I had a big expectations from patch8 and EFLC but since then, I made my game pirate version, Cockstar just asked for it!!!

Now my games are updated to 1.0.7.0/1.1.2.0 and everything is fine and I can use a mods!

I have physical copies of the games and every time when there is a new update i reinstalled the games and if the new update is sh*T, I reinstalled them again, update them to 1.0.7.0 with the crack and play normally yeah Cockstar just asked for it!!!

About the Issues with the new Steam "Complete Edition":

-There is still no Rotterdam tower lights at nights!

-The white ghost buildings in the far distance during sunny days are still no fixed!

-Detailed shadows are reduced since patch 1.0.7.0

-Many, many other sh*ts...

C* WTF!!!!!

Before this new version GTA4 ran like sh*t on my machine. Now I have the game running maxed out with steady 60FPS with V-Sync turned on. Before the patch It had spikes and fps drops to 25fps in some areas, now this problem is gone.

At least for me the previous performance issues are solved.

Anyone tried using saves from this new version with the old 1.0.4.0 and 1.0.8.0 versions?

I'm already 100% on Episodes and I wanna go 100% completion on GTA IV also but I don't want my saves to be tied only to the Steam crippled version.

If not compatible is there any saves converter like those for Vice City and San Andreas?

Also a bit confused as to where the saves are located on this version... AppData or normal documents folder?

I can definitely confirm this as well. They have improved the optimization. My 1060 should be able to handle this at 4k easily no sweat but it was a pipe dream earlier. Now it runs @ 4k maxed 55-60 fps without any drops.

Performs exactly the same as it always did on my 1070...somewhere between "okay I guess" and like dogsh*t, depending on the view and detail distance. Resolution makes basically no difference and never has in my experience.

But some people are saying performance has improved?

Is the graphics blurry or is it clearer in the new version?

I'd say the placebo is strong. People also say the older patches before 1.0.7.0 perform better, which is false in my experience (provided you set the shadows to high in 1,0.7.0 and newer, which is equivalent to very high in the older patches). The game runs just as badly as it always did...or as good, depending on how low you're willing to set the distance settings, which are by far the biggest killers on modern machines.

Yeah, models in GTA IV were made with console draw distance settings in mind. Which are exactly 21 for draw distance and 10 for detail distance.

So increasing it will make your game run a bit choppy and cause these issues.

So yeah, just set the draw distance to 21 and detail distance to 10. The game will run smooth and look great.

Tried this, it's terrible, just looks like the PS3 version, no detail on buildings, crap draw distance... I appreciate the effort but this isn't a good setting at all for a high-power PC, and it's STILL choppy

I didn't notice any performance improvement with Complete Edition. It's running like 1.0.8.0 version.

Depends if you turn off or on a setting. It's called Definition or something? Forgot the name. But in my case, it was definitely sharp.

I must reconsider what I said before about the game being optimized. I've played 9 hours in a row now, and the game presented several slowdowns that did'nt showed up earlier. Still very playable, but sometimes when you move the mouse too quickly or drive cars in bridge areas the game slows down good. From 60FPS down to 40 or less in less than a second. Setting down the graphics settings did not change that. Turning V-Sync on or off also did'nt help.

Also I experienced a problem with the camera during some of the game cutscenes, the camera is zoomed in a lot missing the characters. In that mission that you have to kill that lawyer , when his secretary talks with him by phone the game hangs, I had to restart the game and skip the cutscene entirely to be able to complete the mission.

Unfortunately it is unlikely that R* will work on a patch for a game so old. They probably don't care.

to fix this, limit your fps to 60

IV is meant to be played with fps not more than 60

Well of course it looks like the PS3 version, thats what the models were developed and optimized for! Either

A) Have crap draw distance or

B) Have z-fighting

On my desktop I have both the original disc versions and the new complete edition installed at the same time. The save files for both are in different locations.

