The Protector: [7\10]

The Good: Some funny moments, and great detail on the mission with objectives, and actor placing. good shootout, and hard final boss

The Bad: Driving the bulletproof car didn't gave me much excitement fleeing the mafia. and I'm not sure why I didn't got chased by any enemies in the drive-bye

Thank you for your review! As i said, it's hard to balance the chasing scene so that's why i choose to make it bulletproof. And in the drive-by, the enemies tend to crash through the buildings, which is why they usually don't give chase. That were the bugs i was talking about lol

Nice work everyone!  It's really good to see so much participation.

Ok since there are alot of reviews, Imma do something different: rank the missions based on different aspects.

P.s. ranking low in the list doesn't  mean the mission is bad, it means it lacked in that particular  aspect.

So uhh... let's start?...

Story:

5. Warehouse  Ambush (Eddylr).

The story is just too simple (an ambush). There wasn't much dialogue (which isn't a bad thing), also characters are forgettable.

However, I still like its simplicity, as it let's you focus more on the gameplay. Maybe i should put it a bit higher on the list?

4. Loyal Guardian (GalacticXp1).

3. Business  Restlessness (Fahad Eabd)

2. Parasite II (its poundcake time /Venom).

1. The protector (LordStarShip).

Rich dialogue, Fleshed out characters and a nice little twist at the end ;).

Cinematography:

5. Warehouse  Ambush (Eddylr).

The reason why it's the lowest isn't  because it's  badly excuted, but because it's almost non existent. The few cutscenes that were shown were just basic. Now, I know I said that story was minimized for gameplay - and story and cinematography  kinda come hand-in-hand, but still, those cameras can use some work.

4. Parasite II (its poundcake time/Venom).

3. Business  Restlessness (Fahad Eabd)

2. The protector (LordStarShip).

1. Loyal Guardian (GalacticXp1).

I really like the opening scene and the wall collapse scene. As for other scenes, they were well excuted with good choices on camera angles. Good job!

Gameplay:

5. Business  Restlessness (Fahad Eabd).

I like the mixture of shootout, stealth, and parkour here. But variety isn't a determining factor of a mission (it's a mission, after all). The difficulty is low. Object placement is low. But it's a good first entry. There is room for improvement. Don't  stop. :)

4. The protector (LordStarShip).

3. Parasite II (its poundcake time/Venom).

2. Loyal Guardian (GalacticXp1).

1. Warehouse  Ambush (Eddylr).

Very well excuted! The object placement matched well with the interior, along with actors' health and difficulty made the gameplay very engaging. It's another first entry? Well, I can't wait for more from you! :D

My vote:

Loyal Guardian (GalacticXp1)

I did speak about its use of cinematography, but really everything else go well together. The gameplay was just as engaging as in (Warehouse  Ambush). The story, while simple, it did good at distinguishing characters  from each other. The only backdrop  is it's  length (very short). But, for me, it wins.

Or maybe because   I'm biased as I emphasize cinematography in missions more than anything else :P.

If you care: 😛

I did try to make a mission. But some bugs occurred near the last part of it. Also, I got carried away with sound design, which was very time consuming.

Maybe I'll post it later in the forum after it's finished. Btw, is there any restrictions on posting unfinished MOTW missions in unrelated dyom sections? Let me know if there is. :)

looks like you misunderstood the theme (not to be rude, but my missions are frankly hard to understand) give it a try second time and pay more attention.

As for Martin, care giving us your review?

Reviews aren't obligatory for every MOTWs but the voting are really important in this case right now. So, Fahad's vote doesn't count. You can't vote for your mission and yourself. I hope Eddylr will give us a good theme! Keep it up the good work.

I was asking for reviews by saying "care giving the review?" so it's not really obligatory. Review is the best way to improve your designing skill with constructive criticism from the others. Designers often review each other to see what's best and what's worst in their level and what to do in the future to improve the level so it'd not be as bad as before. However, designers often found themselves learning by seeing others missions and comparing with his mission, what's lack on his mission that the others can add on their missions, so review is not really obligatory, but a kind feedback to help each other out!

Business Restlessness (Fahad Eabd)

Spoiler

The first entry from Fahad. There are flaws that could be fixed. The story is quite cool, about business where someone ambushes the VIP and kills him before he gets killed by the bodyguard. The bodyguard commit suicide after seeing his boss is killed, possible reference to Samurai, if i recall, that Samurai will kill himselves if he failed to do his mission. Cutscene is good, and i like the tire shooting cutscene. This mission is one of the best example of managing effects really well, which is many of designers can't do. The dialogue though, needs an improvement, especially in the grammar. Gameplay, it's quite odd and some logic flaws could be seen here. Like, who won't run away or know the location if someone shoots a sniper rifle nearby you? And the guards' weapons are quite odd, a minigun and sniper in a bridge, and combat shotguns in the top? Well, there's the things i could say about this mission. It's good enough but needs some improvements!

Solid 5/10!

Parasite II (Venom)

Spoiler

This mission is again, like the predecessor, amazing. Object placements are very well designed, the cutscene are great. Some things this mission have that gets me is that the gameplay. Although the gameplay is unique, it's kinda hard to know what are you doing when there's not a clear instruction. Like for example, the puzzle on the memo, i thought you need to take a photo of every single head, but not. Another thing is the plot, i think i sometimes mixed Laura (Is this her name?) and Jennifer, because they two have no differences in character whatsoever. I was confused in the cutscene where Jennifer kills her friend, or her bodyguard(?), because i thought she wasn't Jennifer. Also, there are only few parts where the bodyguard actually acts like bodyguard, most of it are they working alone to help each other, more like friends to me.

