banned from socializing with anyone outside your household, but they're advising people not to go to sports events???? wow that sure wouldve been useful 2 weeks ago when 300 went to a charity football match at a venue that had a max cap of 150.

I can't believe the 💩 stain of a city (Preston) where I live is in the top 5 for England infection rates. There's nothing here except a university and a brutalist bus station. f*ck everybody for being selfish.

1 in 4 people who went to Preston hospital with coronavirus died apparently. Made me even more paranoid now. Had to walk out of a shop because I saw a guy pull down his mask while coughing everywhere, then touch the freezer lids after coughing into his hands.

So... one of my coworkers got a positive test today and I've been around him every day. Time to open that bottle of hooch I guess.

Me too, ugh. One of our house pediatricians tested positive last Friday. He was last on the unit two days prior. Our floor manager spent a couple days calling people he'd recently worked with/patients he'd recently seen to let them know of the potential exposure. Not a job I would want. Luckily, I had not worked with him recently but I feel like the unit is covered in COVID and I'm constantly wiping everything down.

Another coworker of mine has a daughter who is a nurse at another hospital and she tested positive about a month ago. By some miracle, no one else in the house got sick, including my coworker who has several comorbidities if she were to catch it.

I'm currently working in the NICU, and the labor and delivery unit we're connected to seems to be getting more and more women in labor who are COVID positive (they all get a rapid screen for it as soon as they come through the door). A lot of them are not symptomatic (sometimes this is because they haven't started having symptoms yet), but we've been seeing more who are symptomatic. Been hearing of more and more coworkers with kids at home who have symptoms of COVID since school has started back up. Staff have been fighting a bit because many of us believe they shouldn't be coming in to work until their symptomatic family members get ruled out. My teenage daughter is currently doing virtual learning, but I have to share her with my moron ex-husband and he and his wife have their daughter in in-person preschool now. A couple weeks ago, their daughter had a cough and runny nose and they instructed my daughter not to tell me about it so I wouldn't "freak out" (my daughter told me anyways).

When I found out my ex was trying to hide illness symptoms at his house from me, we got in a big fight over the phone. Not only is it dangerous to me and my family, but also to my patients and coworkers. I told him I wanted to keep my daughter at my house until he could agree to communicate with me and he threatened to "call the police and have me arrested", and reminded me of the parenting time order on our divorce decree, something I'm almost certain his wife put him up to. He's such a spineless gutless puke of a puppet simp. I told him to go ahead, call the police, maybe we'll get CPS involved while we're at it and tell them all about how his wife spanked my daughter a couple years ago and also threatened to abandon her and divorce her dad when my daughter was having issues with her GAD/OCD.

At this point I feel like a sitting duck. There are several personal variables I want to have more control over in this pandemic but I don't and it's frustrating.

It doesn't mean that you were infected though.

Here's what happened to me. I got out of isolation yesterday after spending 14 days in the same apartment with my sister who tested positive for Covid-19. They wouldn't even test me, they just assumed that I was also positive and told me not to leave the apartment the next 14 days. I also assumed that I was positive and asymptomatic so I wasn't really careful to avoid my sister at all costs. We drank coffee together, watched movies, played video games etc. As soon as I got out of isolation, I went to get tested at a private clinic before going back to work on Monday. I had to show proof that I am no longer contagious. But It turned out that I never had the f*ckin' thing. My best guess is that my sister didn't have the necessary viral load to transmit the virus to others. Which also might explain her mild symptoms. I'm a bit pissed, honestly. I wanted to be done with this and gain some immunity for the winter.

Is this whole "viral load/viral dose" thing actually true? Like, can someone get a lower viral load than someone else, which can deem them less infectious than that person? And does the viral load determine whether you will have mild symptoms or severe symptoms? I suspected that we may have had a low viral load/viral dose back in late March, since we got relatively mild symptoms (loss of smell, sore throat, usual cold/congestion-like symptoms except no sneezing or stuffy/runny nose). My mum is in the risk group (she has anemia and rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease, and her health isn't the best), yet she only had two symptoms, surprisingly: loss of smell and sore throat. Hell, she had no idea it was a COVID and even insisted that it was just a mild cold. We all recovered successfully within a few weeks.

So if it is true, then we probably contracted a lower dose of the virus, but wouldn't the virus just replicate inside the body to a higher dose? I wonder how it all works.

This would depend on the body's ability to keep it in check, but my estimate of what happened to Yokel is that his sister's test was probably a false positive. I know a few people who've tested positive, quarantined, then been retested with the antigen test and it's turned out they never had it in the first place.

I'm not sure if this is caused by the test itself of simply the volume of tests being processed meaning some mistakes are made.

Nope. She was in contact with a Covid-19 positive person and she had all the symptoms a couple of days later. She felt like someone had placed a heavy weight on her chest, and she couldn't breathe all the way for a few days. Even after the quarantine she would get an uncomfortable feeling in the chest and get tired going up the stairs. And she's very much into sports and the gym, so it's not about poor conditioning. She also lost the sense of smell and taste which persisted throughout the quarantine and she had a high temperature for the first few days. Nothing serious, when all things are considered. But she definitely had it.

Another factor that might have contributed to what happened is the fact that I've been taking 2000 IU of vitamin D per day for the past couple of months. And more and more studies are showing that it plays a significant role.

It's times like these I wouldn't mind being with some isolated self-sustaining monks in an abbey. I'm not religious but anything's better than this. Would rather pray and eat potato soup than dodge hordes of potential coronastudents.

The idea of false positives is an interesting one, and one I don't quite understand. At work, we were expecting an admission since the beginning of May, but we couldn't go ahead to secure funding because each weekly test kept throwing positive results at us. This lady was in her late 70s, and this had been going on for nearly eight weeks. Each test kept reporting a positive result, but if things are to be expected regarding condition and age, she shouldn't have lived through that duration. She finally received a negative result and she was admitted that same week with thorough PPE use and appropriate screening. Advice from our public health department suggested that false positives could be flagged due to inactive strains of the virus living in proteins, and it was likely she had COVID at some point but survived. It's such a strange situation and one I hadn't yet encountered. This woman was as fit physically as you could expect, though her mental health had deteriorated due to a dementia diagnosis from 2017. Obviously we were skeptical as management because in my experience, social workers are leeches and are very keen to poach off vulnerable members of the population to make their district look good. However, there was no reason to suggest this woman was contagious after all this time.

Prince Charles apparently had it and is completely fine, and he's in his 70's. Being old doesn't guarantee that you will die from the virus should you contract it, but it does increase the risk. Like you said, overall health also plays a role.

Not at all, but the odds were considerably against her given her condition and health. It also made me wonder how long you could physically have the virus.

So if Trump were to die, Biden would have to compete against Pence?

What happens to the early voters who voted for Trump, are their votes counted for Pence?
