It seems like they’re trying desperately to make animals work in 20+ player lobbies. 
 

Trying, and failing ☹️
 

At some point I assume they’ll have to bite the bullet and change their lobby switching system to favour <20 player lobbies.

PS Plus Premium is coming soon.

I hope Rockstar isn't waiting for PS Plus Premium to introduce

RDO Invite Only and or Solo sessions for those subscribers.

As much as I want solo / private lobbies, it'll be sad if thats what it takes to ensure we have decent animal spawns and will only cement the segregation of the playerbase.

I'm not complaining about having those lobbies, as I desire them as much as any of you, I'm just saying it'll be sad if its the only way to have decent spawns.

They say they want me to roleplay, how am I supposed to do that with the possibility of having flaming arrows or dynamite rounds aimed at my head when I ride into town? Lol, it's kind of hard to get into a story when you are too apprehensive of another player's attack and thus do not feel calm or safe enough to actually enjoy the world around you. The novelty of being in a world with other players gets old fast, I just want to play the game with my own character, I don't need everyone else there to help me feel a part of the world anyways. Nothing against other players but not everyone wants to play the game the same way, which brings conflict, R* belief in players getting along and making this a wonderful online world is skewered.

 

As for the game, I saw a few more animals during my play yesterday, mostly pronghorns around hangman's rock and some elk way up north. We also finally saw one of those wounded deer that give you the arrowhead for the first time in what had to be weeks but I don't think the update came to my system yet, or if it did it must have been small because I didn't see an update download that took longer than a few minutes to finish.

After a few hours of play, I have seen more animals in some sessions. Not pre Frontier Pursuits levels of animal spawns, but hunting was possible.

 

Session merging seems to create more issues than it's worth. Deer, rabbits, Elk and bears were abundant enough in Tall Trees that I could consistently hunt, take carcasses back to camp then go hunting again without leaving the area. Again, I wasn't exactly spoiled for choice, but, I could load my horse, get a few pelts and something to drag within 10-15 minutes.

 

The problems came alongside spikes in session player count that had to be caused by session merging. Where the player count was fluctuating between 17-23 players, like usual, a steady trickle of animals were spawning, but when the player count jumped, I saw an 18 to 27 player spike in session population, everything instantly broke. Animals and carcasses despawned, camp disappeared and couldn't be pitched, shack broke in all the usual ways.

 

It's a start, even if it's not a particularly consistent one. I've played three times today since the update and on two of those occasions the world has been dead. The last few hours have been an improvement though.

I monitor the background updates, I found out that they pushed a background update for build 1232.28 which isn't not live yet.

Also, I believe they said that ongoing improvements are underway, so we are gonna get new patches to reduce those issues.

You're too kind. It's more of a fkn disgrace in my book. This isn't some indie dev we're dealing with.  I love how they tried to cover their a$$ with "certain sessions" (whatever the fk that means) and "ongoing improvements are underway".

They also said they would keep us posted on fixes for this issue. We're still guessing about what really has been done and where the upcoming patches are leading to. They did share patch notes, but it's pretty vague what they actually meant. 

Don't get me wrong, I am happy they are doing something, which doesn't work for many yet, but they are doing something.

I just had a bug during a moonshine mission...that I never had before, I was completing my daily to travel 4827 feet in a wagon...with 2:30 remaining, the game said posse quit game or something and ended the mission.  (The moonshine was there later and I sold it and got all the money)

 

A new bug...I am unable to purchase a camp through the menu.

 

I have not seen a large animal in my game.  I have noticed a bit more birds but nothing compared to a lobby that is solo.

I remember when Conan Exiles early access was supposed to hold 70 players per server, because of poor performance they reduced to 40 (it is still poor), and after 3 years the game still have only 40 players per server and even so the ones that have the most are 15 or 20 players online.

 

Dont get me wrong, I too feel the pain, but Im sure is temporary, they will figure out, just give’em some time and soon the game will be in a good shape.

I completely agree. R*s handling of RDO in general is disgraceful as far as I'm concerned.

 

My post was in the interest of fairness, I'm as critical of R* as anyone, more so than most much of the time, but with that in mind, it was only fair that, when I have had a slightly more positive experience, I share that as well.

