Just after reading about 20 comments from anti-vaxxers under a local news video and the level of collective mental retardation and cognitive dysfunction will frighten you. There seems to be a lot more of them than I thought. Anti-science and paranoiac nonsense about the government developing the vaccines despite the fact it's private pharmaceutical companies. I'm shocked. The worst is it's in my own country, in western Europe. It's more terrifying when it's so close to home.

These pesky time travelling viruses, starting in one country then jumping back in time a month to infect people on the other side of the world? Is there nothing Covid-19 can't do?!

Yup apparently COVID Antibodies were found in blood donations from the states of Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin as early as December 2019

So there is no doubt COVID was also floating around Europe at the time but whether the EU knew about it is unlikely as most cases mimic flu and pneumonia which is what doctors were still telling people they had until mid-march when it started taking hold because simply there were no test at the time to specifically test for COVID so doctors just had to go off labs and symptoms which showed them the patients had flu and cases of life threatening pneumonia.

Well considering not everybody shows symptoms so just like here in the U.S there were probably millions who had it and didn't show any symptoms the same happened in China not to mention they probably kept news of the virus from their people just like they did the rest of the world for 3 months so people got it without realizing it or thinking it was just typical flu and traveled the world including Europe and the U.S

From the linked article

The study researchers, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), analyzed more than 7,000 blood donations collected by the American Red Cross in nine states between Dec. 13, 2019 and Jan. 17, 2020. Of those, 106 samples tested positive for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The findings suggest "SARS-CoV-2 infections may have been present in the U.S. in December 2019, earlier than previously recognized," the authors wrote in their paper, published Monday (Nov. 30) in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

My point was mainly to say, it's irrelevant where some epidemic or virus starts.

They've been here long before us if I'm correct, and don't need a permission to attack.

Viruses are very nasty because they can exist ages in a hibernation mode, begin a rampage and then retreat back to their hiding place.

I believe this behavior, that seems almost intelligent and premeditated is still boggling the scientists.

Well good news they soon begin to distribute the vaccine, I hope we don't get any side effects like narcolepsy, that was the case with rushed swine flu vaccine.

But you need a great majority vaccinated to win the war on Covid. I heard 50% of Americans and 60% of Russians react suspiciously about vaccination, in other words wouldn't like to take it.

I don't know what's worse here. The goverment or the citizens. The gov doesn't bother doing things to stop the pandemic, our only three counter-measures are masks in-doors, everything works until 5pm and can't have more than 5 people together in the same place. And today they announced that if in 10 days cases don't go down we'll have some more restrictions. This should've been done months ago, yet once again they downplayed the virus and told the citizens how we managed to beat it! Then cases spiked, once, then again recently. The first time, my guess is we were lied to about the actual number of new cases, since many hospitals and testing centers reported many more infected than said. Now we have 7000 per day, and every day many die. The funniest part, our "covid taskforce" members got medals for outstanding work, bravery and stuff, since lying to the people you're supposed to look after is very commendable. Terrible.

The rushed swine flu vaccine was fast tracked without usual clinical trials whereas the Covid vaccine was funded sufficiently, fast tracked and the vaccine was tested thoroughly with the test subjects that's why it got approved rapidly and is already set for deployment.

There has been studies that there are vaccines which can be highly modified to combat pretty much any disease therefore Covid which experts and scientists might have done.

Anti Vaxxers don't believe in vaccines so therefore they won't get one.

I genuinely have no idea what you two are spatting about but let's not.

For future reference, the correct approach when someone makes a vague comment that could be interpreted one of several ways is to ask for a clarification, not post sh*tty meme GIFs.

Bruh, vira have no intelligent design and don't play hide and seek though their disease caves. They exist in secluded viral reservoirs, they mingle around humans apathogenic to those, eventually mutate into another genome compatible of infecting humans and when the sh*t hits the fan, we either quarantine to halt spread or develop a vaccine/develop immunity to coexist with it.

And bacteria are just as dumb as vira, but they are however attracted to whatever nutrition or environment that make them prosper, which may seem intelligent or ''of instinct'', but it is just a matter of chemistry happening before them with no free will whatsoever.

Ultimately, yes, but let's not confuse microbiology with neurochemistry at this moment.

Free will is a philosophical concept not dissimilar to fairness or justice and unique to human society. It doesn't affect other living entities, especially those that don't have self-awareness such as microbes.

What amazes me is the dimension of it and the mass amount of people still dying all over the world because of this. It amazes me the proportion it has taken and how almost a year after being discovered we still are stationed in the same place we started.

I wonder how downsized in numbers humanity is now and what will be of us if this ends EVER.

Talk about army of the 12 monkeys-ish.

Sometimes I wonder if it will be possible to terraform our economy? Make it so our primary, secondary and tertiary economic sectors are built around governmental guidelines regarding COVID rather than haphazardly forced in? Would it be possible?

Hopefully someone smarter than me can answer this question. I'm just not convinced that a vaccine can put an end to this virus for good. I'm no biologist, but pathogens mutated and by my knowledge, if we ever get a vaccine it will almost certainly be outdated. With the rapid spread of the virus in such a short time, the odds of that looks increasingly possible.

Again, I'm no biologist or economist. But will it be possible?

Why would we? We have literally had far worse and way deadlier pandemics throughout history, and the global society as a whole moved on. Governmental guidelines are just temporary measures for a temporary pandemic. There's no need to rewire the economy for a coronavirus.

If SARS-CoV-2 is not brought down through mass vaccination, I believe it will live on as an endemic like the flu. The flu is constantly and rapidly mutating into new genomes, and that's why especially the elderly and weakened receive their yearly vaccine which makes them immune for the current genomes of flu spreading.

Same can be applied to Covid-19. It will in the typical seasons spread and infect among the healthier and younger population as if it was influenza or the common cold, and those who are vulnerable to it will receive a vaccine up-to-date with the current genomes and clusters spreading, as with the flu shot.

The primary cause for these guidelines is to prevent hospitals from being overrun by elderly or otherwise vulnerable patients with Covid-19, as no vaccine is present to keep from being admitted in the first place.

Dave Morris is a small business owner frustrated by the lack of support from local and federal governments. Trillions of dollars of the CARES Act went to big business and Wall Street while small businesses and employees were left to fend for themselves.

Dave understands that the Virus is real and needs to be handled but is calling on the government to help him get the job done. People like him need our empathy and understanding. He is frustrated that his whole livelihood is at risk. He is married with 3 kids and has grandchildren.

Small businesses need money to close up and stay home without ruining their lives, the lives of their employees and customers. This is how we both stop the pandemic and the next Great Depression.

Note: please understand this man is frustrated at the local, state and federal governments lack of support for people like him. We need to understand this situation we are in to its fullest, including those most hurt by it even if you don't fully agree with their message or what side of the isle they sit in.

I thank God my job is the only one that keeps running no matter what. But my last job which was taxi driving in Miami was squashed like a roach and the government does not care less. We relied on tourism so you can imagine how it wiped us out of the map. They said they would release a relief check for us but made us fill a form which nobody was able because the link was broken. Most of us didnt even own a cab most of us rented so it was next to impossible to prove income except through income tax to get a relief check. I had financed a cab and had to give it back with no money in return.

Miami is now mostly a ghost town. 95% of the hotels are closed, cruise ships cancelled, nightlife shut down. Makes me think of how Vegas must have turned into the same.

What saved me was roadside assistance which gives me half the income I used to earn but at least I am able to pay my bills and send some money back home. Took some cash I saved, made a downpayment on a 17 corolla because if nothing worked out i would go do uber or lyft. Till now I didnt have to though since things are working out.
