I seem to be in a rather small minority of players that doesn't consider deliberately shooting enemy horses taboo.

If I'm being chased by two dudes on one horse, I shoot the horse.

Some of those NPCs target my horse, so I'll take theirs out. No problem to me. They aren't real after all. I have taken horses out from under griefers on occassion. Many of the griefers just disappeared after that. Wonder why. A few that didn't, I just trampled them with my horse since they just stood there in the wide open. lol

I  use it as a "super punishment" for really annoying griefers....

Yeah, I mean, I'm not some wanton horse butcher but if it makes tactical sense to shoot a horse, I shoot a horse. Partly an adaptation to free aim in that a horse is just a plain bigger target, partly the fact that disabling the mount is sometimes more advantageous than killing the rider outright.

I burn griefers' horse with fire arrows... They don't like it.

Especially when they're chasing and are bullet sponges (NPC) or just a greifer. Much better to shoot the horse.

I like to go to the coast at shoot at the NPCs piloting the boats. It's fun to shoot them when they're trying to swim away.

Same here--I can think of six distinct advantages:

* Bigger, easier target to hit

* Buys you time while the NPC recovers from the fall

* Might kill the NPC for you (due to crushing by the horse)

* The horse can't drag the body away, making you run after it and potentially losing the loot

* Killing just one horse is enough to bring a wagon to an eventual, screeching halt (may be the fastest way to save the "stop the wagon" encounter)

* Slows lawmen down significantly (and fun to watch them try to catch up on foot--especially at distance):

I love horses with a passion, and when I say that, I mean that I have equine everything from books, tattoos, a 500+ model horse collection, etc. And also a husband who hates the sight of horses now. 😂

Basically, if I could I would hang out in a pasture with horses all day.

Yet even I will shoot a horse out from beneath it's owner if I have to. Not that I don't feel bad about it later, and if it is still alive I will revive it, but as far as I'm concerned it's an easier target and dropping it will handicap the rider for just the time I need to strike.

Did I mention I love horses. 😄

Also funny to watch them fly over the head of the horse. Some of them are very good gymnasts. 😄

My wife is the same about horses. She gives me an evil look when I shoot one. I actually try not to shoot any when she's around. I don't need a visit from the SPCA or a trip to divorce court. 😅

My husband is reckless with his horses, runs them into and off of every tree or cliff he can find so I have to be very lenient with him, but he does a better job of not shooting npc horses than I do.

It seems my problem is that I love riding up beside them and blasting the npc off the horse with the shotgun, and sometimes I miss my mark and end up getting them both. So I can't be too unhappy with him. 😉

I'll admit to cringing when I have to destroy the wagons though, those poor carriage horses.

I won't shoot them either.

High Velocity rounds pass through NPC's, if you can line it up you can shoot both of them in the head with one bullet.

Oh God no. If it were I'd have her in divorce court now. 😄

Same thing with horses (though in the screenshot below, I obviously needed to aim a bit higher... and actually have ammo lol):

I use the standard camp theme, so I can at least sit inside it covering for the rain, while waiting for it to stop.

I run a zero-cost carriage service.  At least I used to.

Fells Wargo Express - join the posse and I'll take you wherever you want to go in a luxurious western carriage.

Now with lobbies limiting population to help with the Legendary Animals spawning, I don't run it anymore.  But I used to sit in one of 6 "Prime" locations with the carriage and invite anyone to take a ride instead of wasting their money on fast travel or have to tediously mind their own horse (and no risk of crashing in cinematic mode).  Would sit near the fast travel in Tumbleweed, Armadillo, Blackwater, Valentine, Rhodes, or Saint Denis.

Sight Seeing Tours were available upon request.

With the standard tent you can sit on the bed. It has ‘sit’ action thingy on it. It’s the only tent having that option, I think.

Cannot remember the theme but one of the largest tents you can sit inside with the right theme. It's the one where the bed runs from front to back on the R/H side as you view the tent

Also i dont shoot horses at all if i can help it nor do i shoot dogs

The dog can actually go inside the larger tents, but it's not intentional, something of a crossed path as I was going to sit on my canvas deck chair and he was heading to his corner to lie down.

Then the dog was glitching around in a circle behind me on on a box, and every time I opened the catalog it would close when the dog flipped around.

No screeny because R* borked using the Steam overlay and screenshots for non- Steam games, I haven't been able to take a screeny since Wednesday.   🙁 😬

I can crouch in either the collector themed tent or the traveling opulence tent.

What?? I had no idea about that lol. I'm gonna have to try the standard theme.

That's a shame. Doggo deserves a nice place during the many storms lol.

Did the dog end up returning back outside or did it remain in the tent for the session?

He eventually unglitched and walked around me to his spot at the tent's corner, but I had to stand up from the chair first.

It's my ritual to clean guns, restock at the lockbox, pat my husky, and sit in the chair while I order refills from the catalog to make sure the game saves all the previous stuff by buying things to end my session.

I have experienced loading into a new session the next day with my guns still dirty and the ammo gone form my lockbox, but my carry amounts not refilled before because I didn't buy something afterward to force a save.

I can certainly afford it, but I hate wasting things.

sometimes we start a bounty in st. denis, go 2 streets south in the industrial zone and start a fistfight with 10 npcs.

it results in a horrible knife massacre, because they keep attacking and attacking....

I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this but I like to take a break from all the business and just pretend I'm actually there; like I'll get on the horse and just do like actual things at a casual pace, like take a trip into town for groceries and necessities, make it back to camp and cook up dinner. I find myself walking instead of sprinting to take in all the scenery and to not feel rushed. I'll tip my hat, nod, and wave to NPCs and other players as I mosey along dusty trails. I'll go into town and just sit at the bar, listen to the piano player, and have a few drinks at the end of a long day while watching other players come and go.

That's dead on how I play. Easy does it...sometimes I work, sometimes I play, sometimes I hunt down some bounties, or rob a few dastardly-looking fellas with potty mouths, other times I vacation far off, visit old friends. Then there are times I hunt and fish. Role-playing in this game, with everything functioning right and all the NPCs and wildlife and random events spawning well, is about the best there is across all genres at the moment, in my opinion.

Love this game!