GTA IV and GTA EFLC saved games:
C:\Users\My_User_Name\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\My_Profile_Name

GTA IV The Complete Edition saved games:
C:\Users\My_User_Name\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Profiles\My_Profile_Name

I just copied a save game for GTA IV from 2009 to my GTA IV The Complete Edition saved game folder. It loaded and played OK.

I still get a bit of z-fighting at draw distance 21 and detail distance 10. But it fixes some major cases.

I've been trying to get my saves to work from Steam edition to 1.0.2.0 retail one... I just like this old version and it seems to perform better than any other, probably thanks to the shadows used : P

Anyway I myself had no luck so far lol... Always get "check your hdd" error and load fails.

When Rockstar said old saves are supported maybe they meant 1.0.8.0 only?

If it's possible to get them working in old versions (1.0.2.0-1.0.5.0) please tell me how :  P

Years ago I archived a bunch of saved games. The saved game I tried recently was from November 2009. I don't know what official patch was out then. I might have been Patch 4. The oldest saved games I have are from early 2009. I need to try some of them. They may be from earlier Patches.

I also need to try saved games I made recently with the disc version. They were made with the XLiveLess added. XLiveLess was necessary because of the loss of Games for Windows Live.

Here is some more information I have found online...

Save game data location
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\<user-id>\
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Profiles\<user-id>\ (Complete Edition)

Using XLiveLess
Save game data location changes to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\
Save games made using XLiveLess are not compatible with native save games.

It starts to get nasty then should smooth out as you bump it up. I can max it, but between the console settings and 3/4 of the way up it’s got different levels of performance problems on different places. But once draw is maxed and detail is 3/4 to max, it smooths back out. Try it out.

Microsoft shut down the Games for Windows Live servers back in 2014. I tried to reinstall both GTA IV and GTA EFLC a couple months ago but the installs failed because there was no Games for Windows Live server to connect to. I was forced to use XLiveLess to get around that.

The main reason GTA IV The Complete Edition was released is because it has the code for Games for Windows Live removed.

I have GTA IV The Complete Edition on both my desktop and laptop. The version on my laptop launches directly from Steam. The version on my desktop launches from the Rockstar Games Launcher.

I am also still playing the original GTA IV and GTA EFLC. Like I said I have to use XLiveLess with them because of the absence of Games for Windows Live servers.

Something’s up with your PC as I did a fresh install of GTA IV and EFLC a few weeks ago and I can play online with GFWL fine. If it’s a verification issue with Securom, you have to just set the date back on your PC to some time in 2014, or just download the offline verification file from R*.

I think we were both right. And yes I did set the date back when I tried to install GTA IV and GTA EFLC back in January.

It is well documented online that Rockstar did shut down their Games for Windows Live servers in 2014.

When I tried to install GTA IV and GTA EFLC in January everything went OK until the games tried to log onto the GFWL servers and activate the games. They would always time out and abort the installation. I tried several times over a weeks time.

GTA IV The Completion Edition was released on Steam on March 19, 2020 and several days later on the Rockstar Games Launcher. I have a feeling that Rockstar secretly reactivated the Games for Windows Live servers or something similar to take their place around that time. Note that GTA IV The Completion Edition does not even use GFWL.

I just tried again today doing the installation the same way I did in January. This times the results were different.

GTA EFLC installed OK and did not even ask for its Product Key. I also installed Patch 3.

GTA IV was another matter. I was asked for the Product Key. After that it says it was successfully activated. I then installed Patch 8. When I tried to run LaunchGTAIV.exe it crashed. I had to set compatability mode to Windows XP SP3 for it to run at all. Unfortunately it was then blocked by something in User Account Control (UAC). I had to temporarily turn UAC off to get past that. I really did not want to leave UAC off so I turned it back on. Until I get this figured out I am going to use a NOCD type fix to launch the game.

LaunchGTAIV.exe boots fine for me on W10, I dunno what's up with yours.

Got another fun bug that happened to me and my homie MisterPost when playing gta iv on this somehow more broken than the game already was version.

The game stereo audio can randomly disappear on one side and the only fix is to restart the game... It also makes the same noise if you pause/play the footage after it begins...
