But the payout of Rooftop Rumble was nerfed before the time based payouts were introduced. I can't remember getting 25k from the mission. I got only 18750$ when I started my grinding after R* announced the possibility of buying a second apartment.

Btw in December 2013 I was a billionaire. I didn't play missions at that time.

Yeah, I know. 25k is from the period before December '13, definitely. Can t be arsed to dig patch notes to pinpoint the exact date. However, right now payout when it's done right is 1/2 and enemies are 2x, that was my point. Yeah, some missions were paying like 2k back in original Gerald day (don't ask me the is a Gerald though), but the introduction of communism still sucks.

ooooh, fresh newbies being limited and at a disadvantage at the beginning of their GTA Online life... Oooh, newbies having to actually learn how to play the game and discover through trial and error what works and doesn't for making money and surviving! How terrible that R* forces newbies to learn the ropes. Yep unacceptable. Oh yeah, but no problem cuz the best thing you guys can recommend is to start glitching! Why stop there? If you're gonna play the game illegitimately, better not do it half-assed. You might as well get rid of the red anti-mod/cheating banner at the top of the website and just encourage it all.

Cool story

There's ample opportunities to earn money and RP fairly quickly and without even fighting.

Biggest bore is the slow levelling of health, shooting skill, strength, etc.

I just keep playing rounds of golf to boost strength (4 under is my best so far!)

They should've given everyone the full amount of health regardless of rank.

I don't play PvP modes as it seemed completely imbalanced; a shame, it'd be different if weapon choice, health & armour was equalised/restricted.

I just started out a week or two ago after completing Story Mode 100% with all the rare achievements. (took 100 hours!)

1> Got the returning player content for the armoured Duke O' Death.

2> 54 Poker Cards (Tons of RP and chips can be turned to cash)

3> 100 Action Figures (Same again...)

4> Robbed all 20 stores

5> Maude bounty missions (bring them in alive!)

6> Treasure Hunt -> Revolver -> Revolver side mission = $$$

7> Serial Killer -> Revolver -> Revolver side mission = $$$

8> 50 Signal Jammers ([email protected] Level 42 with nicked Buzzard from Merryweather docks)

9> Solo missions i.e. Blow Up series.

10> 2 Factor Auth on Social Club account = $500K

I've done nearly all the missions on my own to be honest. Even the one with the Cargo Bob and four cars for Simeon after everyone dropped out.

1-4 player missions, etc. Just can't do the Dispatch ones with a two player restriction.

I'm sitting on 2.2 million.

Biggest problem is the heist missions now.

Just done the Fleeca job. Did the two setup missions with one chap who then disappeared for the finale after agreeing to a 60/40 split.

Did a 50/50 split on the finale with another random.

Passed it OK. I did the hacking and drilling.

No setup cost first time around otherwise probably wouldn't bother.

Ideally like to do all the heist missions in order with the same group (probably on Normal) then later on Hard for the Mastermind Challenge once Rank 100.

The AI seems to deplete armour/health incredibly quickly - never misses.

I know I can do VIP missions over and over if I buy an Office but it's a bit of bore isn't it?

Wasn't impressed at first.

Map with icons plastered all over it. (Still) getting calls from characters (I shouldn't have met yet) offering heist mission, arena and other properties I can't afford yet.

A newbie would be overwhelmed.

All seems a bit slap dash to me - you think they'd separate the high end content from the low end stuff.

I'm not surprised - this is a game where it bundles high level players on flying bikes with low end plebs straight off the boat.

In heists have you bought a heist heavy combat suit and are you wearing it (using player saved outfits in the settings)?

It staggers me how many people don’t know to do this.

Yeah I bought the Heavy Utility Vest and Bulletproof Helmet and I set those mission options.

I don't think the game even mentions it at this point in the game but I was reading the GTA Wiki.

Does make you rather slow though.

The AI is still lethal on Hard. I couldn't pull off that 2nd Lamar mission with randoms as they spawn from every direction.

When stealing the Kuruma from the Triads I paired up with Rambo who decided to ignore my Duke, ride a bike and shoot his rocket launcher at em.

Needless to say it didn't end well; penny dropped 2nd time around.

To be honest using an armoured car in most missions feels like cheating.

The aimbot Hard AI is cheating though isn't it? So I guess that makes it kinda fair...

Just didn't know how to get the mask on outside the bank.

I tried going through the M key > Style menus - all the options were greyed out.

But I should've hit the G key!

Don't know why people struggle with the drilling - have they never drilled through anything in real life?

