Dr Deborah Birx: White House virus expert quits over holiday travel

tbh not surprised she'd do this especially after she sat by and sat by and said nothing while Trump suggested drinking bleach and still said nothing afterwards until after others had to come out and publicly tell people not to drink bleach.

Lost all confidence in her after that

Apparently, there's even a newer strain in the UK that came from South Africa, and is different to the other recent strain but just as contagious.

I still can't believe the nations have not signed a political ceasefire and rallied together agaisnt this plague.

Instead we have "Country X vaccine bad, Country Y vaccine bad, it hasn't been tested before, that vaccine causes paralysis, OH NO WE MUST RELEASE OUR VACCINE WITHOUT TESTING, we ain't buying Country Y vaccine, because Country Y is a asshoe, we spoke with Country A about that we shouldn't buy Country Y vaccine, but we ain't getting any vaccine before Country A has vaccinated everyone at home, so we are asking Country B to give us some vaccine, that they bought from Country Y, but we won't buy it from them because Y are asshoe."

We are in midst of a political insanity.

Welp, the English strain has arrived here in Japan. Because apparently it is impossible for some f*cking people to not travel internationally during a f*cking pandemic.

Unfortunately I tell you it is not because they want to. In my case if I didnt return to the US my family was about to starve to death I had no job my wife was discharged from her work as a nurse for her asma, pregnant, AND I have a 7 year old boy.

I figure there is a lot of people around the world in the same or worse situation. When I was in Peru awaiting for my flight I met so many people who had been waiting months to get back home with cancelled flights you would not believe. It is inevitable.

Aren't we been developing vaccines against Chinese and Italian strains and how effective will be the vaccines against English strain?

Heh. An arms race against Nature.

Covid also causes impotence.  But I’m guessing those same people ignored that news when it came out.

I'd rather fire blanks. I'll be getting my vaccine tomorrow through work. Anybody that has a problem with this can gargle my entire dick and balls. It's weirdly comforting to know that smoking is also one of the biggest contributors towards impotence and most people I speak to that seem to deny the vaccine communicate from behind a cloud of second hand cigarette smoke like a recently divorced genie.

Helped the mobile team in my area set up a temporary area for vaccinations at work today. I must admit it felt very surreal when they all walked through the door. I thought back to the early days of the pandemic in March, way back when we had single figure deaths in the UK. Hindsight can be everything but I don't think anybody knew what was going on, and some days I wonder if anybody really does at all. After a few quick questions I was jabbed, and I had to sit in the foyer for about 15 minutes. I don't know what they were expecting to happen. It still feels surreal that I've been vaccinated at all. My next jab will be in mid-January.

Menstrual Deranged

Even mild cases of this virus can be pretty scary, which I've been learning firsthand since the week before Christmas.

A close family member (but not someone who lives with me) developed an "odd floral smell" in her nose that she couldn't get rid of. This was on a Tuesday and she otherwise felt perfectly fine. Wednesday, she had a bad headache for part of the day, and noticed she'd completely lost her sense of smell and taste. Her sinuses felt a little stuffy/sore, and her nose was runny at times, but this isn't unusual for her due to allergies.

Thursday she went and got tested and it came back positive for COVID on Saturday.

No fever. She said she had a slight cough on and off for a couple days, also nothing unusual for her. It was only when she'd start moving around the apartment to tidy things up that she'd notice her chest felt a little heavy and she was short of breath. For the last few days, she's struggled with low energy, occasional sudden nausea, feeling short of breath if she walks around too much, and difficulty sleeping due to odd "gurgling" sensations in her chest (I'm guessing from inflammation in parts of the lungs caused by COVID). She followed up with a doctor who kind of dismissed her, said she probably didn't need a chest x-ray unless she gets worse because he couldn't hear anything on auscultation. That pisses me off.

She's an otherwise pretty healthy person in her early 30's. No significant medical history other than some moderate heartburn/reflux and mild allergies.

@Menstrual Deranged My doctor doesn't even seem to listen if I ever bother to go. You only get 10 minutes then he fobs you off with some antibiotics or something.

That's not a mild case then. That's at the very least a moderate case, especially if shortness of breath, nausea, and fatigue are involved.

Anyway, my uncle tested positive for the virus today. He has underlying health conditions and chronic fatigue, but despite that, he only has mild symptoms (loss of smell/taste and sore throat).

I'm pretty sure I had it myself from work (20-30 people tested positive) because I felt varying degrees of sh*t for about 2 weeks. Plenty of headaches and odd smell in my noise plus fatigue and feeling like sh*t (not wanting to get out of bed in the morning). However, I'm still getting vaccinated just to make sure. Just don't know when yet.

Um, no, those are fairly mild symptoms compared to what other people have been experiencing. Her chest felt a "little" heavy upon exertion, and she had "slight" shortness of breath. This was all contingent upon how much work she was throwing herself into around her apartment, plus chasing around a toddler. The nausea came when she went running around in a store just a couple days after her quarantine was over. She's also someone who is high anxiety and thinks the littlest sensations will get worse at any minute--especially with everything she's heard about COVID.

I tried to tell her to take it easy for awhile (to avoid more troubling symptoms like chest heaviness/SOB popping up). But I think she was surprised at how great she felt (other than the day she had a headache) and thought she could keep doing her normal routine.

