It depends on how you feel about open world games.

If you like to roam around, explore, make your own fun while incorporating ready made content, then definitely.

It will be frustrating, yet still fun.

There are a lot of discounts and free stuff for new RDO players right now, so it's a good time to start.

A lot of the initial (and later) bugs have not been worked out yet, though so be prepared.

Also, there are differences in some game mechanics apparently.

I haven't played single player, just not my thing, but jumped into RDO the moment it was released on PC, definitely worth it for me, I love open world games.

So, yes, great game, with reservations and limitations to that enthusiasm, but massive potential is there if they ever get around to expanding and exploiting it.

I enjoy playing online...tho i do have a regular group that i get on with

Its been a buggy lately...but its still pretty good times IMO....

Edir: it's enjoyable enough for me that I've been on everyday since the frontier pursuits dlc released in september

Give it a try, there are lots of things to do, I play solo and I have fun even with the current bugs, that imo are not game breaking.

It really has not been worth it for new players for a while.  I think PC might be ok for new players as long as you do not mind the occasional mod menu user.  Console versions are plagued by the no animal spawns

If you arent into hunting, and more of a pvp type, then yeah its still worth it.  All the missions and pvp content seems to be working fine.  There are work arounds to getting animals but they are annoying.

online is worth playing anytime..

there are showdowns that are always full of players.. many of them are fun,

complete the online story which is cool..

get yourself a bounty license if you wanna have those "marston and sadie's days of bounty hunting" vibes..

if you lke easy and profitable buisness like the bunker in gta online get a moonshine shack..

or go as a collector if you enjoy calmness and exploration which gonna benefit you a lot of money..

just stay away from the trader role or anything related to animals in rdo for now cuz there is a bug recently with animal spawning.. there is also some other bugs like the camp won't spawn sometimes or you can get stuck at an infinite loading screens.. but don't worry the online is fine and fun and definetly worth trying..

The biggest problem with trading, is that it's way more labor intensive than anything other 'business'.

Bounty hunting obviously doesn't fit that description, either do that or not depending on your play preferences.

The camp is very useful for filling up with stew, a quick wash (which you can't get anywhere else, oddly), and replenishing your ammo and supplies.

You can get your supplies from any post office, but your camp offers all in one spot, and there is actually an award for collecting things form the camp box which gives 0.4 gold every time you roll it over.

Selling trader goods is good XP and money when you have ranked up enough to get the large wagon full of 100, just like shine is good once you've unlocked the top tier brews.

Collector is more easily accessed, and you can just pick up things while doing other activities and eventually it pays off rather well, and the XP for selling sets is excellent.

It generally depends on your playstyle, and there's no reason to do stuff you don't like.

OK. Thanks. I love open world games too. They my favorite. I might give RD Online, a try.

You also get a great single player game for free!  (sorry, kinda an inside joke against those that claim RDO is a free addon to single player, so we have no right to complain about it's problems).

Anyway, if you love playing your own game at your own pace, and making your own decisions on how to go about it, you will enjoy this game.

It could be better, but it could be much worse.

it's got loads of potential, and what's in it right now is fun for quite a while.
