GTA ONLINE AND RED DEAD ONLINE HAVE A RECORD-BREAKING HOLIDAY SEASON (January 28th)

Recommended Posts

Jason

CELEBRATE WITH MASSIVE REWARDS AND BONUSES FOR ALL PLAYERS

4a250d786f9ac0be471adec170cd68ea8713247a

THANK YOU

We’d like to thank our entire community and all the incredible players we have in both games for another record-breaking holiday season for both Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online. Everyone from the Heist crews, stunters and racers in GTA Online to the Moonshiners, Bounty Hunters, Traders and Collectors of Red Dead Online – along with all the players happy to wander, explore and create their own adventures in both worlds – we thank you for helping to build some of the best gaming communities around.

Thanks to you all, Grand Theft Auto Online is entering its seventh year more popular than ever. After breaking records for daily, weekly and monthly average players in July and August consecutively following the release of The Diamond Casino & Resort, the December launch of The Diamond Casino Heist broke even those records, bringing players back in bigger numbers than ever before over the holiday period. The back-to-back release of these two colossal updates – the biggest GTA Online has ever seen – also made December 2019 our largest month ever in terms of player numbers.

We also want to extend a massive thank you to all the YouTubers out there who played, created and commented on GTAV content throughout the year. 2019 was GTAV’s biggest year ever for views on YouTube (with December 30th to January 5th being our biggest seven-day period ever), while GTAV videos also hit a new record for engagement via likes and comments in the week ending January 12th, 2020* – kicking off the new year in a huge way. It’s great to see so many talented creators who inspire and entertain helping to share the fun and possibilities of these games with the entire world.

Meanwhile, the untamed open spaces of Red Dead Online moved out of beta in 2019 and began to forge its own path to becoming a dynamic online world as we optimized animation speeds and controls for better PvP combat, added anti-griefing measures, infused additional life into the world with new Free Roam activities, and introduced the Outlaw Pass for a whole new system of rewards and improved progress. As the year went on, players had even more reasons to immerse themselves in the world and their characters with the introduction of the first four of many Frontier Pursuits – The Bounty Hunter, Trader, Collector and Moonshiner – allowing players to progress through multiple roles simultaneously while earning new role-specific skills, clothing, weapons and other items along the way. These changes and additions helped push Red Dead Online to a new peak in player numbers in December following the release of the Moonshiners update, topping those numbers again in January.

With two distinct worlds now alive and thriving, we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated fanbase that travels with us on this journey as both continue to expand and evolve with new types of gameplay, new stories and much more to experience over the coming year.

NEW REWARDS AND BONUSES

To celebrate these milestones, we will be offering huge bonuses in both games:

GTA Online will feature bonus cash of up to GTA$2,000,000 in its biggest cash giveaway yet. Starting on January 30th you can earn GTA$1,000,000 just by playing before February 5th and will be able to earn another GTA$1,000,000 by playing between February 6th and February 12th.

Red Dead Online players will receive a series of gifts including free access to select roles, special role item giveaways and more, including:

The Gunslinger’s Cache: Play between January 28th and February 3rd to get a Free Schofield Revolver, a Free Varmint Rifle and the Devastating Ammo Bundle, which includes 100x Split Point Revolver Ammo, 100x High Velocity Pistol Ammo, 100x Express Repeater Ammo, 100x Slug Shotgun Ammo, and 20x Explosive Rifle Ammo.

The Bounty Hunter’s Kit: Play between February 4th and February 10th to get a Free Bounty Hunter license, 25x Bolas, and 25x Tracking Arrows.

COMING SOON

There is still much more to come in 2020. Next up for GTA Online is the addition of an open wheel racing series featuring all new vehicle types – with tense, high speed, track-based racing where tight cornering, tactical tire choices and perfectly timed pit stops make every second count. Plus, expect more big updates and a few surprises as we move forward into the year.

As we have hinted at in the past, the world of Red Dead Online will also continue to grow in 2020 as we expand the concept of Frontier Pursuits with additional roles, new missions and many more significant updates to come.

Whether you have been away for a while or have never had a chance to play before, there has never been a better time to immerse yourself in these two vast and unique living online worlds. Once again, a gigantic and heartfelt thank you to everyone who has joined us in this ongoing journey.

Stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for all the latest on future updates and much more.

I'm glad the games are performing well, but I can't help but notice there seems to be a difference in viewpoints here between the customer-base and R*.

Us: damn game is broken, plz fix

R*: Hey Bill, check out these sales and performance figures! This game is thriving, we must be doing something right.

So they are giving stuff away that we already have.  What a nice "THANK YOU" to your day one players that made it so successful for Rockstar.  @ghostsoap01 is so right...There seems to be some real disconnect from them.  I wish I lived in the reality they do.

I suspected the game did well over the holidays but it is crazy how both of them continue to grow, especially GTAO. They have faults, some big ones as we all know, but they do deliver an experience you can't really get elsewhere, that being an online open world experience which despite the litany of online only games these days is actually still very rare as only a handful of studios are making proper MMORPG's these days and those are almost all out on PC.

I'm also assuming that this isn't RDO's weekly Newswire cause it doesn't contain info on the new clothing, so probably two posts this week?

What I will say though, RDO getting shafted with the gifts again lol. Whoopdeedoo, some ammo and a cheap gun.

You do realize that NOT everyone is a veteran player! I still see very low levels in my lobby from time to time. Ad for me (level 244) I wouldn't mind having free ammos and other free items for the roles .

The article says "massive rewards for all players". So where are the "massive" rewards for long time players? The way I see it, these "massive" rewards are just for newcomers once again. For veteran players, these are nothing.

Course, but it's no incentive considering a lack of content and fixes are more needed, IMHO.

