Good posts from everyone. Especially you @wise_man you STAY making good posts. I been saying modern Miami is extremely different from the one back in the 80s.

Modern Miami all the way.

I’m a big fan of period pieces, but for the GTA franchise it is much better if it stays current. DLC-wise? It could be done, but it’s a lot of effort.

There is much more they can add and explore. I’d definitely want to see a subplot exploring human trafficking. No “let’s help them escape and risk the org going after us” but rather a “it’s evil but gotta be done or else.”

Plus like it’s already been mentioned - Miami is the mecca of misconduct in modern America.

There are many themes and avenues that we can explore in a contemporary VC setting.

You think of human trafficking network. For me it's the fraudulent crimes in the deceiving paradise. For @The Made Man, it's the modern Haitian gangsters that are tangled with their home country's politics. For others, it could be about the post-Escobar narco era; the hood life of Liberty City; or the southern redneck culture. Lot of avenues to go.

Exactly. Before the leaks, I had wished for a period piece because I wanted them to capture the real 80s Miami this time around, as opposed to the glamorized pastel paradise in Vice City and Vice City Stories, to match the HD's universe realism and because it'd look amazing in modern RAGE graphics. In retrospect, modern-day Florida is the perfect fit for a current Rockstar (not just for GTAO + DLCs) but also because of the bar of storytelling they're aiming at recently. The sheer thematic richness and the avenues for social relevant commentary that a contemporary setting opens up, even just through the internet alone, carries amazing potential.

There's a chance to embrace that and elevate GTA's trademark satire beyond parodic commentary and explore some uncomfortable or typically uncovered topics in mainstream entertainment that are also obviously serve as different crimes for a story and variety of missions.

All the topics mentioned like modern-day fraudulent crimes, cybercrime (if reports of Lucia being a hacker of sorts are true), human trafficking, exploration of Florida post-Escobar (which can tie in-GTA as post drug kingpins like Tommy Vercetti and Vic Vance), the rednecks in the swamp or the different gang dynamics could easily be different story arcs/subplots and criminal activities we could engage in for more content.

Depending on how they handle it, human trafficking could be a dark yet interesting theme to explore in the for not only the commentary on the very real nature of it in modern-times, but also serve as insight to Jason/Lucia's story and character arcs.

"It's evil but gotta be done" to save their lives or for business like you said is not only a bolder and less cliché way of going about it, but could shift the story to a darker tone and transition of our protagonists (or one of them) to a more morally grey place.

And it should really be to be honest.

80's is already a classic. When they release a modern day VC, it will become very popular I think.

Hope rockstar is combining all the gta cities from previous game and in their style showcasing that the things they slightly exaggerated are only worse today.
