The 30-second limit is dumb. However about the underwater, it's up to the devs if they want it to stay and implement(or not) a future seabed collision.

If people are so against Swimming, then we'll find a way to use that, how about a 15 second swimming limit? tounge.gif We'll also reduce the running speed by 80% since apparently Vic is the worst soldier ever. biggrin.gif

And problems starts when modder thinks that his desitions is better than desitions of the actual developer of the game confused.gif

That's why it's a mod, not a port

If it's a direct port, then yeah, complain about the unoriginal stuff all you want. VCS PCE is a mod, the team works on bringing VCS to P2 with enhancement and improvement. Asking them to disable certain stuff just to get an imperfect port to PC is not fair

Heck, when BETA3 come out, just go ahead and mod it the way you like. Nobody cares

OK, had words, and swimming will not be touched in BETA 3, we MAY do something about it though on future updates since apparently it's a massive issue to you guys, but if I may bring up something, Rockstar themselves altered swimming for GTA IV, Niko and the rest can swim for multiple minutes in game before Health starts to drop, and even when the health starts to drop, you have like a minute to get out of the water.

Now, I am strictly AGAINST the 30 second limit, we're already on a deadline, so for now, swimming will remain as is. We'll be thinking of ideas how to get around it for future versions.

If we're bringing back the negatives, should we bring back the broken garages? The glitching audio when driving at high speeds? The collision errors that we have fixed, should they be ditched because they wern't done by Rockstar?

Bugs is a bugs, game features is a game features. Different things.

I don't want to make a disputes here, I will always be a fan of your project, doesn't matter what. Just don't forget what you do and why you do it. If R* made 30 sec. limit then maybe it was for purpose, maybe it was for some kind of realism feeling, i don't know, but it IS a game feature and it have a it's purpose. But I just expressed my opinion. It's your project and it's your right to decide what you need. Just try not to lose VCS feeling.

Who DIES after swimming for 30 minutes? tounge.gif At least in GTA IV which near enough used the same style, Niko would be in the water for like 6 hours before he started to pass out, so, perhaps, would you be happy if we at least extended the limit to around 60 or 120 seconds, to at least give players SOME chance of swimming exploration without punishing them for daring to go into the waters.

Explore what? There's nothing underwater.

Maybe placing something like oysters from SA to unlock the Beta Suit, a car or something? Everything has an use.

I REALLY like that idea since I still don't know where the BETA Wet Suit should unlock, but yeah, we've decided that we'll hold a poll on the website and let people vote in regards to underwater diving and Swimming Limit, that way we can get the views from ModDB, here, etc, to get a more rounded view, so whatever the outcome, all we can say is that the most wanted will be done.

edit: ACTUALLY, I like that idea soo much, here's what I want to propose to you people...

PRE BEACH PATROL: No Underwater Diving, 60 Second Limit on Surface (twice default VCS)

POST BEACH PATROL: Underwater Diving Unlocked, Unlimited time on Surface (like default game), basic San Andreas Underwater Breathing

Would people be happy with that?

In original VCS, are you able to dive or to at least look under the water at all?

Follow up question: If you could dive, for how long? What kind of waterbed is there in original VCS?

I got an idea. Just keep it SA style. Easy.

Or GTA IV style above water. Basically, the bar is slower. On GTA IV I think you drown faster in MP, and I'm not sure if you drown in SP or if it takes for ever.

On VCS when the East Island is locked, if the player tries to swim over there, the current increases and you can't swim any further tward the East Island.

No you could not, all you could do was Swim on the surface for 30 seconds, and then swim on the surface for as long as you want after completing Beach Patrol.

Oh now it makes sense. The 30 second limit was put in so you can't swim to East Island before the bridges open.

Hmmm, if you're gonna tweak with that, you're gonna have to deal with this as well.

@Ash: tbh, making a waterbed sounds like a last priority thing that would take a lot of time.

As I said earlier, you guys should put limit in swim in Beta 4 / Beta 5, when the "Beach Patrol" mission will be already done. Just my opnion.

It's actually NOT the reason, because it would take less than 30 seconds to swim from Starfish to Washington Beach West, the game has a barrier of waves preventing you from passing it, like an invisible wall, so the swimming limit had no affect on that, you were pushed back regardless.

There's already a seabed in the game, just not solid, I can't imagine it would take that long to generate a collision map for it since it's mainly all flat surfaces.

edit: A quick representation of said barrier...

In VCS it isn't a collision. At the barrier and east of it, if Vic is swimming in the water, the waves push him west at the same speed that he swims at. That makes it so if he tries to swim east he stays in the same spot.

I think the only way to satisfy everyone is creating two versions - one for purists with limited swimming, removed all your fixes, addons - let them have "pure VCS experience", and second version with all addons for rest.

Some questions:

Will you try to modify the car lights system to be close to be close to VC/VCS system or it is very hard/nearly impossible like the airplanes propellers?

Are there still front lights bug in cars like Cholo Sabre - if you look at the lights you can see through them and notice car model from the interior?

Will Beta3 have gang zones - you know Rednecks driving around trailer park, Cubans in Little Havana, Cholos in Little Haiti and Bikers around the Greasy Chopper bar. Will you also make some gangs hate each other - you know - for example when Cuban meet a Cholo they start to fight

I think it isn't an issue. I probably shouldn't of asked about it. Caused two pages of debate.

Like climbing, I think not being able to dive in VCS is silly. Vice City does have a full seabed so why the f*ck not? They would just have to add the endless sea floor that SA had. (At least one that goes outside the map bounds as in all III era GTA's except SA, there is "fixed" water that goes out as far as the eye can see in the play area.) Features like this can easily be avoided. But for a little bonus, I think that the underwater timecyc lighting should be modified to look more tropical.

I'll definetly prefer extended and fixed version. If I want to have pure VCS experience I power on my PS2.

This sounds a little egoistically you know. Not everyone have a ps2 and not everyone have a pc powerful enough to emulate vcs with good fps and decent graphics. For someone vcs pc edition is the only way to finally play vcs.

Since the 30 second breathing limit has no actual use. I'm starting to suspect it was put in there as a gimmick reward for Beach Patrol.

If I may, I vote for removing it completely. The only 'issue' is adding a cool reward for Beach patrol.

so something like:

PRE BEACH PATROL: Unlimited time on Surface, basic San Andreas Underwater Breathing (max lung stat plz)

POST BEACH PATROL: Spawn a fast Jetski near the beach maybe?

Personally I would want both the 30 second limit pre Beach Patrol and no climbing (especially no climbing) most people are going to disagree by the look of it though. I don't own a PS2 or VCS I basically just want a port how R* would've done it diving wouldn't make much of a difference though and it might not make sense putting the limit in before you can do Beach Patrol but I think it future versions they should be an option to disable climbing and enable the 30 second limit until unlocked.

Wow, how did I only find this topic now? This is a great idea and I'm glad to see that it's going well at the moment. (I'm just hoping that it will work with my copy of San Andreas...)

EDIT: Works perfectly! Can't wait until the next beta is released!

I cant believe people are making a big drama just cuz theres diving and free swimming.

It's simple drama queens: if you dont want to swim or dive, dont do it.
