Is GTA Online Still Fun?

It was fun at the start, then they turned it into a grind-fest to sell shart cards.

What I used to like doing was pulling different cars into LSC and just experimenting with different customisation options. I don't grind hard enough to afford doing that anymore.

Still fun. With crew and friends. And with randoms. And alone/solo.

On PC this game can be a sh*tshow when cheaters crash the party and change weather, teleport you, blow up the lobby, spawn money or put props on your character. Still sad but true.

Yet I carry on and keep calm. Just swap lobby or enable firewall port blocking to enjoy the silence.

The new Casino Heist brought a lot of old players back. Winter sale on Steam brought a ton of new players. No lobby is the same. And the current drip feed is enough to keep me hanging on. RC Tank is a dirty little toy.

Still fun. 🍾

Any game is as fun as you make it. Will I ever be as balls-deep in it as I was when DDH came out? Or Gunrunning? Nope. But do I have a blast just goofing off with friends and clearing sessions if/when somebody starts shxt? You bet.

Despite the phrase "f*ck off R* having become a common part of my vocabulary in the last 6 years (particularly post Gunrunning), I still keep logging on almost daily...so I guess I must still get something from it. Maybe I have masochistic tendencies. I dunno.

I do feel ready for a reset and the next chapter of GTA(O), though.

I have mixed feelings about GTA online for so many reasons (work and age being two of them), but really appreciate a couple of things that Rockstar have done through the latest update.

Note, that If you don't have a regular group of friends to play with, GTA online can be a pretty lonely and harsh place to spend your free time, forcing you into lobbies with randoms or running the gauntlet in freemode, and this is my point:

  • The removal of passive mode on armored vehicles, especially the Oppressor Mk II, and the various cool downs on how quickly you can go into passive mode after being aggressive, how often you can call the Oppressor Mk II (only once every five minutes) and how often you can use the easy way out (EWO [once every five minutes]). This has made a difference to the amount of people who perpetually harass other players, especially those in packs that bully weaker/less interested players. I have noticed more jets around town as a result, which isn't great, but they are less intrusive and intense in the city.
  • The amount of new things to do in freemode, which means a certain percentage of players are regularly and openly going after mission objectives such as the new heist prep missions, including conventional players picking up cargo or doing freemode challenges, getting into skirmishes in business battles, etc. In fact, there are so many targeted things to do, it takes away the tedium and boredom that ultimately leads to hassling other players which, in turn, leads to more constructive pockets of game play.

Don't get me wrong; I came out of the modshop and immediately died from a proximity mine, which is a major and fun part of GTA online, but I'm still thankful to Rockstar for their thoughts and efforts in trying to make freemode a more balanced placed to play.

Occasionally I come on for new cars or when a new DLC drops (recent one was quite fun actually).

But yeah. My joy of playing this started to burn out sadly. Especially since I'm so f*cking tired of dealing with the riggedness and with the retards in this game.

Maybe I'll need to take a break.

It can have it's moments.  Though it normally devolves into some wanker pulling out an Oppressor strafing you....you kill him...then he/she goes full tryhard mode...just because you were in their general area....or not.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on 2015. That was a really fun year. We finally got heists, two great updates afterwards (Ill Gotten Gains 1 & 2), awesome cars, etc.

Cockstar still refuses to fix the OP vehicles decently and instead trying to add more. Pretty stupid a toy tank can magically outlast a real tank. o_0.  Cockstar also still refuses to stop giving admin rights to the cheat program still being used. since that would required fixing their messed up codes.

You can still create solo public sessions, but that does take away the fun playing with others. But there is no choice if you want to avoid the cheaters the diehards on their flying dildos.

I still enjoy the game, mostly just expending my car collections and playing heists or whatever is on double, but the people i used to play with either burnt out or play other games, rarely ever hops in when i ask them, so the game quickly becomes dull after awhile and turns into a car cruising game or mayhem. I enjoy solo plays too but been there for too long and already grinded out everything i ever wanted in the game, so ye the fun mostly exists if i have someone to play with nowadays.

If Dumbstar stopped caring so much about their precious fish cards, then maybe they would be inclined to improve the state of this abysmal game.

I have a GTAO crew I started up with two of my friends and that pretty much is what keeps me playing. I do not have fun on here alone like I did when I first started playing. We have crew meets though once a week and enjoy different aspects the game has to offer and that for me is a lot of fun.

Depends what you find enjoyable.

For me, I seek out tryhards and K/D warriors.

It can be a good and satisfying challenge.

Watching them go crazy and receiving salty messages from them never fails to amuse me.

Other times, I just like riding around on my BMX doing stunts, sticky bombing with my Nightshark off radar or EMP'ing players with my RC.

Mainly, as long as there is some kind of test in this game, regardless of what it is, I'm into it.

There’s too much to do. I can’t remember who said it, but it sucks that you can’t develop in one or two ways. For example you could be a biker and a gunrunner. Those are two roles that fit together. Where GTAO fails is when you have to be a Millionaire/Biker/CEO/Gunrunner/Nightclub Owner/Arcade Owner/Help for Lester etc.

It gets watered down a lot and frankly it deserves better.

well to the post above..,.if you look at it in the way of how it was a last gen game that w asnt expected to have a long life..,

yet did so.., and so they where expected to provide..,

and thus experimented some major fails and some respectable wins..,

while it does not stop them from actually doing something..,

they are learning.., and are learning alot from V/O, as well as what the community wants like RDR2/O in terms of groundedness and how their fans want content closer to DC&R.., and CHeist..,

while it won't help us now..,

R* better start getting their head into gear for the next installment..,

and beat their publisher.., in any way if needs be more than one..,

if they are[probably, most likely] a reason why they don't dare do much else..,

it's really starting to, and is past the time of peer to peer..,

[or at least should have a optional mode.., to choose from..,]

as for me it changes..,

I have had fun with a few people I have recently met..,

so it has its ups and downs..,

Is it fun? Sure, it can be, depending on what your idea of "fun" is. The game is broke AF though, with so many bugs that have been there since day dot, that Rockstar refuses to fix. MkII griefers take the good out of it as well, but if you're willing to look past the negatives, you can definitely still have fun with GTA:O, be it solo, or with others.

It's better then ever IMHO. New heists can be all done in private lobbies, and are fun / money enough. You are not forced to suffer OP2s.

I only join Public when I actually want little rampage.

Hell yes it is. To this day, there's still so much freedom in this game, and nothing compares. Each update keeps making the game better and better.

If you're rich(either glitching or some kind modder give you money) in the game, kinda. You can buy whatever you want without grinding and go directly to the fun part. However lately i am fed up with connectivity issues and i wish they officialy added some online content to a single player.

Yeah. Its what you make of it. I play solo and run a bunker and find a free session when I want to sell product. I look at newswire every week and see what is double RP/$ so I don't get bored doing the same thing. My main car is a Primo which I love and going to make some more money so I can buy some new arcade machines. Take it easy and have some fun.
