Why did friends/girlfriends start calling me more frequently?

So, last night, I was playing GTA IV on the XB1, and suddenly, friends kept calling me literally every 5 minutes, which never happened to me before when I was playing on PC.

 

I know GTA IV is notorious for its frequent phone calls, hence the "let's go bowling" meme, but it was never that bad for me. Hell, Roman even called me to go play darts even after me accepting Dwayne's request to go bowling which NEVER happened before.

 

Is this a glitch or was it always this bad?

I don't know the technical answer but it does seem like the calls sometimes get "backed up", where you don't get any for a while (particularly if you do lots of missions/activities that prevent you getting calls without much time in between to allow calls to come through), and then they all come at once. Happens most often with girlfriend calls for me but I've had it with the friends as well. Don't know if it's considered a glitch or if it's just the nature of having so many different calls scheduled to happen at certain intervals with limited time between doing different activities for them to get through, or if there's just something about the way it's programmed that can mean when it decides it's been too long since one friend called you it triggers the same thing with others. 

 

I suspect with the girfriends at least it might be deliberate so it's like you have all these girls calling and you have to choose which one to date that day. There's the thing where Kiki can start stalking you (appearing in cutscenes as you enter food places with other dates, calling to demand to know where you are, texting you accusing you of being with other girls, vandalising your car when you go in for "coffee" with other dates) if you set up a date with her but then cancel and go on a date with another girlfriend instead. So they might've made the girlfriend calls come together (like sometimes you'll set up a date with one and then one or more of the others will also call or text for a date while you're on your way to it, or you'll simply get texts from all three at once each requesting a date) to make that more likely to happen. But again I don't know for sure.

That's probably the case, I don't think I haven't got a phonecall in a minute until Packie called me, and not even 10 seconds after I drop him off, Kate calls me and so on.

Should be some kinda inconsistency of IV. Used to happen to me too, but not all friends calling at once.

They're calling you because Roxtar's servers are down and they can't play GTAO.

Yeah it is a glitch, happened to me nearly 2 years ago. It started when Packie called me to play darts even though I just barely got done drinking with him seconds ago so I thought it was whatever. Suddenly on my way to pick him up, Jacob called me to eat. Seemed normal so I cancelled his plans. But after hanging out with Packie, the calls never stopped and they just spread. All the friends kept calling me no matter how many times I denied or had barely hung out with them. Every second I had to endure that.

 

It got bad enough to where it somehow affected the story. Each time I walked into a yellow marker, missions would never start. I put my phone on sleep mode but even THAT didn't work. I died and got busted several times but still nothing. This was the most frustrating because that never happened until this glitch started. So I had no choice but to say "f*ck it" and restart the game. It sucked I was gonna lose all my progress but it was the only solution. Surely that would have fixed everything, right?

 

Well, right after I completed The Cousins Bellic, I ran to Roman's cab debot and went up to the yellow marker - I dare you to guess what happened next. I absolutely dare you.

 

 

 

Give up?

 

It was impossible to start It's Your Call.

 

So I said "f*ck it" again and had no choice but to play on another account.
