malicious mods have made its way to red dead online on pc, and with no private sessions this could get very dangerous.

Pretty soon it's gonna turn into that Fallout 76 fiasco that happened before Christmas.

We can't have nice things.

I am actually surprised it took this long.  I am guessing 3 months from now a lot of false bans will happen.

so am i, up until this point i only experienced maybe 3 or 4 modders in the 2 months this game has been on pc, and most of them were nice. its a shame rockstar develops next to zero anti cheat in their games

Amateur hour stuff from Rockstar really. I'm sure people will bang on about the lack of private sessions when talking about this but the reality is that this shouldn't be possible at all.

I've played so many online games in my life, MMORPG's and the like, and I don't recall ever seeing one of these games have issues where people can join your game and just f*ck with all your progression via hacking/modding which leads to me the belief that this is down to nothing more than sheer incompetence and/or ignorance towards PC from Rockstar.

yep. Rockstar gives no sh*ts about pc, only to make a quick buck. we had to wait a whole year for a disgusting pc port filled with bugs, crashes, glitches and overall poor performance only for them to give modders a paradise to f*ck with others.

Well, the only surprise for me is that this kind of malicious nonsense has taken longer than I expected to arrive.

As @Jasonsaid, there will be calls for private lobbies, we should have them, but as far as this type of issue is concerned, they are beside the point. This just shouldn't be possible.

R* are repeating all of their mistakes and incompetence from GTAO on PC.

Disgraceful.

In GTA Online, the modders were eventually able to edit stats of others like rank and awards. Most of that has now been fixed, but that is was possible is absurd, and with RDO they don't have the excuse that it's babby's first MMO. Red Dead seems to be repeating all of GTA's mistakes, but GTAO allows you to retreat into passive mode and ultimately to a friend/invite session.

What I'm afraid of is that even if R* caves and gives us the ability to make private sessions, they'll probably lock out all of the role activities. Their whole gameplay design philosophy relies on other players being able to interfere with freeroam activities.

Don’t be afraid, that’s just what will happen.  After years of R* getting their ass kicked on their own live streams they know exactly what’s going on with the public lobby business, they just don’t care.  I’ve said it since release that the forced pvp breeds frustration in turn frustration breeds card sales were they actually do care, the reason card sales began during the “beta”.  What problems we have now are not mistakes, there presence just shows R* don’t give a sh*t about the players.

And I don´t think they are going to stream from PC but console! Last thing I saw was someone posted their stream video here and you could hear the one in charge of the activity's getting frustrated when they got a new one! One thing I think is kinda strange is that big youtubes like YongYea doesn´t talk about how R* behaves. Fallout 76 had an issue where hackers could pick you clean where the devs needed to take servers offline to fix it! Just waiting for the same thing happening here!

Rockstar doesn't care. They've shown time and time again that they don't give a sh*t with their continued inaction. Their (presumably in-house) anti-cheat is dogsh*t and they have done absolutely f*ck all to fix it in the 4 years since GTA5 launched on PC. They're content to let cheaters run rampant just so long as they're not dropping money for others; they're content to allow cheaters to ruin the game for everyone just so long as it's not hurting their bottom line and destroying the grind and shark card / gold bar incentives they spent so long setting up.

Actually I’d love to see them stream on pc public lobbies.  Not only to see em get destroyed by other players but get messed with by the hackers/modders that infest that place.  R* knows what needs to be done to fix the issues it’s just the question of will they.  This game is just over a year in and is showing more game breaking bugs now than on release, until these are fixed it just shows that R* wanted a quick $$ grab and gives no f*cks about the players.

Something that is guaranteed NOT to happen here, ever.

It's a real shame, but I fully expected to see this type of thread once the PC release arrived. Hopefully they're better prepared and players don't start being banned for what others do to interfere with their accounts.

Only encouraging thing about this is that (at this point anyway) the rate of drain is pretty slow compared to GTA Online, where I lost about $84 million in a few seconds.

Will be interesting to see if/how "mod" menus implement money drops or money injections... not to mention rank boosts.

PC players have apparently already been getting auto-burned, knocked down, seeing random animal spawns, and yellow-haired clones of themselves--typical GTA Online stuff.

Rockstars fix... For gold bars you can stash your money in a safe at your campsite that doesn't always spawn as intended.

ive already seen some modders at the butcher in valentine dropping 3 star cougars for people to sell and dead bodies with ~$2 to loot. I guess thats this games equivalent to money drops

^^ Yeah, sounds like the ~$2 body loot is the RDO equivalent to the current GTA Online $2,500 money bags.

Already quite a few "mod" menu videos on YouTube... will be mayhem pretty soon. R* will be forced to do something soon, or free gold bars will crop up next on the menus.

I experienced a hacker on New Year’s Eve, trying to interfere with a rescue the buyer mission, he kept trying spawn close to me whilst I was travelling to the buyer, but couldn’t for the life of him get a shot on me to end my life. I managed to complete the mission, whilst he kept trying to spawn next me to take me out, but he just wasn’t smart enough to know that I was also in defensive mode so couldn’t properly lock on to me, I finished the mission and then reported his ass. It just annoyed me seeing his damn player marker spawning all over the place on the mini map as if he was having a seizure!

It’s not encouraging at all, it’s still a major problem.  It’s like having a bad tire on your car and saying “but it’s just a slow leak”.  It needs to be repaired or replaced,  and guess what R* most wont wait for the repairs and just replace this game with something else.

BTW, unless I missed it(?), would be nice to have a proper RDO PC thread to discuss all the issues related to "modding", unique PC bugs, optimal gfx settings, etc.

Oh cant wait for that to happened! Sadly enough the little guy is going to be hit the hardest before R* gets their thumbs out of their a*ses!

Well, the only "upside" is that (if it doesn't get any worse in the near future), you should have time to quickly exit the game before losing too much.

But realistically, it likely will get worse when the "mod" menu creators figure out how to drain your money faster, and in amounts bigger than $1.

It will definitely get worse, not just the hackers/mod menus but all the other problems also.  The solutions are there it’s just up to R* to get off the high horse and use them.  Band-aids on bullet wounds won’t work and that’s all we’ve got since day 1.

i think it might be dependant on what camp you had set up. If you had a large camp you would have to pay that fee looped and looped which will be a huge issue,.what if you were selling a trader for $400 and halfway through a modder starts applying these cheats on you?