@nwmm yeah the AI is ridiculously accurate. Likewise I have no problem using armoured vehicles. Most annoying for me is that even if you move at full speed in a buzzard they will hit it and it’ll be smoking and going down shortly. Also visibility isn’t a problem to their accuracy - they’ll shoot straight through hedges etc with no line of sight and still one shot you.

That's how a lot of people are getting into duping, true story. Game being broken in terms of balance and with locked content just leaves no other options for some people.

Funny isn't it what motivates some people.

They could add 10,000 vehicles into the game and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I don't need more than 5 at most.

Likewise for the weapons - I'm just after best in class.
I actually hate the fact that the DLC weapons like the Special Carbine/Homing Launcher/etc make the AK other original weapons obsolete.

Plus they have no rank requirements.

The only must have vehicle is a Buzzard and I only if I wish to grind Headhunter and Sightseer.

Can always just steal one each session and save $2 mil.

They're already offering me a "special deal" whereby I exchange real money for a white shark card + bonus $600K - just not gonna happen.

I really started playing the online part as I thought it would be a natural extension of the story mode.

Figured the online side would have a bit of plot to it - not really as it happens!

Most of the missions are OK - some junk in there though.

@mwnn, if you think the AI is nasty on the original heists, wait until you try Doomsday Heist.

Lol, I've seen Headhunter guards fall from the sky and land on their feet. They can spawn behind you with their weapons ready in a blink of an eye. They can turn almost any automatic weapon into a portable minigun, can have absurd amounts of health, track you through walls, lock onto you from extreme range, yadda yadda yadda. Don't feel bad about cheating the game, it cheats you f*cking hard first.

Not to mention, that AI chasing you in a buzzard (e.g. on sell mission) hit you with the buzzards machine guns no matter in which direction and which yaw angle the damn chopper points.

True, but a lot of the heists and setups force you to wear a different outfit anyway.

He meant that the player wanting to join a heist wears the Heist outfit before joining the heist itself. That way the host knows that player effectively knows about heist armor. Most deaths in heist can be avoided by wearing it.

Only a few of the original heists do. These are the Prison Break Finale, the setups Trash Truck and Station (only the ones in police uniform but those who go to the cargo ship can wear the heavy vest). So for the vast majority of them, what 23.5/26, it's available. And the vast majority of newbies refuse to put the damn settings on player saved outfits.

I totally get the fact by the way there are some seasoned heist veterans who don’t use them, because they can complete it anyway, because they want the challenge, or do it in different gear for the style etc. Or if you want to beat the elite time for Humane Labs you have to wear other gear or the swim will take too long.

Thats all fine. What narcs me off is muppets who die repeatedly and refuse to listen when someone offers simple advice on how they can even the odds.

I started with zero dollars, never bought a shark card, never cheated or glitched and I have half a billion dollars and every business and Super car.  I’ve spent a lot of time but it’s smart time, not doing pvp or playing stand your ground with a bunch of try yards.

It’s what you make it.  Play the game stupidly win stupid prizes.

Back in the Kuruma heist days, I used to play with a guy named Christiano. Absolute beast, he did his runs in the Pac Stand finale without a heavy gear, interaction menu with snacks open. Never a heavy gear, only to be faster and blow up these god damn bikes. His drivatar still causes some issues in Horizon 4 though.

Really? For some reason I had it in my head that there were a lot more. I suppose I haven't really done the old ones lately.

I think their are only a few where the heavy combat suit is part of the missions own clothing options - EMP, and Humane Labs Finale stick in my mind. But there are very few where player saved outfits are disabled, so on most cases if you own it, you can use it, provided the host gives you the option.

There’s plenty of missions which you can complete from inside an armoured vehicle,  where the suits might seem less important, but several also ones where you can’t. Ones like Key Cards and Coke I see failed a lot if the crew don’t use combat suits.

Back on topic.

I think there are now so many things a new player can purchase, it must be bewildering to be presented with everything all at once - and seem like you’d never be able to afford it all.

Those of us who started from the beginning had the luxury of learning how everything worked slowly, 1 DLC at a time.

I think in many ways that’s still a good way to do it, e.g buy one property at a time and devote most of your time to it, and fully learn how the associated jobs work. This is especially true in that a lot of businesses need upgrades to reach their full potential, and a new player won’t be able to afford all of the businesses fully upgraded for a long time.

The big question of course is what to get first, and that’s where asking long time players is the best thing to do. But I think not buying too many different things at once is sensible.

Personally my grand plan is to complete all the heists in order (ideally with the same three people) = +1 Million (+2 Million) plus first time bonuses. The bonuses dwarf the cut from the missions.

