Which Grand Theft Auto game do you think has the best map? Every version from every game has been put, so you can pick any map you want.

Edit : Please look out when you pick an answer, the first three maps on the answer choice are from GTA 1, some people seems to accidentally pick these ones without realizing they aren't the 3D era maps...

Los Santos & Blaine County. Although my personal favorite should be LC.

Mine is San Andreas from GTA San Andreas, it's pretty obvious due to the fact that it's an entire state, with three cities that are all cool and the forests, mountains, river, farmlands, deserts and highways that separate them.

GTA V, as it is the most ambitious map to date considering its size and details. Blaine County is here what really provides the essence of the map, although more forest with flatter terrain would have been great.

Rockstar has proven themselves masters of making nature come alive in a video game through RDR2, so a new Vice City with bayous, swamps and tidal marshes or a new Liberty City with New York wild forests would indeed be great.

An honorable mention is the deserts of Bone County and Tierra Robada and the forest of Flint County in GTA SA, as these provided mystique and a creepy sense of isolation, while remaining somewhat beautiful and interesting to explore. Spend countless of hours as a kid, hunting for aliens and bigfoot sh*tless without realizing it was all mods on PC. Good times indeed.

I agree, it was fun playing in this map

San Andreas. The multiple cities and variety in terrain along with the feeling of expansiveness the map managed to portray impressed me the most, and though it may lack the detail of subsequent maps, felt the most interesting to explore.

like many people said i have to go with san andreas. although i of course do love the other maps too. and they have their own unique feel. but its just so cool to go from city to city. and enjoy the countryside and deserts. i really hope rockstar does something like that again.

Liberty City/Alderney.

Whilst it doesn't have the changes of landscape and locales like San Andreas and GTA V it more than makes up for it with impeccable detail, atmosphere and IMO is one of the best representations of how to do primarily urban based maps in gaming history.

Every square inch feels like R* went over it with a fine tooth comb and whilst this may not be the most popular opinion I'm glad R* didn't throw on countryside like they were going to if they felt like it wasn't going to do the map justice. In this day and age where it seems like every developer is striving to make their open worlds as vast as possible with different landscapes urban based maps aren't as common place anymore. The last one I remember was the Spiderman game on PS4 a couple of years and even it had a greatly detailed NYC it paled in comparison to GTA IV IMO once the honeymoon phase was over.

Sadly I don't think we'll see a unique map like GTA IV's in the series ever again.

The top 3 maps are San Andreas, Libety City from GTA IV and Los Santos from GTA V

San Andreas for diversity and feeling of travel

Liberty City for the lifelike city (Seriously would like to live there more then real life NY)

Los Santos and Blaine County for size and fun

If you were someone like Niko you'd be fine but if you were an ordinary npc you would live your life in constant terror due to the antics of the protagonists and the other characters of LC. There's a reason Liberty City is known as the 'Worst place in America' :p

But yeah I get what you mean. LC really is beautifully crafted.

It's hard to say. I really like the GTA V's Los Santos, but San Andreas has amazing map at the time. Even GTA IV does good job with Algonquin.

mmmh hard one. I love the contryside and the small towns of SA but if I have to chose a city map definitely LC, since LS is not so good.

I have to change my vote.

After playing San Andreas again it definitely has the best map. GTA IV's Liberty City/Alderney is still my personal favourite because of how incredibly detailed it is and it's the map I've spent the most time with, but San Andreas' has something for everyone which is what makes it the "best" IMO.

It even manages to do a better job than GTA V. Don't get me wrong GTA V's map is incredibly detailed too and looks great, but with only one city and a disproportionate city to countryside ratio it just doesn't come off as convincing. San Andreas is of course unrealistic by today's standards, but when I think of the idea for the time it blows my mind. The way it strategically places the three cities in each corner of the map and uses the respective countryside/desert and the towns/settlements that make them up as natural thoroughfares is genius.

If I had to rank the maps based on my personal favourite maps it would probably be something like..

1) GTA IV

2) Vice City

3) GTA III

4) San Andreas

5) GTA V

But more objectively it would be probably closer to this....

1) San Andreas

2) GTA IV

3) GTA V

4) GTA III

5) Vice City

The best maps are GTA SA and III due to their attention to detail, size (SA only) and diverse and clearly defined distinctive areas. Voted for SA, because countryside.

Worst ones are V and VC. V is a barren landscape with no proper countryside, and the city is simply square miles upon miles of concrete. VC's second island is tiny and not at all rewarding to unlock; whereas half of the map is taken up by a beach and an aeroport.

In my judgement I am not taking into account the quality of the map objects, weather, physics and visual filters, just the layout and design of the maps.

There's never been a map as such in a GTA game. Liberty City (GTA IV) is a close second to San Andreas but San Andreas was the perfect example of a map feeling so much bigger than it actually is. They pulled off 3 cities, 3 large rural areas and a number of small towns on a map that is very small when looked at today, yet because of the content, feels bigger than GTA V's map.

GTA V's map isn't bad even, it just missed some points but places like Sandy Shores, Mount Chiliad and Vinewood Hills were done exceptionally well.

I personally like IV's LC the most but ultimately most GTA games have good maps. VC was a bit underwhelming though.

GTA SA had the best map IMO.The 3 cities, many small towns, and the countryside with varied environment (forests in Red County, Flint County and Whetstone, the desert in Bone County and Tierra Robada, and a mountain south of San Fierro).Despite being smaller and less detailed,I like it much more than GTA 5 map, which has a tiny desert, around 30% of the map covered with mountains where there's nothing to do, and a highway that goes from Los Santos around the map and back to Los Santos.

The next best map would be in GTA 4.I haven't played that many games set in New York, but from what I've seen I think it has the best video game version of New York after PS4 Spiderman.

Oof I accidentally took gta 1s San Andreas

Yea of course I mean Gta San Andreas. 3 cities stretched over a full state and a story that moves us across this whole beautiful map. This games map is a journey in itself.

I still remember one day just trying to make a tour on foot from LS over SF to LV it was really a nice experience

I love the maps of every GTA I ever played. It's very hard for me to rank. VC feels like Miami and the 80's, SA feels complete, IV feels real, V feels gigantic. I voted for LC of GTAIII because I know it the best. Especially Portland, I know it by heart 100%. Every single detail.

Taking into consideration factors like the map size, variety, layout, and the time the game released (relative to its time), it'd rank it as follows...

San Andreas, followed by IV's LC, then V's LS & Blaine County.

III's and VC's maps were more of an experiment of how a 3D world can be constructed. They are too small and basic.

SA. The fact that they managed to not only masterfully design and put 3 different cities and 2 rural areas in one map, but connect all of it together so skilfully was shocking back then and is still impressive today. They nailed the logistics completely, which is incredibly hard to do considering the size of the map.

It is indeed. Nothing back then, in 2004, was comparable to what San Andreas accomplished map wise, and not even close. IV comes second in this aspect. V's? I wasn't impressed, but rather disappointed, mostly because of the lackluster layout. By 2013, other games also have started to show impressive maps, so the Grand Theft Auto map magic was slowly disappearing. VI's map has a lot to prove and do in order to impress again.

When i saw Gta San Andreas map for the first time i was impressed by the dimension and variety of the landscape but Gta V map is the most complete ever made. Probably they can't be compared due to ten years of difference in games developing. So i say San Andreas cause it was a harder work make this map about 20 years ago

San Andreas definitely. It's just so great and diverse.

Vice City has a great vibe but the map could be a bit bigger.