This mission is amazing, an improvement isn't necessary, but i think this mission lacks the "Bodyguard" theme, just like how you did in Parasite, but, it's a real great job from Venom!

Give it 8/10!

Loyal Guardian (GalacticXp1)

Spoiler

Another mission from Galactic that is amazing. First off, the story is good. A man called Bob, guards his boss called Jerry which is weapon smuggler and possibly Jerry's wife called Erika, fight through waves of Viatnemese gangsters that Jerry thinks is a good partner on smuggling weapons too. Gameplay itself is really good. Not too difficult and not too easy, it's balanced. Something bugged me, why did the civilians also attack the snakedragons? They are unarmed fighting armed gangsters. Anyways, cutscene though. The blockade on the door when the explosive guy explodes is really appealing. Cutscene places when Jerry and Erika and Bob go to the rooftop to save themselves are nicely done. Character developments also shows, even by little, and that adds to the point. Even though there are some mini-bugs (like the gangster fall from the roof), this mission is the perfect mission for Bodyguard theme.

An amazing mission, with some mini flaws! Real good job balancing all aspects well!

9.5/10!

The Warehouse Ambush (EddyIr)

Spoiler

Also first entry from Eddy. What a fresh performance! Gameplays are really, really well done. I haven't experienced a full shootout for a while, and this really makes me excited. The object placements, are they naturally placed? Damn, they really add the feelings of abandoned warehouse as well! Now aside of those two, i want to point out something. Just like Parasite II, this mission lacks the bodyguard feeling and more to hitman feeling. You are trying to hunt the Mafia Boss, while the others take care of your boss. Now, don't get me wrong, i love this mission, but i can't feel like i'm protecting someone by storming through all of those Mafias and kill their boss by myself. Yes, you can say i indirectly protect my boss by killing the Mafia Boss, but isn't that add more bounty to my boss' head because he killed a freaking Mafia Boss and puts him into more danger? I thought i gonna do some pew pew on the street and protect my boss until he returns to his safe area. Also, there are little character developments as well. The only one i remember is Karl, the boss. I don't even know who's the name of the guy we're playing as, and it seems like he doesn't have any personality. The story, is quite good enough. Idk what he's trying to do, expanding his business with the warehouse? But i know by far that he's a business man that wants those warehouses for his company, and the Mafia who owns the warehouse don't like that at all.

A real awesome mission that points out your skills on gameplay and decorations, but non-balanced compared to plot and cinematic. Nevertheless, it's still amazing knowing it's the first entry from Eddy!

Let there be 8.5/10!

Voted for:

Spoiler

GalacticXp1, for his balanced and amazing mission that i really like! Keep up the good work!

Side note:

Won't make this a spoiler because i want to tell why themes are important. It seems like theme is more as a base and then the mission expands elsewhere, even outside of the reach of the theme. If this is not MOTW, maybe i voted for Eddy, but Galactic has shown me that theme is really the foundation to a great mission in MOTW. This is only my preferences, but the most important thing for me is "does the mission suit the theme or not?". Two themes are allowed, like Parasite II (Bodyguard and Sci-Fi) but the main theme will always be the main. No matter if the mission is really awesome, if it's out of the theme, i won't vote for it unless there are no others that can suit the theme well.

I don't mean to force everyone to do as i said, i just wanted to share my preferences about MOTW. You can take this as a suggestion from me to design a mission according to the main theme, or you can choose to ignore this. It's all your decisions and not mine.

Anyways, have a good day/night! By the looks of it Eddy will win this!

I'm improved a lot of some reviews. The important thing is the 'skill of the designer'. Their missions are really good but Eddylr's mission was the best imo. He just made the first entry for this MOTW and this is the result of his mission! I'm really glad to see good missions. You have a lot of potential to be an expert creator. Keep it up all, fools. :miranda: :^:

lemme tell you some things about the mission:

the mission goes with the theme actually well. if you pay more attention, you can see what i mean - let me sum up this time.

the number "II" symbolizes here partnership, the two "saviors" of the humanity - Laura and Jennifer are the ones, since their starting letter is only two far away. (J, K, L)

"to prevent future chaos and influence" this means that not only you're a bodyguard of a person, but an entire population as well. the cult's a doomsday one.

and about the puzzle, it's symbolic towards the characters. "free the innocent" this means to Jennifer, which her name symbolizes "the fair one" and Laura's name symbolizes victory, coming from Roman origin.

later on, you realize you are a manifestation, you protected yourself, technically your "second spirit" also it clearly stated to photograph one side. the west head one, since Colombus in 1492 went west to find out India.

heck, even the title is symbolic to the meanings. "Parasite II" an organ that lives in two bodies here, and that's the main characters - one is recreated, which implies on the baby crying sound at the end of the mission before the fight (which means pain, suffering of tokophobia) and not to mention when Laura says "they look like an oversized baby form" this refers to tokophobia of the main characters, since the cult tries to spread their influence, they want someone who they can praise. that's the baby (more mentioned in Parasite III, which will come soon i hope) as it implies on physical manifestation and you realizing what you are.

and the floors (they went thirteen floors already, now they're the fourth) do some mathematics here - 13+4 = 17. that's the main characters' ages.

the number thirteen is unlucky in western cultures, while four is in east asian cultures. this means that the souls have split, they've been tortured, now they begin to realize the truth they needed to.

ever tried to signify the Laura's talking style? yes, that's the reason why it goes less to the theme.

shorter hairs in women symbolize not trying to hide, since Laura doesn't show you compliments at all. jennifer doesn't respond often, like she's trying to hide something from herself. her darkened side.

there's plenty more of symbolism in the mission, but i only mentioned the most important ones.

also, no mentioning of how the sounds in the mission were quite disturbing? i guess you guys are good then ;)
