Vice City Stories: PC Edition

Don't forget that VCS is an old ass game since ages ago. So, is obvious that rockstar won't spend millions of dollars on it. As remastering it with some third party studio, paying off for new usage licenses for the radio stations, etc. Better to spend those millions of dollars hiring new devs and stuff for gta online and keep the people paying for the same stuff over and over again, since that's the gta online experience. Even single player in GTAV is dead, now imagine VCS... lol.

They seem to be missing the full game manual PDF from the official website, but still have the page that's crediting all the music used in the radio stations.

 

You can probably download a PDF of the manual from many places on the web...

But then why even have it at all? Why bother making that page? It just interests me that LCS is completely absent from that page while VCS mysteriously has a pretty modern looking page. It just confuses me.

AFAIK, they haven't removed any songs of the PS3 port of VCS, which probably means they still have the license for all the songs.

In the same "Manuals" section they also have music credits for GTA IV/EFLC and The Warriors, so it's probably just a random thing.

yeah, they only removed VCS from psn and never put it back

That's true, but you still can download the game if you have bought it back when it was available (and the songs are still there).

@MAJEST1C_R3Sorry about the bad video there! It runs so smooth other than the pop up issues. I almost would prefer to play that once its fixed over the new graphics plugin for adrenaline that allows gta to run at the vita native resolution. That plugin makes the game very very slow but it looks amazing. 

 

Otherwise i still play that graphically broken version just to poke around the full map with all the extras added.

This mod should be rebuild on VC engine. Everything in VCS acts as VC - sounds, radio, physics, peds, guns, flying in the sky, loading screens between two islands. Only handling is similar to SA (and it can be easily edited), adding bike and swimming shouldn't be a problem. But most important are PHYSICS.

I'm curious. is the combat system from VCS in this conversion yet? I always loved being able to do throws and break peoples' necks. Something I wish GTA SA had a cleo mod for. Also regarding the previous poster, it's not quite the same. It was a heavily modified Vice City game engine yes, However, as I stated above there were things added. Including a special melee combat mechanic that vice city and even San Andreas didn't have.

 

Edit: so turns out the melee system from VCS isn't in.... I'm a bit disappointed because it should be possible with CLEO scripts if one really wanted to.

OK, so to highlighjt this one, we've changed a lot of code and such so that it's closer to VC than SA, vehicle handling in Stories in near enough exactly the same as SA, radio we've already got done (what's the difference to you now?), Physics/Flying in the sky? Could you go into more details on this one. Sounds we're aware of and working on ways to improve that, it's possible, have you ever seen the GTA Underground mod? Thought that works as making things more SA-like, the same methods can be used in reverse.

 

Also, loading screens between islands? You want those? We can force them, but it's literally a no need thing.

Well, to be honest, sometimes the game glitches out and skip/repeats chunks of audio because it still uses SA system. Would be cool to replace it with the classic, single file system, eventually.

EDIT. Think I should clarify. This mod does not get all the praise it deserves. Unlike any other SA mod, this one is unique in that it does not feel like SA anymore, it's a completely different game, it mimics VCS as perfectly as technically possible, and y'all've put a lot of effort into it which I'm eternally grateful for.

In SA you can fly above the clouds. Also you should Block diving underwater and disable SA cheats. Oh i forgot about falling,he should fall and roll like Tommy.

You haven't played the latest build have you?

Missions are not being worked on because there's nobody who does it.

Personally I would stick with the SA engine. the Engine mechanics are overall more fleshed out and it has features the Vice City Engine (which both Stories games used, albeit enhanced) doesn't.  To me VCS and LCS felt like a downgrade from SA.

 

Also I have a bug report. After getting kicked out of the army and completing Phil's first mission, I saved in the barracks and now I can't get out of them. The warp marker disappeared so I'm literally trapped inside the barracks now. I mean I could just start a new game but....

You should, link is in the first post, changes after the main BETA 3 build have mainly just been engine changes, you'll notice now that the game now has the full 24 hour timecyc, all VCS weathers, etc, diving is disabled, there's VCS cheats, some SA stuff has been removed or tweaked, etc.

 

No additional missions have been worked on though and the current build is worse off for missions due to the changes not being fixed in the script. (We have no scripter).

 

@Glisp As I mentioned above, there are some bugs in the current script due to the engine changes not being adjusted for it, being able to save in the army base after being kicked out is one of them 😛

I wonder if for the next version you can add the rain in 2D Since it makes it more similar to VCS and VC and also add the option to alternate the graphics of VCS between those of the original PS2 version and the new ones of @Ash_735.
