Bounty minimap bug.

Hello, I'm exchanging emails with R* support for quite some time now and they claim that everything is in order. I disagree and I wanted to read your opinion on this.

This issue is strictly limited to a bounty mission, when your target tries to escape. Here's a link to the video which I sent to R* support. Please note then when I approach my target's hideout (0:48) it is properly marked on minimap (red skull icon). It is like this throughout the fight and also when I hogtie the target. However, when I release the target (4:43/4:44) and the notification about target trying to escape pops up it's icon disappears from the minimap even though I have eye-contact. It doesn't come back on (except for blips) for the rest of the mission.

Now earlier on when I played bounty, whenever a target was running away it's icon blipped on the edge of the minimap when it was further away but when I had eye-contact the icon stayed on the minimap all the time.

Please let me know what you think of this because R* support is driving me crazy claiming that the icon is there (even though it isn't) and everything is ok.

Surprisingly, I agree with R* Support. The main difference between your bounty mission and the one I ran last night is that my targets were pinging during the battle.

The term "blip" is usually used to describe any of the various markers on the mini-map. Some blips are just circles, others have an icon - like the target or your horse. I'm using the term "ping" to describe when the target blip appears briefly on the mini-map - like the return signal of radar or sonar, but in this case the ping seems to come when the targets make noise by shooting or shouting.

The behavior of blips seems to change as the mission progresses. During the approach phase the blips are always solid. Once the timer is displayed the properties seem to change based on the mission type and level - it does whatever the programmer setup for this particular mission. It could be that by releasing the target you entered an escape phase that altered your target blip to start pinging.

Consider this explanation as an untested hypothesis. I don't consider myself an expert on bounties, and I haven't kept data on how blips work in various missions. But within this general framework, I wouldn't consider your mission icons as bugged. Working as intended seems a reasonable response.

I've never noticed an association between eye contact and a solid blip. Maybe it works on other missions, or used to work before things changed.

If you want your target blips to remain solid then shoot them with a tracking arrow. The effect wears off after a while though.

It's a shame you didn't keep data on how blips work in various missions. Fortunately I did quite a lot of bounty missions and know exactly how they worked in different mission types.

Before I go further let's agree on terminology, I'm willing to accept your version:

blip - an icon on the radar which is shown constantly on the minimap, in case of a bounty it's a skull icon

ping - an icon on the radar is shown for a brief moment to give you a general idea of where the target is heading

Thing is blips act same as before in every aspect except for when your target begins to escape. In this very aspect something changed and it's not working properly. Earlier on when your target was escaping you got pings to be able to chase it. But when you got closer the ping changed to a constant blip which was logical. After all, when you have a visual on the target it makes no sense for it not to have an icon on the minimap. Now, once the target begins to escape you only get blips for the rest of the mission even when you're next to the target or even have it hogtied next to you. You can view the video I linked in my first post from 4:43 to see what I mean. What's important there was no mention in patch notes about anything being done with how blips/pings work in bounty missions. Furthermore it's only one of many bugs I have encountered in bounty missions after the moonshiners update.
