We don't even get the loading percentage on PC, it's lottery time whenever a black screen comes up, you never know if it's loading or trolling.

My experience since playing after recent patches is that lobby size is still the prime problem with animal spawning.
An optional small lobby with a size of a maximum of 8 should be what R* trys next.

Then i sometimes think how different it would all be if the problem was fog or rain.
Would there be many complaints if fog or rain stopped spawning in large lobby sizes?
Would players use tricks to get in to a solo lobby so they could play in the rain or fog that they enjoy so much?
Would many players complain that after patches that there is still not enough rain or fog?

Sure would be nice to play for a few hours in lobby of 20+ with lots of animals but no rain and no fog.

Since there is no business, which depends in Fog or Rain, I wouldnt even notice it for weeks.

I haven't seen a lobby with less than 22 people since I don't even remember.  Oftentimes I see 27, 29, 30 people in lobbies I'm in on PS4.  

 

I have never once seen an animal in any of the pens around the map.  Not a single solitary time.

It's been a hit or miss for me, I usually join a lobby and find some animals spawning, other times I spend the whole time looking for animals and find none.

I did encounter a grave robber random event while in a lobby with 24 players. I remember not encountering any of them after the release of the Moonshiner update, possibly due to the same issues as animal spawns.

 Different for everyone I guess.  I'm PS4 too I dont think I've ever seen more than 25.

For me a typical player amount ist 20-24 Player. 

 

Animal spawns are a bit better, but there is still much to do. But I can confirm the spawn of random encounters, which I havent seen for months

My niece asked me the other day how they can call Emerald Ranch a "Ranch" if they don't have any animals.  At first I thought she was making a joking comment based on the bug, but because she only recently started she actually has never seen an animal there.  I explained that back when animals did spawn, you couldn't go near the place on "skin a rooster" daily objective day.

I was in a lobby with 32 players once.

Needless to say, nothing was working.

Same here; animal spawns are very erratic, and only a handful of pens seem to have at least some animals reliably: Flatneck Station and Emerald Ranch (but still fewer animals than before at Emerald Ranch).

 

The auction animals at Valentine were non-existent this past weekend. All the smaller pens around Valentine were also completely empty, and I was unable to get them to spawn by riding away and coming back.

 

Comical when you have NPCs standing around staring at empty pens...

Its sad when R* cant even get static animal spawns to work. You literally place one marker in the middle of the pen that says "Pig spawn here" then add the number of spawns you want to it with a incredibly simple "wander" AI package. Its not like Deer that have multiple dynamic spawn points in one area, different AI packages, Predators, pathfinding etc.

Never liked the fog. Rain isn't a bother.

Yeah, it really limits visibility--though this should work in your favor if you're trying to lose the cops (St. Denis) or lawmen (Rhodes, etc.).

It's not that simple. It's more asking the game to spawn it but it replies back saying it can't sync the animal with other players.

I know, I just mean that simple animal behaviours should have been in the first wave of fixes.

Today a total f*cking miss when it comes to animal spawns again. 2 [Whooping Crane] for the daily? Not a chance. 7 medium carcasses? I don't know what I was thinking, trying to get some without resorting to a Legendary Bounty. 

Thanks to Yukon Nik I could at least get the dailies done.

I just jabbed the horse twice and that did me (I'm on a record setting 36 days, lol). My camp and shack icons on the minimal kept flashing and I thought 'nope' and played elsewhere.

 

Not had that before but it lasted the few minutes I was on, lol.

Very true,i couldnt imagine how severe the animal spawn in 20+ player session. Let alone try to find specific animal for daily.

 

I started the moonshiners mission and got the 2 whooping crane. But guess what i had to spent more than 30 minutes just to find those 2.

 They are just reminiscing about the days when the animals used to be there. Old mate in the middle is just walking away sadly.

I noticed a pattern: when I just spawn into the lobby, there's always some minor activity near my character - a deer, a pronghorn, if I'm close to one of those - a hideout spawn, even. Nothing else. As soon as I ride a couple of step away from the place where I spawned in, it's a desolate wasteland.

 

It's weird but it might actually hold some information that could explain what exactly is going on. There must be a reason why some activity spawns together with me, even in 20+ player lobbies.

If you ride past a player that just logged in for the first time animals spawn for you too around that player!  Played for about 3 hours and saw only like 1 deer when doing bounty and no random encounters..

Old west lawmen weren’t cops, ‘cop’ is short for ‘constabulary on patrol’. Constables are a specific kind of law enforcement consisting of an organised police force set up by the local government like you’d see in most modern cities. Old west lawmen were marshals and sheriffs, and associated deputies. Marshals are/were federal lawmen appointed by the national government, sheriffs were just local citizens of a town elected by other citizens to be the designated ‘lawman’. They were restricted to the county they were based in, and as ordinary citizens had no special federal privileges. 

The St Denis bluebottles are coppers, but not the frontier lawmen.

I could stand 30 minutes of looking and never a whooping crane, so after loading up good ole Nik, and a long ride back to Bluewater, another 5-10 to wait for crane #1, and another 10 for crane #2, that was it for the day, leaving 2 dailies undone.

 

I tried to do it legitimately, but I'm not wasting any more time that that.

That explains why when I load in there are a fair amount of critters, and usually a roadblock nearby, then when I start off toward the roadblock it disappears.

When using Yukon Nik, it is easier to move to Quaker's Cove for [Whooping Crane]. There are always (at least for me) 2 spawning there on the shore, right next to the event site.

So the million dollar question is: what was so bad about the original/"Beta" animal spawn code--that actually worked quite well--that R* needed to gut or replace it, destroying it in the process?

 

Last night (on the PC) was the first time I've ever been in a completely dead game animal-wise. In two hours of game play, I saw one Pelican, one Songbird, one deer, and a few ravens. There were also only a handful of NPCs anywhere in the map, from St. Denis to Armadillo. And only when player count dropped to a mere six players in the session did I see that deer; that should tell us something.

My best guess is that they tried to limit the amount of animals that spawn in certain areas where more players are around to make it more "realistic." Anything could've broken it really, but I just think with it being tied into how many players are in the lobby that they messed with something along those lines.
