, it‘s the most immersive game I‘ve ever played, this wasn‘t the case for me in gta 5 unfortunately. I just hope that now they did such a great job with RDR2 that gta 6 will be even better.

What Rockstar absolutely nailed with RDR2 but also to lesser extents in V and IV (given that they are older games) is atmosphere. Speaking about RDR2, the feeling of walking through the swamps in the midst of night with heavy fog, the visuals, the sounds, the OST that might flare up here and then. The Grizzlies with it's blizzards, roaming through the Meadows on a hot cloudless day, New Austin in the middle of a sandstorm, etc. The production levels in all areas of the game is so high it comes together to create the absolute best open worlds in the business. GTA VI, especially if on next-gen hardware, will be bonkers.

It's also why I dislike most visual mods too. They often strive for realism (and never really hitting it, I should say) while removing a lot of the handcrafted atmosphere Rockstar created.

Yea, i cant explain it but it felt like everything is bigger infront of you. I can just imagine how gta 6 would look in rd2 and my balls tingle with excitement. And im sure gta 6 is being worked on hard

Well let me put it this way, RAGE is built on AGE which was used for Midtown Madness way back in the day. You can also list pretty much any other well known engine and trace it's origins back several years if not decades as well.

Game engines aren't like the actual games, you don't just start from scratch when you want to do something new, it's not practical or really needed. They evolve and are refined over years with new technology integrated into them as it's developed.

I just want to learn a bit about it, so thanks.

San Andreas was build with the RenderWare Engine.

And IV was build with the new RAGE Engine.

My Question now is.

Was the new RAGE Engine necessary to make IV visually etc. like it is or would it be with the RenderWare Engine theoretically possible too?

Rd2 deserved alot more attention than what is has got now. I didnt play  rd2 for 2 years i was never interested in them western games, I just watched youtube vids and thought it looked like something I would not enjoy. But one day it was on sale and I bought it and I was kicking myself, i fell in love with it. I think people who have never played the game dont realise how good it is

I... dunno? Maybe? Maybe not?

If I recall the reason RenderWare was dropped was because EA bought the studio who made it and that made a lot of the companies that licensed the engine a bit uneasy.

I know. Did read it on Wikipedia.:)

But that was not my question.

Maybe there is someone here who knows more about it.

I mean, it really depends how much you invest into the engine. With enough investment (time/resources), sure you could make a game like IV possible with RenderWare. You can overhaul any engine to make it capable to do anything, it just requires time. Rockstar have invested heavily in RAGE since they began development on it, but Rockstar have the resources only a handful of studios in the world have.

Does it mean that there is no limit in terms of improvements of the engine?

Or is it possible that you have to build a new engine, if you want to create something thats just not possible with the current engine?

You can adapt an engine if you want to make something new. The limits with engines are the same limits with games; time, resources, technology and the hardware. To put it very simply, Rockstar can blow all our minds with GTA VI with RAGE.

Theoretically speaking there is no limit, but making upgrade of that kind you mentioned would be equal to building from a scratch. Engine in simple words the connection between hardware, that holds all calculation needed to be executed by a hardware. What it will be - car's physics or gun shots - doesn't matter, but what is matter how much engine knows, and there all hard work comes.

Why DID the GTA 5 reveal trailer have more props and detail than the final game? I’m pretty sure by 2011 Rockstar knew the limitations of the hardware they were working on. Was it really false advertising or did they merely bite off more than they could chew? It’s unusual because the released Red Dead Redemption 2 looks even better than the reveal trailer, although it was released for MUCH better hardware.

No, it's nothing like that. They showed GTA V really early when they didn't have everything in game. As you add more and more you realise, that it won't work so you have to cut things.

I personally feel like the vast amount of resources put into RDR2 vs the payoff has left Take Two and Rockstar in a little bit of a predicament. And it is the new breed of gamer who wants instant gratification who has put them there.

RDR2 visually is stunning. Story wise it is epic.

I can’t get my hands on actual development costs but if I had to guess it would have cost a lot more money to develop and produce RDR2 than it would have cost to develop and produce GTA 5.

GTA 5 has created recurring revenue in the millions of dollar range year over year for nearly the past decade.

RDR2, although an epic tale and stunning visuals, hasn’t been able to generate cash flow on the same level.

Cash is King. Shareholders, investors, and CEOs do not care so much about providing stunning visuals and epic stories to remember. They care about their bottom line. Profit.

Because so many have scoffed at the beauty of RDR2 and have failed to appreciate the artwork for what it is. Because so many haven’t even played it. Because so many would rather get that million dollar in game home without the grind. I’m afraid RDR2 may have been the apex of gaming.

Its why Dan left. Story doesn’t matter. It’s all about the Mula. Dan was all about the art form. His departure signifies the end of an era.

Rockstar and Take Two May be able to convince investors that the best strategic path forward is to continue in the foot steps of RDR2 with the next GTA. This means epic story. Realism. Filling your cars with gas. Holding guns in the trunk. Following traffic lights. A full out simulation. And topping it all off with doing online right and generating that recurring revenue stream.

But if people fail to appreciate the game. If people scoff at it. If people don’t want that realism. Rockstar has nowhere left to turn because that has been what they have building towards for over 2 decades.

After that, well get nothing but online. No epic stories. No grind. No game.

A pay to play virtual social gathering full of heat seeking missiles, jet packs, flying cars, and clown uniforms resembling Saints Row.

This is a dire warning to the community. Appreciate the artwork this company produces. Get some taste. That’s how we keep Rockstar in the spot light, and ensure we have beautiful immersive games for years to come.

Sincerely,

A concerned gamer.

This is very well put. I was nodding in agreement with every statement. Lets hope there is someone at Rockstar to carry the torch that Dan left.

I saw that late last night on twitter, thought that would of been discussed on the forums so imagine my surprise when I see it’s only just being talked about 🤣 usually these forums are the first place news like that gets talked about.

But yeah dude, the fact it now redirects to R*’s official page, when it didn’t before has to mean we’re close to a possible announcement?

Idk, I don’t wanna get my hopes up again, but that, mixed with the LeBron gta vice city tease, gives me confidence.

We are definitely getting closer to a announcement. If the 6th & 9th passes without a announcement, then we can move the goalposts to October

The most logical thing would be to release GTA VI 4-5 years after RDR2, just like how they released RDR2 5 years after GTA V. So I am expecting the game for Fall 2022 or Fall 2023 (Because Rockstar seems to love releasing their games in Fall)