Logging in next week = +2 Million

Purchase an Arcade = 2 man Casino Heists

Purchase an Office

Purchase a Facility = Doomsday Heists

Any else like Bunkers, Import/Export, Crates, Nightclubs, etc - can all come later; I don't want anything that will siphon off my cash.

I reckon that grind is all a bit dull as well.

The Criminal Mastermind challenge is on the radar too = +10 Million

I've got 3.3 million now. I've hosted the Fleeca Job, finished the Humane Job finale as a randomly joined crew member (2nd ground assault - SKUL are a very competent team)

Plus various set up jobs for the other heists i.e. Prison Plane, Prison Bus, etc

All to other peoples benefit - favour not returned.

Even had one wanker who blew up my Duke O'Death after the Prison Plane setup - lucky it's free.

Plus another who decided it would be fun to snipe me twice in Freemode as I was building up Lung Capacity; I became "ghosted" to him, he chickened out and changed session when I got near.

There's little consistency and public lobbies seem to be mostly full of Russians - this is my biggest barrier to enjoyment.

I suppose everyone has virtually done everything by now :(

I actually think it's a bit sad how dead the other game modes are - there's some fun stuff in there - like the races with the DeLorean and Rocket Car.

EDIT

Rockstar desperate to flog me a shark card. It was a bonus 600K last week now it's 1.25 Million:

https://imgur.com/a/Q7r7yrI

This game's economy is like the Weimar Republic.

If I were starting at zero I would do contact missions to raise my rank and save up money.  Wait until the Maze Bank west goes on sale for half a million and buy that.  Then I would save for a Buzzard and hope to get lucky that goes on sale.  Once you get the Buzzard your income will go up faster because you can do VIP missions like Sightseer and Headhunter.  I would grind them and then buy a vehicle warehouse and start the import/export business.

After that the money will start adding up much quicker.  Next option would be small crate warehouses.

I would play VIP missions at lvl 5-10 just with Bati(Headhunter) and stolen unarmed chopper(Sightseer, Hostile Take Over) and join randos playing Dispatch or Repo when on cooldown/adding variety.

Spare 1.7 mio, then start Casino heist.

I helped several new players in december/january and in a few days playing like 30 min a day, sometimes giving them good Heist cut, they are on their way, either owning facility to spam Bogdan or Arcade.

Nothing very hard, I did that in 2018 when restarting a new account, my first property was the Hangar, I got the one at LSIA because I knew it has soloable Havok sell missions. Geisterfaust helped me to sell the full Hangar though, we got the two Hunter Hangar sell mission and solo I wasn't sure I could manage it. Not saying Hangar is a good business though, but It was 2x event and I like flying so I'd fun with the source missions.

I'm happy to help people doing their stuff, but that really is a big annoying point. Helping to do all the setups just to have the host going offline right before the finale - no message no nothing.
In the last 2 years I helped doing countless setup missons on all types of heists for random people and only got the opportunity to do the finale about 3 to 5 times (not sure). And most times I don't even care about the money, I do it just for fun.

Nice of you to offer.

I'll send a friend request. I won't be a muppet who disappears after a week or after getting what they want.

https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/member/Draugnar/

Quite happy to join on here too - do a mission or two with me first if you like - I like to think I'm competent.

I've been playing GTA since the first top down one! Could only take one bullet on that; used to have the old maps memorised.

https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/crew/casual_fine_gaming/hierarchy

I'll do the splits I mentioned. It's not about the cash, it's about enjoying ourselves, avoiding unnecessary frustration and accessing content.

40%/60% Fleeca

25%x4 Prison (Steam achievement)

10%, 30%x3 for the rest

I always have a watch of the heist videos on Youtube so I can get an idea of what to expect.

Looking through the awards I notice the Casino missions all offer a payout for the first completion and a big one for doing them all in order. Plus one for not dying on a mission.

As does the Doomday Heist, etc.

Red Dead Redemption doesn't work via Proton yet else I'd hop on there too.

Makes it worse when newbies are wasting money on cars when they don't own anything yet. After completing the casino heist with an under level 20 I got this message from him

He had a fully maxed out Vigero with neon lights so I'm pretty sure he would have spent the money on a car if I didn't tell him not to.

To be fair, I blame Rockstar for this. At least to some extent. They flaunt everything in front of newbies and I can see why they get confused. And of course a cool super car is always going to look far more appealing than a boring office or a warehouse. Rockstar should be helping new players out, by guiding them in the right direction. Then again, I suppose by not doing so, it will encourage shark card sales, so they probably know what they're at.
