What kind of GTA fan are you?

I'm a converted fan of the series since the Classic GTA1 & GTA2 era preceding the SAN ANDREAS CJ icon

that dominates the Rockstar image, became a legendary progenitor of the ADVANCE gamestory.

the kind of fan who loved GTA IV from day one, and was not one of those people who "hated IV, then when V came out, suddenly loved IV and hated V." when i was a kid, i used to take turns with my friends getting a helicopter, flying to the highest point, and jumping out. those were the good old days.

also the kind of fan who thinks that johnny is the most underrated protagonist and that trevor is the most overrated one

The kind of fan who used to prefer almost every single thing about San Andreas to the other titles of the franchise, but slowly started to prefer the grittier, and more grounded, simplistic and consistent styles to the more "Jack of all trades" ones. Preferring GTA III's style and tone the most when it comes to the 3D era, but favoring San Andreas over it as an overall game due to how advanced it is when it comes to mechanics and character development in comparison to it.

I was also really shocked with how fun GTA IV's physics are the first time I heard about it, watched YouTube videos about it, and then finally bought it. Although, by that time, I was kinda too nostalgic towards San Andreas, to the point where I compare several aspects about GTA IV to it and try to see what might be similar between the two games. I had mixed feelings about the grittier and more grounded approach of the game as well. It wasn't really a big issue, and I was actually enjoying it, as it felt somewhat more "mature" and believable to me, if that makes sense, but in the same time, it wasn't too easy for me to adapt to it as much as it was with San Andreas. Now, it's completely different, as GTA IV is my favorite in the series, be it the tone, story, physics, driving, combat, you name it. A reason why The Lost and Damned is higher than The Ballad of Gay Tony in my book as well, ranking the second in the series, just after GTA IV by a slight hair.

As for gang themes, previously, I used to be really into the flashy street gang themes of Los Santos, followed by outlaw biker themes not too long after. Now, it's settled down to the more organized crime themes, especially the Russian mafia. And by the way, I prefer Liberty City's street gangs to those of Los Santos by a margin when it comes to their styles, as they are far less obvious, flashy and try-hard, which reflects how gangs are in New York City in comparison to Los Angeles as far as I know after all.

It seems many of you want a serious story (with eventual/optional comic elements). I just want to specify how i prefer a story with clever humour and memorable quotes over in-your-face bullshyt and serious-only type of story

Oh yeah it has to be a good mix of serious drama and humour. Which was delivered perfectly in GTA IV imo. I don't know how anyone thinks IV is just serious, it's also hilariously funny.

I'm a fun over what fits the character/realism. I prefer to take a tank and make it fly than go bowling. Outside of that, I don't think I fit into any category but rather a mix of several. I'm diehard enough to know too much about the series including how much polygons a typical car has and what resolution texture the road uses. But I'm casual enough in the sense that I barely play GTA anymore because I've grown to appreciate the first 3 games for their open ended design and difficult to use but easy to master mechanics and the games after those have held little interest for me through time.

I'd rather play as my own character or play as an ambiguous unnamed non-talking character than listen to a protagonist I can barely customize whine about his past. I'm one of the few that would love a GTA game outside of the United States, and am in the minority whom thinks the radio in the series was at its best when it was written in-house or licensing relatively unknown cheesy songs.

I have modded every game I've played, and come to the realization that mods are not for me, and will only mod when I'm forced to alas GTAV.

I SERIOUSLY think you would enjoy Saints Row 1. I mean te very first one. Not even the second, just the one and only first one.

I'm a diehard fan. I've grown up with the series and Rockstar in general. I don't mind new fans of the series though and whether it was GTA 1, LCS or GTA V when you started playing, it doesn't matter to me. What I do hate though, is when people who bandwagon for GTA V or RDR2 and act like they know the series in and out and then demand GTA VI after finishing GTA V or YouTubers doing quick GTA Wiki research to gain some knowledge for a video that is usually off the mark.

Despite being a diehard fan, I've never felt as if games like True Crime, Saints Row, The Getaway, etc were GTA clones. I'm sure GTA provided developers with some inspiration but those games were still fun and felt like a little alternative at times.

A dying one. And by that I don't mean I'm actually agonizing.

My enthusiasm for this series and its future certainly is. My first game was VC in 2004, and some of my best memories on internet come from the days of IV's hype train. I consider it one of the best videogames I have ever played, if not the very best. On the contrary, I never found SA particularly interesting. It's a great game, for sure, but it's way less focused than VC and IV, and more aimed to please the casuals. Which unfortunately is the path Rockstar took with GTA V. Seeing the many, many millions they earned with the game, and how much they used it to piss on IV's legacy, only makes me hope for the worst.

extremely stable genius

I play GTAO mostly for the vehicles. Other GTA games just because it's fun to do a playthrough of them. Never cared about storylines that much.

Guess finishing all the damn games 100% and loving the series as a whole might make me a die hard fan. There are certain entries in the series that I like better but that doesn't mean I don't love the rest as well. No series comes close to this franchise for me. I even poured more than a 1000 hours into sh*tty GTA Online. Let that sink in.

I might actually. I do enjoy the other three. though I don't have a 360 sadly and no plans to buy one any time soon. I'm waiting for next gen to be honest.

Oh if you got an xbox 1 you can get it for 5-10 dollars but yeah saints row 1 had a super customizable character that didn't talk, a lit of cheesy songs, the only one in the series that's mostly composed of in house music, and lovely combat that's pretty difficult. Also it doesn't baby you with checkpoints and stuff.

I'm the kind of GTA fan...

-That although I identify myself as a "veteran" of the series I don't feel it's necessary to put myself on a pedestal compared to someone who has been introduced to the series later. It doesn't matter to me whether you started in 1997 or 2020. You're still a GTA fan in my book.

-That doesn't believe "realism" and "fun" are segregated. I always rolls my eyes when someone says about GTA IV especially "they prioritised realism over fun". Ok maybe that's how you feel, but if for example I enjoy taking a stroll around, playing a game of pool etc which are "realistic" then explain how I'm not having "fun"?

-That values story and gameplay as equal companions. I need the story to suck me as much as I do with the gameplay. That's why I've finished GTA IV 13 times.

-That believes having a silent/mute blank canvas protagonist like the GTAO protagonist or Claude for GTA VI would be a really bad move for the series. I'm convinced the main reason I find most RPGs hard to get into is I have no interest in playing me or some other character I've come up with in my imagination.

I'm the kind that tries to enjoy every GTA for what they have to offer to the point that i don't hate any GTA game, although i didn't enjoy TLaD, i didn't hate it, it's just that the setting wasn't my cup of tea and sure there are problems in any GTA.

I really don't understand fanboyism, i always cringe when i see people arguing about what is and isn't the best game, when i play SA i have a good time, when i play LCS i also have a good time, when i play Online i have a good time (i only play solo on empty lobbies), that goes for any GTA as i said above although i didn't enjoy TLaD's biker setting, it did not stop me from playing it every now and then (freeroaming).

Needless to say that GTA is my favourite franchise, i have god knows how many hours sunken in all those games, i also believe it is the only franchise that has such a detailed setting and this is something that i feel is lacking in other games, i cannot help but feel immersed whenever i play a GTA game, because every npc behave a certain way, speak in certain way, do certain things, even the cities and it's neighborhoods are unique in their own ways, which is why i'm always playing GTA since is the only franchise that offers such kinda of detailed setting regardless of iteration.

Sorry if this turned into a ramble i just wanted to say that i really like GTA that's all.