With this, I pop on. With fixed/content, I play all week. :)

Translation of Rockstar-speak: "Uh, everything's under control--situation normal. ... Uh, had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh, everything's perfectly allright now; we're fine, we're all fine here now, thank you."

Amazing how there's ZERO recognition of anything wrong with either game, even though both have significant issues (RDO especially) plastered all over YouTube and social media in general.

Time to send a squad up.

I do.  So they are thanking new players only then?

What free items does the long time player get that they don't already have?  Ammo???

I don't like complaining but this is discouraging. So now my lockbox is going to be stocked even more with items I am not hardly going to use, heck I already have the limit of all the ammo sitting in that box right now. Hardly ever use the Bola's unless I have to stop another bounty so a posse member can hogtie them, and the guns? If you've been playing for some time you probably own them, already upgraded and with their pretty ornaments. I agree with the posts above, there is nothing for us long time grinders. You know the ones who have played through the first few weeks without the relief of free ammo and useful guns, the ones who played a bugged out game that for many could easily grow tedious, but still we stayed, hoping to see all of those neat new additions that Rockstar keeps talking about. And the roles, some of us grinded like crazy for those roles and they keep getting handed out like candy on halloween. Not that I am against trying to help newer players gain access to those roles, but it makes me think twice about spending the gold to get the role if in a few weeks it will be available for free as a "gift". GTA seems to have gotten some big gifts, and I will probably log in and play just to get that, but Red Dead's gifts are rather lackluster. Why not offer gifts that can only be received if you reached level 100? Or gifts for the players who reached level 20 in the bounty hunter or any role while gifting the role for others? Love the game Rockstar, and I really appreciate the world you have shared with us, but this is no gift for many of us.

I feel like a dad getting yet another pair of socks for christmas... Lol!

Not a word in the general direction of: "we're working on a fix for all your issues!"

I don't know how they measure the growing numbers of players in RDO. If this is by logins, I can see that amount growing with the many times one needs to reboot the game to make it work again. Sure, I see the amount of low rank players in the lists, though the numbers of high ranked ones are dwindling.

Some free stuff is nice, never going to refuse that, but this would have been a darn good time to accept responsibility for the bugs, tell us they're working on it, and get on with the job of fixing things.

We're not all chronic complainers, we just want this to work the majority of the time.

Really, console players should get something unique as a concrete gesture of thanks, not cash or gold, that's easily forgotten and for the most part you guys all have tons of each if you had the inclination.

I mean something useful, and unique to console only. It's only fair for sticking through all the leaner times.

But bug fixes would go the longest to smoothing things over.

This isn't it R*, it really isn't. Congratulations on that self congratulatory autofellatio you posted.

However the f*ck they have the cheek to post the GTAO and RDO rewards in the same Newswire I don't know. If that isn't yet another f*ck you to veteran RDO players I don't know what is.

It's infuriating, the arrogant pr*cks.

Basically R* are thanking their loyal players by giving them things they already have. The person who came up with this isn't really the brightest of the bunch.

RDO is alive and thriving? Huh... Good thing Rockstar aren't ship safety inspectors! They would declare the Titanic a functional ship fit for travel with that logic.

Thanks for gifting me weapons I already own...oh and some ammo. Maybe next time you give us weapons give a coupon for any pistol or whatever type your giving away so the people who already have that gun doesn't get screwed.

Or just do a cash give away, I wouldn't have any use for it, but it's the principle, let us spend it on whatever we like.

GTAO players are getting up to $2m, which isn't much really, but I would say that a $1k give away in RDO would have been a fair equivalent.

These vouchers are ok for things like fast travel, character customisation, supplies, honor change and so on, but not really for specific item discounts.

Yeah, we all realize it, f*ck 'em, let them put in the work like we did.

What are the low ranks getting thanked for anyway, acting like d*ckheads in every town in free roam?

Nah, we're the ones who have played through Beta, got to rank 100 with no content and helped RDO to "forge it's own path".

These rewards are a slap in the face.

I own 2 Schofield's, don't use them. I'd like to use my Varmint Rifle more, but animals are as rare as rocking horse sh*t, there's nothing to shoot at with it.

As for the ammo, I wouldn't even notice the cost of purchasing what they're giving away.

I can't recall correctly anymore, but did us day 1 players not get the Varmint for free already? I can't remember paying for it, to be honest. I don't remember if it was included in the UE or as a reward for playing Beta or not. I have it for ages already. Anyone?

Nvm. It came with the UE. Another kick in the face for buying UE...

The Special and Ultimate Edition buyers, mainly day#1 buyers, got the Varmint for free as one of the few benefits the more expensive editions had in this game. Day#1 players paid a lot more for the game, got benefits that new players get now too and had to do the hard work, rank the hard way and is exactly the group of players who get neglected/ignored every weekly update, if there is any, again and again.

On top of that, no fixes for all the current issues, of which some are in the game for far too long to ignore.  Not a word about "fixing problems", nothing. No recognition, no addressing errors, just a "Yippie, we broke a record and thank you all for your participation" message and a bunch of useless care packages for those who stuck around from the beginning. The ones who joined in the last 2 months get rewarded, we get ignored.

I KNEW there was a reason I should have waited a year to buy a cheap ass varmint rifle, which basically is required to hunt any small animal or bird and get a 3 star pelt/carcass.  No, wait.

Speaking of said ammo, anyone else actually received theirs? I have yet to actually see any "gifted" to me, and not surprisingly, there's no specific date in the Shyster newswire that says when it can be expected to arrive.

No "You've been awarded" screens (even after multiple logins) and post offices are still deathly quiet, except for obnoxious Alden...