 

R* have a lot of work to do, and I'm not convinced that they'll get the game where it needs to be unless they back down over player count, session merging and IO sessions.

I log in this morning and my camp icon is in Tall Trees. When I look at the camp menu it acts like the camp isn't out though. Wonder if it's the same camp "place holder" as yesterday and I need to move it.

 

EDIT: Yep, I formed posse and Cripps packed up camp. I was able to set it up at Scarlett Meadows though.

 

EDIT EDIT: When I go to camp it's just Cripps standing there alone,nothing else spawned in.

Äh, it used to work well for me before, the camp.

 

EDIT EDIT EDIT: It loaded in after I did a moonshiner roadblock event nearby and went past the camp again.

Cannot raise white flag though

The thing is, even if this is the case, I'm not saying it is or isn't (but I could definitely see this being something close to the opinion overlord Strauss has), then why make RDO at all?

 

It was never going to make money on the scale of GTAO and whenever GTA VI releases, it won't make money on the scale the online element of that either.

It was never going to make money on the scale of GTAO and whenever GTA VI releases, it won't make money on the scale the online element of that either.

This game could have made a sh*t ton more $$ if it wasn’t so broken.  was it going to make the revenue gta did of course not it’s a Wild West setting that not all players are in to, put games like cod in the revolutionary war era and there would be the same problem.  Does it have a big enough dedicated player base, it did but being this game has more problems than a mid 70’s yugo most have left.  R* knew this would be a filler game for the now older fans of redemption 1 and tried to add an in game economy w/ little more than pvp to do, that’s why it’s basically forced on us in every aspect.  Forced pvp = frustration in turn breeds card sales from players trying to keep up with the latest items.  R* f*cked up and they know it, either from the player counts to getting destroyed in their own live streams.  For a game having such potential it turned out like Homer Simpson building a car.

I can't agree about there being forced PvP in the most part. Could R* have done more? Of course they could, we should have Invite Only lobbies and should have had them from launch.

 

But, almost every step R* have taken, as far as free roam is concerned, has made free roam PvP easier to avoid or opt out of. Defensive mode, proximity blips and chat, parley after one death, local Trader sales, Collector is PvE only, there's no incentive to PvP for Bounty Hunters either apart from player bounties and even then, keep your bounty down and you can't be targeted.

 

A mistake, as far as I'm concerned, is that Moonshine sales don't have the same local/distant option as Trader sales, but that being said, I've made over $20k from Moonshine so far and haven't lost a single sale to another player so far.

 

R* have f*cked up where player count is concerned. I don't think player count is the root cause of the various problems in free roam, it's a symptom of an underlying issue. That's not to say that the symptom can't be alleviated, if you have a bad back, the pain isn't the cause of the problem, but that doesn't mean you don't take pain killers while the pulled muscle or slipped disc is being treated. R* should have either reduced player count or implemented Invite Only lobbies, at least temporarily, while working on the cause of the spawn issues.

@ALifeOfMisery  we should have the lobby types to suit the player, you want to play with your friends here you go, you want to pvp in free roam here it is, you want a pve lobby here you go.  We should have the ability to host game modes and invite who we want.  As for “forced pvp” it’s what you get when you put all the players together no matter what the players are wanting to do.  Don’t get me wrong this is a beautiful game w/ awesome potential,  to me it just seems R* doesn’t care and it’s just a $$ grab and then the 🖕🖕🖕 till they finish gta6.  For a company like R* & take2 this dumpster fire can’t have this many problems if they actually cared.

Fully agree with this. Lobby types should be a thing. R* telling us how the game is most fun is arrogant.

I get what you mean, PvP in free roam is "forced" because we have no control over whether another player inflicts it upon us.

 

I suppose my view on it is that, while you're correct, and if xXsNiPeGoD420Xx wants to kill you for no reason, they can, it just has very little, or no consequences. If I get shot on the way into the General store in Valentine and I can't be bothered with a fight, I can parley and carry on with what I wanted to do. Unless you're on a distant Trader sale (asking for it, it's not worth the extra cash) or a Moonshine sale (a mistake by R* IMO), being killed once, then parleying is of no consequence.

Downloaded patch and loaded in. Tried to pitch camp but it never arrived.

 

Apart from all the disconnects, was it this bad on day one of the beta?
