helicopter handling

After playing with the handling.meta file in openiv for a long while I realized that unlike planes helicopters don't have a simple set of values to remove the "turbulence" like effect while flying. After locking a helicopters position with regards to pitch and yaw I realized that outside of the handling configuration information a script or something is supplying control stick input to simulate "real" helicopter flight. I have removed the flight skill variables by maxing those skills to no avail. Is anybody aware of what causes the scripted flight control input while flying a helicopter and where I can find it with openiv so I can modify it?

Ok so after I sifted through a dozen or so mods pertaining to flight I found a handling.meta file that achieves the desired results but does it by increasing the mass and then the thrust variables accordingly. Which seems odd. While it does work I am still stuck trying to understand why. Perhaps in a weather config there are specific settings for how weather effects helicopters? Being really light they can get get blown around by things like a cricket fart, and increasing the mass makes them less susceptible? The below youtube link is a demo from the author of the meta file with the settings in action. Perfect. Also below is a paste of his frogger settings. I am using the frogger for testing.

 

I would still like to understand how this works.  :(

Alright I have tried a dozens and dozens of variables associated with loading and running mods. And so not only do I not understand how these settings get the results depicted in his video, I can't even recreate them in my own game even if I replace the entire handling.meta file outright. I am so lost... going to sit back with a glass of bourbon and give it some thought before I get mad and quit. Any thoughts or sugestions would be much appreciated.

Ok I am an idiot. In all my attempts to systematically go through all variables there was one I forgot. In all my new game saves and game re-installs as some point I forgot to max my flying skills back out. I had them maxed in the beginning but when I first tried his handling config and it did not work, I think it was user error in that I had a conflicting asi script, I immediately reinstalled the game to start fresh and at that point neglected to set flying skill to max. In any event his handling files do work. Now I need to try and figure out why. Small steps.  :)   Also wonder if I can figure out how to make the game apply more tail rotor input while banking.  hmm...