Other than being almost completely asymptomatic, or strictly just loss of sense of taste/smell, hers are some of the mildest symptoms you can hope to have. No fever, barely a cough, no shortness of breath or difficulty breathing or low O2 saturations while at rest, no dizziness or terrible nausea and vomiting, no extreme fatigue.

Mild symptoms, but still troubling. And no way to really know if there is any lung damage to be monitored since the doctor thought a chest x-ray wasn't necessary.

1. How many grands do you need from your government to go through this?

2. Can you decipher "Helicopter Help" or "stimulus"?

For the record, I have not received a cent from my government because of covid, and I won't.

Only benefits I can ever raise, are the ones I have paid by taxes.

Who do call socialist now?

I get all that randomly without coronavirus so I'm f*cked either way😂

I feel like pacman with all the dodging people and finding alternative routes. Was just out walking my dog and saw another guy walking his dog but coughing constantly. Went another way and was about to walk under a small passage under some flats but heard that guy coughing again on the other side so I turned back and went home. I'm not taking no chances with that super coronavirus around that suppsed to spread around kids easier. I literally run away from groups of kids coming towards me. They're a horde as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree. You're comparing these symptoms to more severe and critical symptoms, so of course they're going to seem milder in comparison. That doesn't necessarily make them mild in general. They're at the very least moderate, or close to it. It seems like her shortness of breath is relatively mild and only when she's a bit active, like you said. The fact that it was combined with a fever, fatigue, and nausea (whether that was related to the COVID, I don't know) indicated a moderate case to me. I wish her a speedy recovery, nonetheless.

My symptoms were pretty mild for the most part (loss of smell, headache, burning sensation in nose, pain in eyes as an aftereffect of headache, sore throat, and mild cough). I guess if it's not affecting your daily activities and not making you bedridden, it's safe to say it's a mild case, but I guess you can't always be too sure. I mean, I've had colds and flus that made me bedridden, but I'm not sure if I would label those as moderate-to-severe.

No, she never had a fever. The nausea was mild and only happened once after exertion. Her chest symptoms only came on after exertion. Fatigue was very minimal. The only symptoms that persisted most of her quarantine were the lack of taste and smell.

Any of those symptoms at rest and yes, I'd call it more moderate.

She's fine now. She was afraid she was having lingering symptoms but I suggested some of it might be her ongoing allergies that she always has. I had her take Claritin and the symptoms went away. 🤷

As a nurse, I've had quite a bit of info jammed down my throat as to what constitutes mild/moderate/severe illness with this virus. Also, the two physicians my relative spoke with and the health department all classified her case as mild.

I haven't been reading the thread lately so sorry if this had already been asked but why do people have to wait to be vaccinated if they caught covid before? My mother works in healthcare and she won't be vaccinated because she had covid in late November and she was to wait 6 months with the vaccination.

I can't say for sure how that logic goes pharmaceutically nor politically (according to your government), but if she was infected a couple of months ago, she has most likely been assumed immune to the virus for some period of time (= as it is still unknown how long one's immune system produces antibodies against new infections), thus as vaccines are currently provided in limited quantities, and as of these times, her dose prioritized for someone else nonimmune until greater quantities of doses can be distributed to the rest of the population, including those who have recovered from the disease.

Pharmaceutically, there could perhaps be complications of vaccinating someone already immune (especially so soon after recovery), but I won't make any qualified statement on that.

GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell again pronounced Trump’s bigger checks as a non-starter Thursday, saying it amounts to a windfall for the wealthy liberals.

“Socialism for the rich is a terrible way to help those Americans who actually need the help,” McConnell said.

Yeeeeah f*ck socialism that could actually give people better healthcare, access to higher education and actually a means of living and feeding their familes but nah everybody's as rich as he is and doesn't need any money they're just beggers

Either Moscow Mitch is the suffering from Dementia or he really is that f*cking stupid probably both because apparently he's forgotten that those who make over $100,000 won't be getting any money and these days even $100,000 isn't considered rich anymore with the cost of living going up but yeeeeah No "rich liberals/socialist" will be getting a dime of this money.

For someone claiming to want to help the poor he's doing a sh*tty job doing it and it's funny because most of Trump supporters are living just on or below the median income I guess that must be why he thinks all liberals are "rich"

I truly hope the Georgia run-off go in democrats favor so we can finally kick Moscow Mitch from being the speaker/majority leader and knock his ass down a peg, the republican party is going to have an uphill battle in he next 15-20 years when all these old timer lifer congressmen and baby boomers die off because the upcoming generation of congressmen grew up in a liberal society with most of them being raised as liberals and the extrema conversative values who where raised in the 30's/40's/50's/60's are dying off and new class of voters are coming in and voting against their hardline stances on what liberals are against.

Went back to the lung doctor Friday to get the final results of my test and found out that my O2 stats are still running at just 70% while doing anything besides sitting, even standing my stat drops and he gave me a diagnosis of  Asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (HCC)-pulmonary function test results reviewed FEV1 is 37% predicted, DLCO is 50% predicted with normal total lung capacity suggesting severe obstructive ventilatory defect.

This virus is no joke, Before getting it I had no breathing issues and now I can't stand for more than a few minutes without loosing my breath and if i'm doing a lot of actives it can take 10-15 minutes of sitting down before I can finally catch my breath again so for people think this coronavirus is nothing more than a bad flu, I was healthy with no issues and now I might have to start wearing oxygen on a regular basis
