Ghost Town bridge mod re-worked for GTA3 version 1.2+

After Homer Simpson released the original version of this mod, several other revisions have followed, and I even tried out a number of them myself.  There was a little downside to the problem though.  When I got the game, I noticed it was not version 1.0 or 1.1 and that would easily be found in the GTA3 main menu screen, top left.  Therefore, it must have been 1.2 or newer, but anyhow.  After I installed the mod myself, I did try about every revision of this mod, including the latest from Meltedsox and it all yielded the same result: when Claude reaches the end of the bridge - even when turning left to get off - the indNcoast2 texture that covers Ghost Town gives out and Claude falls right through into the water below.

 

Overtime, I don't know how or why, but I noticed what Rockstar more likely did when they released a newer revision of GTA3.  I believe they took all the textures/IPL's/etc. from three main groups (Portland/Staunton/SSV) and limited the use of each texture in its own group.  In other words, if you take the indNcoast2 texture from Portland like Homer Simpson did, that means it only works in Portland!  You can not take it to SSV and expect it to work there, it becomes invisible and gives out.

 

After learning of this myself, I spent countless days checking out all of the textures specifically from SSV and from out of nowhere I did discover a texture from SSV that was a very flat 60x30 area known as view_carpark.  So I tested this texture with Ghost Town, and I was surprised!  This one did work and Claude was able to access Ghost Town again without falling through!

 

This breakthrough I discovered led to re-creating the vast majority of the mod from scratch while keeping a small portion of it.  First of all, I kept the bridge between Staunton and Portland, and I named that after Homer Simpson - the original creator of this mod (the small portion).  I re-did the bridge between SSV and Staunton and named that after boredwithusernames (based on his recent contribution to the mod in the past, still active on YouTube).  I re-worked the bridge between Cedar Grove (SSV) and Ghost Town and named that after Meltedsox (another great contributor to this mod in the past).  The bridge starts off across the street from the right side of Catalina's mansion (when you go there for the final mission).  Then there's my main platform in Ghost Town which replaced the indNcoast2 texture.

 

First and foremost, make sure you have this mod installed and registered in the GTA3.dat file.  Then if the original releases doesn't work, come back to this thread and download from my temporary link (top).  Take the only IPL in the zip and overwrite.

 

I really hope this discovery of mine will help some of you out if you want to re-live Ghost Town again.  Cheers to the community!
