Fingerprint Scanner / Keypad Cracker

I think most would agree that the fingerprint scanner is the easiest to hack.  Only a few combinations anyway, and helped more so with the below image:

But the keypad cracker I struggle with.  I don't know what it is, but it's like my brain get's scrambled when I try to memorise the last flashing images.  I've tried a few things like taking a photo of the screen (my camera always seems to f*ck me over every time I attempt this), and use a calculator or a voice-to-text app on my phone, but I'm just never quick enough.  I try and put the dots to a number grid, as in 1-5 going down for each column, and then give each dot the number where it sits, but I can never get it perfect.

Any tips, other than practice, that you all have?  Or any techniques?  I would like something better than the photo / video strategy, because if for whatever reason your camera lets you down, you're completely screwed.

I don't have much issue with the keypad cracker but it still takes too much time IMO.

If you get a level 2 security pass you never have to do this hack anyway.

The only time for me that it made sense to hack a keypad was when I did the Maintenance crew disguise and a red door blocked the only sensible path to the stairs. What doors are red or blue can change between playthoughs.

Yeah, I will always get the Level 2 pass.  But I mainly wanted to improve my skills in case I join a random and they didn't do this prep.  Wanna make myself as useful as possible.

I downloaded an app on my real-world phone (lol) called GonnyCam.  (Android app).  Worked out well during practice hacks!  The app can take a burst of 10 photos, so I can always capture a shot of the correct keypad code.  So I may have this sorted.

If I played with a random who didn't get the security pass, I'd honestly suggest to help them get one. Even when done correctly you spend about a minute on each door, and with a few restarts the hacking can easily take longer than doing the prep.

NULL AND VOID

Pencil and paper? Draw 5 vertical lines and then quickly jot down what you saw. You're probably just messing up on the 4th or 5th dot?

Yeah pretty much.  Last two always screws me over.  I did think about the pencil paper thing.  I need one of those Etch A Sketch things with a magnetic pen lol.

I always do the prep to avoid the dot hack.

Even when training the hack on my basement I actually don't know what I'm supposed to do on the dot hack game.

The fingerprint one is easy, yes, and I actually memorised it by doing those heists a bunch of times already.

My brain might work a little differently then yours. but I have a note pad open on my comp to quickly type the numbers.

Usually for me i Get the 4th one wrong. but I noticed I'm off by a block so say i guessed dot 3 and its 4. I then also have to adjust the 5th line down one slot.

Its not full proof but it works for me while practicing

You have to enter the last pattern that flashes twice. I just remember the pattern visually but my memory is pretty good in this way. Still, I would always do the security pass prep, because even a successful hack takes about 1 minute and once you've done a certain number of them it'd be worth it to just pay the 70k for the security passes prep. (E.g. 2 Terrorbyte client jobs take 6 minutes and pay $60k, so doing more than 7 hacks in a heist is pretty much a waste of time.)

Yeah i get my phone ready and take a picture of the dots if I dont do this I can only remember the 1st 3 , however since getting the level 2 security pass once I now count it as mandatory prep work

I already can do the fingerprint hack without even looking at the fingerprint xD

I just look trough the 8 pieces to find the 'pointy bit' (piece similar to this: ^ usually at bottom of fingerprint) then once i've found that i instantly know what other 3 tiles to click lol, have played the heist maybe 20 times at most, pretty quick to get flawless at hacking imho. The dots one is insane tho, i've tried snapping a pic with my phone like people have been mentioning here and ingame but my camera is too slow lol, only way i've managed to get past the dots the one time i got them was record a video with my phone lol. Honestly R* prolly anticipated on this, but its weird how the dots one is hardly used even in 'hard' variants of the heist, instead it just randomly appears sometimes to screw with your plans?

Its a known fact that an average person can really only remember 4 bits of short term knowledge at a time, which is why we can all get pretty good at the fingerprint one quickly (just remember the set of 4 blocks, and after a while u know all 4 sets of 4 blocks by hearth) but the dots one is 6 dots, and each has 5 possible locations (where as the fingerprint one uses a piece or doesnt, its just on/off, for the dots its 5 different states for each dot) so yea, long story short, the dots is clearly intended to be the harder version of the hacking, but then its weird how its just randomly used, not at all related to the difficulty you play on?

Anyway knowing the above thing about short term memory, heres what i've been thinking about doing next time i get a dots hack (like mentioned i've only seen em once so far) what if i just turn it all into numbers and remember those numbers for a short while? count from top to bottom, go from left to right, and combine numbers, look at the below (random screengrab from a youtube video from that professional kid)
y3Kmf12.png

Instead of trying to remember the pattern, or the angle between the dots, it would make much more sense to convert this to numbers, in the example above, going from left to right, where the top circle is number one and the bottom circle is number five, the code is: 325434, this number can be too much to remember already (especially with how most of us are adults and we drink etc during gaming hehe) so just use what we know from the above, cut it up into parts, for example you could remember 325 & 434, or 32, 54 & 34, both much easier to remember then the whole number.

So yea, to summarize, the dots one is clearly meant to be the harder hack, but imo they dont seem to have implemented it correctly (instead of beeing standard for 'hard' versions it just rarely appears on any version) and i think the above might be the trick to 'git gud' at these, @White Shark is definitely on the right path with putting the dots on a number grid, but we shouldn't try remember the 6 numbers as one thing, instead convert it to pieces of 2-3 numbers to make it easier to remember the code.

Yeah mate, my brain lets me down on the dots every time haha. Even with my number grid method I screw up.

I also tried a speech to text app on my phone, but found that unreliable as it couldn't keep up with my words! Arrgh.

However I've had best results with a camera app called GonnyCam. It's an android phone app. It takes pics very fast and has a feature to take 10 frames in an instant, so I never miss the correct shot of the dots. Plus, it's quick to pull the photos up in order to refer to them.

Try that app if you have an android phone!

The way I do the dots hack is to take a screenshot (on PC) and paste it into Paint.  Then I can just alt-tab back and forth until I finish the hack.

I play on xbox and I just prepare my phone to take a picture as the hacking minigame is loading up. I tried the numbering the dots and tracing a pattern with the dots and they just don't beat taking a picture.

That may seem dumb but one time it happened that I joined someone with no keycards at all we failed a lot but I got a stupid idea of grabbing one of my whiteboard markers and marking the dots on my screen it may seem a silly idea but it definitely helped me since these markers are so easy to wipe
