Awful Waffle
we go to a lot of car shows around here and this has been a hot topic, lately. especially since orders and delivery are now around the corner. this seems to be an extremely polarizing vehicle. for instance, is this a blatant and shameless ripoff of McLaren or Ferrari? not the fact that it's mid engine of course, but it seems as though entire angles and specific lines were lifted straight from Robert Melville or Pininfarina's sketchbook. personally I think it's difficult to go mid-engine without looking like some kind of Ferrari - just as a point of concept - but I'm also not convinced that it's ripping off so much as paying homage. that being said, I can definitely understand the sentiment, because you probably wouldn't blame a casual (non car fanatic) from mistaking the new Corvette as some kind of Lamborghini at a glance. it is what it is. at the end of the day I'm more worried about the accessibility of the entry level price point. this thing is going to cost a slim fraction of what your typical mid-engine performance car is selling for. over the last 50 years or so, the average dealership requests for Corvette in a calendar year are around 20,000 vehicles that Chevy plans to produce. for this new Corvette? dealerships have already reported almost 200,000 individual requests. more than anything, I'm just worried this car will become the new Mustang, except jacked up with bull shark testosterone. like it's already bad enough going to any car show in America and seeing row after row of bone-stock Corvettes lined up next to each other... all owned by the same step-dad-looking 40-year old... just imagine how many of these things you're going to start seeing now. it'll be the new mid-life-crisis mobile. you know all those videos we love; when some brand new Mustang does a burnout and nearly kills a bunch of pedestrians standing on the sidewalk? yeah I'm afraid that pretty soon those are all going to be videos of the new Chevy https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2020/02/21/new-mid-engine-corvette-accelerating-sales-and-change-chevrolet/4817306002/ https://www.motor1.com/news/387364/2020-chevy-corvette-c8-sold-out/ so what does everybody think? I can still see both sides. it's kinda cool having an accessible super car which can be serviced at any gas station along the highway, I guess. but I'm definitely gonna' get annoyed when these things start outnumbering the Camaro. jpm1
my 2c, i love the tiny price. you can have a nice American beauty, and have fun, while staying appropriate, and not being provokative. Great move from Chevrolet Edited February 21, 2020 by jpm1
Tchuck
Don't like the styling too much. It looks a bit too try-hard-look-at-me-i'm-fast! Also the idea of a mid-engine Corvette is still meh. Incredibly priced, though. Excellent cost-benefit if you want a really fast car. Too bad it'll come to Japan costing double... Lurch
I think the Ferrari/Mclaren looks are very much intentional. Trying to make it look like it's something a 1% would buy. Definite status symbol because to people that don't know cars, they'd honestly think that was a Ferrari. I think a lot of car manufacturers do the same thing with crossover SUV's. Girl I know bought a new Rav4 because it looked so much like a Range Rover Evoque. People dig that sh*t for some reason. On the other hand, with the way cars are designed these days, there's only so many ways to skin a cat, especially with a mid engine car that size. It's always going to look super exotic with the big air scoops down the side and that general profile. Hell, I've driven my dad's 20 year old MR2 Spyder before and people have asked if it's a Porsche. Certain shapes just get associated with those cars. RamiTR
From the start I was very happy with the way the C8 Corvette looked both in terms of exterior & interior. It seemed to me that they managed to make a mid-engine 'vette without it looking awkward or forced like some of the renders that have been floating around the internet for a while now. However, I did have some doubt in whether or not it would look as good in person as it did in photos. I got a chance to see the C8 Corvette at the 2020 Philly Auto Show a few months ago & I was immediately hooked when I saw it on the small stage they had. It doesn't look as busy as it does in photos, it looks much cleaner, sleeker & overall more well put together. It's not overly aggressive with it's styling, but still seems like a good platform to make something crazy like the C8.R they recently made. The side vent is still there, the quad tail lights are still there & the styling is very reminiscent of the C7, especially from the front. It looks like a natural evolution of the Corvette without seeming like a forced step forward. Here is my favorite picture I took of the C8 Corvette at the Philly Auto Show. sivispacem
I like the C8, but that particular angle is seriously unflattering. Flachbau
I got to see it at Epcot in Disney World. Slick looking car, a little over-designed imo.. phenomenal performance for the value though. Not the place I imagined to see it lol, but no complaints here. Tchuck and Ivan1997GTA
Mr Philips The Gey
let me just say slapping a v8 at the back of a car and making the front look too short looks stupid the designer removed the greatness off the corvette he must be a retard
