What style? We have the DDS files for the current ones (without an alpha channel as it's now handled by code instead), or the BETA2/3 early style which had it's own Alpha Channel for the Radar files, we have those backed up as TXD, the Radar files were saved as uncompressed anyway to retain quality.

I did every single mission for Phil, Marty and Louise, then i can't get more missions, i thought that Louise wants to kill Marty but i cant do it because there are no missions. I tried to wait but it didnt helped. How can i solve this problem ? My game is up to date. By the way, in this mod to GTA SA i can buy buildings like in real Vice City Stories ?

The guy who has no idea how difficult and time-consuming it is to script the missions, make them work well, convert cinematics and the map/vehicles/rest...

We're sorry this Non-Profit Unofficial Mod done without any source code is taking longer than you expect, I'll be sure to lock Silent up in a dungeon next time I see him.

 

Note: Missions are the most difficult and also the most boring thing to do, last time we did them in full focus I could practically recite every bit of dialogue, error message, mission failed text, etc, of the first four missions as if they were as important as my own children*

 

 

*I don't have any children, that makes it more f*cked up.

@Japencky I think you can guess why that reaction after you last sentence from #14833, as if it should already be beyond its current state because "years of dev"...

This isn't the kind of series or engine where you can just drag and drop assets from a previous game into it and get it kinda working, ala ArmA. If it were, I'm sure that they'd have released a version with all of the missions as is, and then fix any messes on top of that. If they could get away with copy and paste porting, I'd imagine it'd be like a "here it all is plopped in, tell us what the hell doesn't work" kind of thing. I know that's how I approached things when I tried getting ArmA I's campaigns playable in ArmA II, and for that series and that engine, it actually worked. I don't think GTA is really that simple, though.

 

Think of how tedious it is to essentially reconfigure every mission the game offered in a game like this. They have to prepare and set up 59 working missions, and that's not even considering the side stuff. From what I can see of the updates and wee bits of progress, they want to first make a solid foundation for the game itself in terms of assets and quality. Then comes the missions on top of that. Think like a cake; the missions are the icing, but the foundation has to be made first.

 

Let them focus on making the game world up to the standards they want, then they can focus their time on getting the content to match said standards. That may take some time, but if it really bothers you, there are two routes you can take: you can either play the game on PCSX2 right now as the title is fully playable there even if it's missing things like 60fps and sharp image quality that this conversion offers, or you can find a way to help them move their efforts forward to accomplish your desire of more missions. I know if I had any chutzpah here, I'd help. Instead I'm like a cheerleader nobody notices, rooting the efforts on because I dig it.

 

Also, most of all: remember this is being done and offered for free. I think that disqualifies the idea of "when will it be done you've had all the time in the world" kind of jazz. Let them twerk it out at their own freakuency.

People keep asking us for a date but that's something we're not even sure of ourselves, the project is sorta low priority with Silent at the moment as he's gearing up on finishing GInput and then moving on to finalising SilentPatchSA, so that's his priority, people gave him money for that so it's right up there on what needs to be done. Everyone else wise, we've just been cleaning up the map like crazy, looking for ways to make it look better, literally going over each area again and again to make sure each texture looks as good as it can be, a huge thanks goes to Jestic, who has been helping us remake some more VCS specific textures, etc, truth be told I don't even have a final version of the map in HQ, once I finish an area, I switch back to low res textures because tools like MapEd, etc, don't work with newer texture formats and just crash, so yeah, I'm yet to see all these areas/generics updated at the same time, which I'm hoping will look pretty damn good.

 

Even remade some particle effects, I made a Twitter post about that, so brought those up to GTA PC standard now and looks pretty clean and nice in game. Been doing a tree restoration thing too, because Rockstar removed trees from the game because of PSP limits, and then when the PS2 version came around, someone just seemed to add those back in at random, so now we've taken the time to refine and match it closer to how it looks in Vice City PC (as well as now using the draw distance values from the PC version as well) so now these lovely trees spawn further and many places on the map are much more rich now (Especially Starfish Island!!!), here's just a quick log of the tree/foliage changes done on the map, again, check out Starfish Island edits!

Again I think I posted a picture or two of that on Twitter, just other general fine tuning stuff really as my main goal is to make sure the remastered areas of the map just look nice and up to the quality people expect from a PC version, we've even been installing other Rockstar titles as I've found VCS shares textures with Manhunt, San Andreas and GTA3, and again it's great to have Jestic on board with that helping with making new textures and edits to make my work load less.

 

So there's your detailed VCS post some of you have been waiting for. :p

That stuff surprises me, to go the whole way like that. I would never, ever assume to look for how accurate trees are in reference to a later game chronologically. I'd often chalk it up to "well, in the span of two years they've redeveloped parts of the city" to explain any sort of difference.

Ash, haven't you seen Rockstar with their "final release dates, no more delays"? A lighthouse on the horizon wouldn't hurt. I'd say, the 6th of June.
